I think that the theory of sending the halo's in the past is quite contingent with the information from the books and game.

I think the fact that the humans/the chief can operate covenant technology (which was founded from the forerunners) and that the chief 'feels' that he has seen the symbols or instinctively recognises them is tantamount to the theory.

+ what about the covenant searching for the forerunner artifacts on reach and sigma octanis IV in the books? it seems pretty obvious that ONI knows something of these artifacts but not their exact purpose.

ALSO.....343 guilty spark comments on the master chief's "battle skin" on the Library level, and tells him that an upgrade would be desireable, or to that effect.

Now, why would guilty spark know that there is a higher and more powerful battle suit if the one that the Master chief had at the time was the most advanced peice of technology at its time???

BECAUSE IN HALO 2 YOU GET BETTER ARMOUR - so therefore in the not too distant future the chief must get much more effective armour, cortana works out how the covenant use slipspace so efficiently and proposes that as a last ditch effort to save the human race that they send the halo's or remaining artifacts or coordinates back in time to their past selves.

If its not true, its still quite a plausible theory. it would explain why the chief instinctively knows what buttons to press on the forerunner and covenant vehicles and devices

thanks for listening - and thanks for colbat who proposed the idea.

yah they probably could send Halo rings back in time cuz the crystal on Reach had"curious time and space bending capabilities".if the person who originally proposed this theory said this already,im sorry for repeating it

look at how many good theories eveyone comes up with.it goes to show you how deep the Halo universe is

Hey no matter how misguided I am, I was just throwing my two cents in. BUt in truth, how will we determine what misguided is? In truth none of us have any hard facts about the subject, besides what is vaguely mentioned in the books and game

yah i meant that some of the theories go way out there and start to get illogical.u do have a point though

The time issue is a really bad an over used idea. Sure the object had time and space warping abilities, but it would be used by the covies to move through slip space faster and not backwards in time. Traveling backwards in time is a cop out. Bungie wouldn't do that. Forerunners logically can't be human, but most possibly a relative of humans. The ring is older than -blam!- Sapiens themselves. Considering that 343 Guilty Spark has maintained the ring for 101 thousand years of Thresholds orbit, which is most likely much longer than an Earth orbit, then it outlasts humans since they've existed for only 60 thousand Earth years. If humans built the ring in the future they would have known that the covies already existed and would have posed a threat to the ring in the first place by sending it back in time.
I know everybody wants the forerunner to be human, but it's just not possible and it wouldn't be logical to send a huge device back in time. It wouldn't help at all and it would only make a galaxy "quite devout of life". We don't know and we won't know until Bungie tells us.

but how could a race as supreme as the forrunners be dsestroyed, who killed them the covenant i dont thinks so the forrunners CREATED the planet halo, the flood didnt kill them either becasue they found out how to kill the flood, Aaaahemm 343 giulty spark.

Anyway look at it this way if there is going to be much more to the halo 2 plot than saving the human race, and the fact that there will be more halo's, then the forunners are with no doubt going to be there in the plot somewhere. I dont understand how the forrunners could die, which is what you said, but i respecrt your opionion, i just wanted to ask.

they are more advanced than the covies.?????????????????

I totally agree with you. I do not believe the Forerunner are out of the picture. I would very much assume that they just do not occupy the Milky Way Galaxy. I bet after the first problem with those installations they just skipped town and live everywhere else. I also bet they had some type of civil war or something that caused massive mayhem and during that period the flood escaped so everybody in there died. Now that's a logical SPECULATION.

^^^^^^ this is to Lordvulcan. of course theyre more advanced than the covies.the covies are imitative, not innovative, and in Halo:the flood, when one of the Elites was comparing his own armor to the MJOLNIR armor, the prophet says that it came satraight from the forerunners.if it werent for the forerunners, the covies wouldnt have all their "brilliant"technology.and do u think the covies can create an entire world?a construct of Halo's magnitude???not even with the forerunners technology, they cant cuz they really dont know the extent of it,as evidenced by Cortana and her Slipspace calculations.theyre just not smart enough.theyre technologically superior,no point in denying it,but the humans are smarter

Exactly who are you talking to Lord Vvulcan? Your not exactly making it clear. An before, if you were talking to me. Me and some of my friends are loser and we sit around and talk about stuff like this. I couple of days ago someone posted a link and I went there to read about the Forerruners, to my surprise, someone else had a theroy that was close to ours. So I filled in the blanks in the two stories and went with it.

It says in that XO3 video, that we'll be traveling to ancient forerunner facilties....so maybe we'll run into them. But then again, the word ancient kind of hints that the Forerunner may be long gone. This discussion is kind of pointless just because of the sheer lack of solid information to base theories on. But it's still fun I guess.

Yeah, the covies seem to have a monopoly on formerly forerunner property. I kinda wish we could have a look at the facility on Reach. Though it was specialized and seemed to have been placed on location without any other facilities like Halo was a facility with many facilities within. Those guys vacated, and they had a good reason to.

BUT!
They expected the milky way to get wiped out. Otherwise they wouldn't have put in enough rings to kill all sentient life. For all we know, they could be more evolved or devolved. The Prophets are imitative and used the forerunner technology to advance when evolving on a Forerunner colony or homeworld. So this only leads me to believe that they must exist by Heinbergs Law. We must assume that the forerunners are alive until we see them dead.

Nah, you can only use avatars that are on the site. Bungie won't allow custom ones because they're worried about the possibilty of vulgar content. However, they're in the process of creating a contest to see who can make the best avatars. Should be cool. Also, you can send any ideas you have to them at any time and they sift through them and can add some to the list.

thanks Nedus. I went to the HBO site and reread all the level transcripts. A lot of people really need to do it too because they really misquote halo 1 a lot in this thread.
