What is the proof that the Forerunners are extinct? Could they return in Halo 2?

I read in a discussion a long time ago that someone read somewhere that there's a possibility the Forerunner were early humans. I don't know though, but it's interesting.

Believe me, if the forunners did come in Halo 2 Or 3 it will more be more like them being big and "GRRR" and against us. Bungie likes to put us in impossible situations in the halo game. I dont think they will stop in H2

im not sure what Klur meant by what he said, but I think I agree with u ;)

I too have thought about "what if the forerunners return" and start cleaning house, and humanity must join forces with the Coveys for survival. It would be a major twist, and we already have seen some bonding before in extreme cases - when the Sarge hugs that Covey as the (edit- Pillar of Autum - i am retarted) is exploding

That wasn't the Truth and Reconciliation blowing up anyway......It was the Pillar of Autumn. And second of all, I respect your opinions and everything but, 343 Guilty Spark was set by the forerunners to guard the flood and stop them from getting out, that was why he was trying to blow get ahold of that chip and destroy all the floods food(humans and covenant). Now if the forerunners were alive wouldn't 343 know about it???

dude I've heard too that the humans could actually be the forerunners. I'm not sure though if thats true because why is everything on the halo so big? Whatever the forerunners are they got to be big. I do like the idea that they come back and clean house and the humans and covie have to join up. That would be a crazy plot twist though I doubt it will actually happen.

Despite all this talk i sure hope we find some details out about the forerunners. Remember Cortanna has all that info stored in her from the halo. they never elaborated on any of it in the game or the books (didn't read the flood book, was it in there?) Whatever there is to know about the forerunners she must know it.

*Possible spoilers*

The last thing i heard about the Forunners is that they were human. Not just a different races of humans from a different planet but the same ones from earth, the ones fighting the covenant. The story goes that in the future humans (forunner) sent these Halo ring back in time to share information with their previous selfs and help them fight the covenant which suggests that MC will find something on another ring which will lead him to destroy the covenant

Oh that's nice guys, that's what was going to happen in Halo2, but now that you've guessed it it's not going to be as much of a surprise. Bungie's going to see that and decide to change the new plot twist to something no-one has guessed and Halo 2 will be delayed till next year to redo the story. I hope you're happy.

That Elite grabbed Sarge's butt... Kinda makes you wonder.

the forerunners were not human. They created the halo technology. and every other super advanced one as well. The prophets copied the technology and used it. The covenant are imitative not innovative but the humans are innovative. The forerunners probably are exinct because the halo technology is thousands of years old. And no other signs of newer technology has been acknowledged so doubtful if they will be part of halo2 or any halo game.

In a trailer for Halo 2 one of the dudes talks about Forrunner structures on a gas giant or something, and shows a brief clip of Jackals around a little gas thingy.

*sigh* im bored its 1:03 here and no ones posting on the forums.

I also have no clue where u guys got the humans sent the halo ring back in time but that has certainly not been in halo book. I think that idea was started as a rumor. I don't think that is anywhere near the truth. Because if they were human then why was their technology used to create the covenant. Think about it.

Dude, all the halo rings were made by the forerunners. Do u think the covenant would be so advanced if it weren't for the forerunners. The covenant wouldn't exist because they aren't as complex as humans.

So that gives the covenant good reason to worship the Forerunners like gods, because they couldn't exist without them. But still the idea of Forerunners comming back and laying down the law would be the coolest thing. I could picture MC kickin' some covey butt, then he looks to his left and goes.."Oh -blam!-" And the bad ass Forerunner comes up and starts putting the muscle on everyone.

the forerunners don't seem to be coming back. I think they serve as a plot prop sorta like the prophets because ur not gonna see a prophet goin toe to toe with marines. I think they just serve in the books and the game/games to give u a history lesson,

that whole humans being the forerunners and sending the rings back in time is the dumbest thing I have ever heard (no offense) why would the humans send multiple Halo rings back in time that were designed to kill there past selves and any other form of life to feed the enemy. I don't think the forerunners are extinct I just think they went to another galaxy .... far far away ... Star Wars episode 3 attack of the Forerunner. seriously I think they just left
