Now... this is a bit more Halo.
MX-3 Grapple/Rapple Gun
Assigned to Spartans and ODST's performing special assignments the MX-3 is used to access areas and engage enemies where they least expect it. Physically the device resembles an overlarge pistol with an extendable stock and can sometimes be mistaken for a single shot grenade launcher at first glance.
The gun fires an advanced alloy piton with extreme velocity, trailing a cord created using carbon nano-tubes. Once imbedded in rock or metal, three prongs drill backwards, mooring the piton to sufficiently support the weight of a half ton Spartan. Once imbedded the person using the piton can wind in the cord, ascending, by pressing the "in the right thumbstick". He can unreel, lowering himself, by pressing the "Left thumbstick". While suspended in the air he can look freely by using the right thumbstick as normal and can shift his weight, allowing him to swing with the left thumbstick. Other options include jumping off of a surface for faster downwards movement and greater swinging arc and cutting the cord by pressing the "Y button" once.
Unfortunately, using the MX-3 counts as a single handed weapon. Thus, only one other single handed weapon can be used at the same time as the MX-3. (For two reasons, one... holding a two handed weapon is kind of silly, and two- we need the Y button to cut the cord)
Another use for the Grappling gun might be to snatch far away weapons out from under the nose of your enemies and snag them for yourself.
This would be an amazing OPTIONAL weapon allowing an entirely new dimension to multiplay. It is also the Sniper's dream, allowing him to reach sniper's perches in the most inobvious of places.
