What's their purpose in the game? Why is the Monitor the only sentient life left on Halo(he barely is , anyway)? Are forerunners like humans? It's possible, because at first, the monitor thinks you're a forerunner. maybe the forerunners created a virus which mutated them into the flood. Maybe on another Halo structure, the forerunners still exsist!
Maybe they do appear in the second Halo structure in Halo 2!

What is the proof that the Forerunners are extinct? Could they return in Halo 2?

Well in the book sargent jonson comes back and says that a pelcon picked him up at the last second. Also the reason he survived the flood is because he got a weird desize from plasma gernads where his nerves are all messed up so the flood couldn't controol his body.

Or mabie they were attacked by the flood so in desprate attempts they created Halo to contain the flood and if any flood escaped Halo would wipe out all life in the galxey to starve the flood.

After reading almost all of the books that Jason Jones said influenced the creation of Halo, I believe that the Forerunner are in fact extinct. Read Starhammer, by Christopher Rowley. That seems to have been the most influential book on Halo's development.

Halo 2 will most likely go something like this:

The Forerunner are either extinct or are hidden away on some remote planet or moon, much like the S'pht K'r (sp?), we will find out a lot more about their history, which will somehow relate to Earth (which is why the Covenant don't glass it right off the bat), We will see the higher organic flood forms as opposed to the parasite warrior class, we will end up firing another Halo weapon into the midst of the Covenant's home system.

Blam.

I'm pretty sure on all the above. If you don't agree, go read Starhammer and the Vang series, the Ringworld series, and the Motie series. You'll probably agree with me then.

Now, this part is my own guesswork:

We all know 343 GS survived the destruction of Halo. He is going to do one of three things from here; contact the forerunner (if any still exist), make an alliance with some crooked power-hungry humans, or make an alliance with the Covies. No matter which way you look at it, it means the hurting for us. He'll probably try to activate one of the other installations and use its weapon.

I believe somewhere a reputable source(real specific, aren't I?) said that the Flood will return (I've done some searching, but I haven't found exactly where this was said). We're either going to encounter them on another Halo construct or somehow the Flood escaped from installation 04. Again with the hurting. And the ow.

Finally, and this last bit is definetly more guesswork, but I bet the Forerunner will resemble giant frogs. (Trust me, go read Starhammer.) Batrachian, that's the word for it.

Cheers!

~W

One thing I think should be established before anyone else shoots off more theories about the Halos or the Forrunner. Many of you don't seem to have a grasp of how the Halo rings weapon works. Not all of you, so please no reply's like "I knew how it worked! bleh bleh bleh!"

The Halo rings destroy lifeforms, and only lifeforms. There is no explosion, there is no huge shockwave that obliterated everything in its path, these are not deathstars. They are horribly effecent. The Halo Rings could best be compaired the the Neutron weapons we can build today. Set one off in a city and everything in it that breaths dies. Every plant, every house pet, every living human being is dead in a matter of minutes but it leaves the city intact. No buildings fall down nothing of value is destroyed. Now think of something like this only instead of a blast range of 25 miles it has a blast range of 25,000 light years. Thats what the Halo does.

Also, since we know that Halo has a blast range of 25,000 light years to effectivlly wipe out all life in the galaxy the Milky way would have to be dotted with them. 4 or 5 rings minimum I beleive, maybe more.

i have a theory on the forerunners and if they still exist and what happened to them etc. it's probably a little retarded and doesnt make a whole lot of sense, but i made it like a year ago, so...here it goes!

A LONG time ago, there were these guys named the forerunners. They started doing experiments, and all of the sudden they somehow made the flood. They were intrigued by them. They continued to do experiments on their home planet until one day, the flood got loose and caused a hell of a lot of damage to their planet. Once they got them contained again, they were so fascinated that they wanted to continue to do experiments, but they didn't want to risk them getting loose on their planet again. So they went out in space and started building these huge structures to house the flood, and if need be, destroy them. Obviously, if they were going to invest this much time, effort, and probably cost into experimentation of the flood, they had some kind of possible use (maybe biological warfare to the Nth degree).
So they finished their experiments and decided that the flood were too dangerous to use for anything so they locked them up and set up the GS343 and sentinels to make sure that they didn't get out.
As for what happened to the Forerunners, I think that they still exist, but just not in this galaxy. If you think about it, it's totally logical. Why would you build a structure that would ultimately kill you if you wanted to stop the flood? I think that they traveled from another galaxy to ours and experimented here. When they got done with their experiments, some of them decided that they wanted to stay in our quaint little galaxy, so they made a colony or two on some planets. Meanwhile, the covenant are running around recruiting and pillaging and they find these forerunner guy's colony. The forerunners resist joining the covenant, so the covenant blows the hell out of them. They then start to go through their history and this thing about 7 ring shaped planets that house a deadly and uncontrollable weapon keeps coming up. The covies, having the huge heads that they do, think, "Well these retarded forerunners couldn't control this weapon, but we can. We're the best that have ever been!" So the search begins for these ring structures.

If Halo was built to contain and study the Flood and to also have a Defence Mechanism which wipes out all life form so they could starve the Flood if it gets out of hand, why don't they just make a Defence Mechanism that wipes out the Flood instead of anything else? Kind of makes you think that the Forerunners really didn't want anyone on Installation 04 in the first place and 343 GS was there to make sure if anyone did get on Installation 04 then he would use one of them to activate Halo's Defence Mechanism and take them out. My theory on the Forerunners is that they are evovled from the Spartans not Humans or they are just their own race called the Forerunners.

ok I think that the 4runners r using prophets as cover that way they don't need to show there power and the hunters are an enslaved race of caned whoop@$$ and they would rebel but the 4runers/prophets have mindcontrol so if u kill all the 4runers/prophets the hunters will help u open that whoop@$$

Halo 2 is supposed to bring the covenant war to a close or at least near the end. Now if bungie was to plan a Halo 3 i could see the forerunners being the head adversary. but then again there are already 3 species at war. Throwing another race in the mix just seems a little to unimaginative.

There were 3 races, but now the Flood is gone making there 2 so putting the Forerunners into the battle for Earth would be pretty ideal.

Just to make something clear, the forunner didn't know about the covenant when they built the rings. The covenant got all of thier technology from the forunners. They were probably still seperate races then. The only way the forunners would know about them is if they willingly gave their technology to the covenant.I doubt this because guilty spark doesn't seem to like them.Sorry if this has already been posted.

I take it that u guys have read all 3 books, just addin to the topic about the flood returning in halo 2 it could b possible cuz if u read the 3rd book "Halo: first strike" it mentions about some marine being possibly infected with the flood who returns to earth. And another thing, does anyone know if there will b other spartans like master chief cuz in the same book it states that there were 4 spartans alive while on the journey back to earth.

I take it ur taking this from another source ...
So ya Sgt. Johnson didnt die they didnt like "his taste" ...
But he still might be infected

and ...

Yes four spartans survive + Kelly who flies off with Dr. Hasley ...

Great thread guys! (And ladies, if any,) I check it often. I will not, however release my theory until I've seen Halo2, and grasped the storyline with my own mind and eyes! Why be wrong? lol! One thing however, some-one made a comment about Banshee Baron a while back, and I must say, BB has proven his mettle in the two years I've been on the column. When the .net Passport change came, I was laxed in retrieving my old login for a bit. Banshee Baron has been an influincial member of the column, and the Underground. I wouldn't make comments about that man. He's been around, and understand, we're all just professing theories! There's no need for rudness or flaming. This is the U.S.A, at least from where I'm typing, and we have certian freedoms here that should not be taken lightly. Respect people. Even if they don't always view things the way you might!

halo 2 probably isnt gonna be the last halo, cuz the humans have to fight the covies off, then go to their planet and destroy them, inless halo 2 is really long they are gonna have to finish it in a 3rd game

I accidently put this in the wrong place. So if you see it somewhere else I don't need to know how much of a "raging -blam!-" or how "uncool" I am. I already know that. But anywho...Now there are people who understand this stuff! I love this forum, but anyway, this is what I think about the whole Forerunner thing: They were humans. Everyone knows that, but it just has to be said. They had evolved so far mentally and technologically that their mind set was completely different then ours. They were prolly extreme conservists. That's why they kept the Flood alive, even though they were so dangerous. Making up for all the extinction they may have caused developing their new tech stuff, they wanted to keep at least a sample of everything intact. They were prolly spread all over the universe and did this with not only the Flood...but with the Covenant too. How else would so many strange races have been grouped together? How would they speak the same? Act the same? Have the same ability to comprehend? They were probably kept in an installation very much like the one the Flood were in, only observing the Forerunners. The Covenant may not have been advanced, maybe only cavemen on our scale. Then something went wrong. The Flood escaped. To combat it, maybe all of the Forerunners were sent back to the containment galaxy of the Flood. Our galaxy. The installations activated. The original Reclaimer knew his duty (Why would you fail to do what you have ALREADY done Reclaimer? 343 GS). All of the Forerunners were wiped out. The Covenant escaped from their abandoned holding center and lived and developed in a different galaxy. They collected the remnants of the Forerunner society, and eventually the tales of who the Forerunner really were may have been so warped and full of honorifics that no one recognized them when they first made contact with the humans. This is my theory. And I think it works. Because the Covenant will win unless it is revealed that they have been killing their own gods all along. That's the only way I can see the war stopping peacefully. Thank you for your time and literacy. Please do not yell at me for my crazy theories, I get enough of that at home.

guilty spark says somtin like "they created this isntallation, i am glad that some of them made it off to survive." he says this during the level libary. i think this means that he was either refering to the flood as "they" or forerunners, i am thinkin it means forrunners
