ok ill keep it going...
-hold up a bit, u guys r getting way to complicated. i think the forerunners are just an ancient race that has no connection to covie or human and they built these halo rings to house different psycho aliens (like on another halo ring there might be another kind of alien species that can do the same damage and wipe out the universe). so they built these to keep everyone else in the universe safe. and the covies happen to worship the forerunners like gods becasue they have all this advanced technology. or maybe the forerunners aren't even extinct, maybe they're just watching the covies and humans blow each other up, and/or maybe (this is a pretty cool thought) the covies are just a race that the forerunners failed to house and put on a ring so the covies broke out of the forerunner's grasp and became very advanced, and made a good society, (wait thats a really good idea), thats also maybe how they got the advanced technology so quickly.

now thats my idea!!!

good idea but there's gotta be a connection between the humans and forrunners like how guilty spark says something about coming again

no, no Bungie will DEFINATELY surprise us with SOME kind of relationship... i mean, yeah some of this is getting way complicated but if you just listen to some of the stuff that Cortana and 343GS say, theres definately some relationship... and the fact that Bungie isnt going to make one big "cosmic coincidence"... you know? there has to be a relationship just to keep that particular wing of the story open. you know?

I believe that they could be related to either humans or elites, or someone of a humanoid size because some of the doors are HUGE but most of the doors in the inner annals of Instalation 04 are perfect size for humans/elites... people around 6 - 9 feet tall you know?
im personally leaning toward humans for lots of reasons...

I don't think so me an me pal think that the humans are actually the forerunners, just by the way that sparky takes to Master Chief.

Methinks that the Forerunners will be shown to have created both the Humans and the Covenant, by pushing/starting their evolutions in the Forerunners' image. Kinda like the 'Xel Naga do to the Protoss in Starcraft, if anyone remembers that game. But the Forerunner's don't directly interfer with any of the species that have helped, and they in fact leave -blam!- around for them to find and play with ( the blue gravity crystal from the last halo book, etc.). However, if any of the new species get too upity, the Forerunners have stuff to take them out, namely, HALO.

Maybe the forerunners are or were some kind of supreme race that that is trying for universal domination so they built these halos to trap other life forms and when any other life forms find the halos they would be curious and investigate. So when they get there they encounter the other life forms (who are aparently hostile) and start fighting each other and in the end just help the forerunners towards their goal of universal domination.

Maybe the forerunners are just a super intelligent life form who created these halos as a prison for whatever planet they are orbiting.

Anobody have any thoughts?

well I don't think the forerunner are out to conquer the universe, but if that was their intent then they'd have to be extinct (with Halo-tech what would stop them from enslaving everybody or whatever they want?) I think the forerunner are your run of the mill sci-fi archtype of advanced culture. Just like the Chozo from Metroid Xel'Naga from Starcraft they have so much technology they have nothing else left to do, so they dabble with genomes to keep themselves amused. I imagine we'll find out soon enough though.

ok... i dun think the forerunners are like "all the galaxy belongs to us" or else they'll already hav it dunt ya think? they developed the blasted rings, so maybe they somehow are able to protect themsleves from it? think of it, our nukes and then the lead shelters? so they could just blast everyone and be left the great king of the universe lol

Ok here's my throw at the theory. Since 343 Guilty Spark said that the Halo ring that MC was on in the first game was construct 04 that means that there are 3 other Halo rings BUT there only can be 2 left since 343 also says that they have done "it" before (i.e. setting of a Halo ring). So let's the that first ring was one that destroyed most of the Forerunners. How bout enough that they weren't able to create their formy techonology again and start from scratch. Thus they became HUMANS!!! But what about the flood? Well I think that the Forerunners created the Covenants. I haven't come up with a theory as to why. The Forerunners decided to give the Covies their techonology, because after all they are their creation so what does it matter if they are sharing the techonology. But here's another part where I can't think of a reason to the this plot. For some reason or another the Forerunners see the Covenant as dangerous. So they create the Flood without telling them. They also create the Halo rings. The Halo rings are not only forces of destruction but also to contain the Flood or destroy them. They warn the Prophets of these but lets say they don't tell the mass of covies this fearing that they might do something catastrophic if they were to find out. So let's say one of the covenants discover a Halo ring near the Forerunner's home. This covenant get's a forerunner from the inside to set off the Halo ring. That's why Guilty Spark said that thing about setting it off once before. The Halo ring sets off and most of the Forerunners are destroyed, leaving not enough people to resurrect their former glory forcing the Forerunners to start from scratch. Now the regular covenenat mass found a Halo ring but they didn't know about it since the Prophets didn't tell them. The flood are released yatayatayata, and Guilty Spark still survives. Perhaps he can inform the Covenant of the remaining Halo rings leading the to destruction of the Forerunners once again.

This may be completely far fetched and may not happen but I still am proud of my theororizingnization.

I don't have much to say because I've already posted my longwinded theory. But there has to be a connection between covies and forerunners. Did it say in one of the books that the prophets developed on a Forerunner world? I don't know because I haven't read the last two books, so Im at a loss for info...

they may or they may not... bungie loves doing these mystery races... check out Marathon... the link b/w covie and forerunners and covie bastads is that the covie found and salvaged forerunner tech... thats y they have pasma pistols that fire like those blasted big blue beams in "halo" and how similar their architecture is (u sure they're similar?) ummm that maybe y covies lov the forerunners so much... heh who wouldnt love ppl who drop their hi tech stuff all over the place... and we chould love them too! look at what cortana can do with forerunner plasma tech ([i] First Strike[i]) she can turn a little plasma turret into a mini Death Star for god's sake....and b/w plasma is forunner tech, not covie tech... the covies just copied, it was cortana who improved it...

p/s woot third posts! i'm crazy in the fact i'm counting...:P

I bet they found some ancient Forrerunner writings and believe now that they are the God's and they are the ones to protect their intrests or something ... That may be why they are on a march across the galaxy destroying all human life!

If you were to give me something err... lots of things I would like you but I wouldnt go across the galaxy destroying everything in sight because of it. Religion is something that would make a race or a group of races kill thousands of people for. Eternal rewards are a whole lot better than silly limited time earthly crap ...

ngeh ngeh
bungie did say sumthing bout we being able to play on a halo ring again...though i dunno whether he means the debris (there ARE some pretty huge chunks of 04 left...)
so, i think gs will make an appearance there and giggle us to death again... not on earth.. cos if he arrives on earth we'll take our hard lil diamond knives and cut that bloody thing to pieces, cos he's just plain annoying lol.... well yeah i agree with u on the loophole in my explanation.... maybe, dun come looking for me mr bush, the prophets just needed something to distract the rest of the species from internal conflict, and cooked up this crap about us being the devil? pls giv comments, i kind of jneed the practice lol

Well this has been a pretty big discusion on HBO (Halo.Bungie.Org) for some time now in the rampent speculation area of the site and other places. It's been a while since I checked that out. But I said something there about how 343GS knew what kind of "creature" the Chief was and all, and seemed like he wasn't at all suprised by his species. Also, if you shoot him he'll say things like "stop being human". I don't remember what all else I said but I have a feeling that Human beings are Forerunner somehow, or are related to them. That Earth was somehow protected from the "Halo effect" and that it's people made themselves into a more primative society in order to prevent any incident with the flood from ever happening again, the old Sci Fi "we went primative because technology screwed us the last time" rutine. But that over time the reasons were forgoten about ect. Because look at the life on Halo, it looks one hell of a lot like earth. Even the little insects look and sound like Earth ones. But it still makes me wonder how long it's been since this would have happened. It would have to have been quite some time in order for other sentient species to evolve because all life in the galexy was wiped out the first time the Halos were acctivated right? The same could be said about the Human race if they indeed aren't the forrunner or any sort of offcute. There is always the posibility that the forruner were wiped out but the Halo effect, but I find this unlikely because if the Flood survived (presumably because the Halo effect doesn't acctually effect the ringworlds themselves or the ringworlds are protected from them in certain areas) then certainly the Forerunner would have survived as well right? Hmmm...

ok here is what i have been thinking
if you go back to the roots of halo..MYST type stuff, they had to of already though of this stuff.
but what if the Forrunners are not necascraly human or covenant...maybe they might be spirt...although i have no evidence to back it up...it just might be, thanks that was my first post too by the way.

Well if you think about it, the forerunners could be on some distant remote planet in the galaxy somewhere and they use these halo's as weapons. When they were being overran by the opposition they would deploy the flood and when they didn't need it, contain it in halo. I don't think they are extinct. Reason is that with such technology and with so many halos believed to be in existance and with no real proof of extinction, why would they be? Will they be in H2? I doubt it. Ask yourself this though. If you had to know knowing that it could very well be the end of the Halo series, would you want to? I mean what else can they write about. Obviously the covenant lose in H2 (if you beat the game of course) So writing that they come back to Earth in H3 would be retarded. Their best best is to make somthing about the forerunners. Perhaps they feel threatened by humans and deploy the flood or maybe we find their planet and try to find peace where peace isn't wanted. I don't know... Lets just take it one Halo game at a time.

u know... wat if john/us doesnt save the day.... wat it the fleet decides to evacuate and hole up at another planet, and destroy earth with one of those NOVA nukes (first strike) and wreck the covie fleet with it? hmmm just wondering... that would be sad.. but all the more good if ur thinking along the lines of Halo 3 (the Return of the Spartans?) lol
