AAAAhhhh that explains alot, you see i thought it was weird how the covies didn't just blast earth from space, if the humans (or ancestors) were forerunner then the covenant want earth for the religious stuff and maybe there is something they want inside earth.

The Forerunners built Halo, and created the Flood. The put the Flood on a ring with the special capability to be able to destroy all life. The Forerunners built Halo to contain the Flood so the couldn't get to the Index and set off Halo. Little did they know was that many years from then, the Covenant and Humans would land on Halo and release the Flood. By releasing the Flood they began searching for food(i.e. Humans/Covenant). They needed them because they were smarter than the Flood, and they could then control them to set of Halo's weapon.
The Covenant are probably so interested in Halo and Forerunner technology because they may think that the rings are able to kill the humans. But what the Covenant didn't release is that it would kill them and all live around them as well.

ok i left a bit out, in the book that i said earlier the aliens that the humans might be based upon have a massive war every thousand years or something, this destroys all technology and the aliens go to a lower state, then they build up again to the same technical capability, its like a cycle. But in the book some bright alien decides to build rings so that the next time war breaks out and the aliens are almost destroyed they can retrieve the tech that they lost by just going to the ring ('reclaimer') so it doesn't take them as long to get up to full tech ability. whao thats a long story

someone posted a link to the HBO site that contains a write up about the forerunners. I talks about the Sentinals and how they have those red beams of energy/laser/plasma (whatever it is)

In first strike cortana takes over the covie ship, Ascendant Justice, and later modifies the plama turrets. Now the ascendent Justice I remember was one of the most powerful covie ships in the whole covie fleet, yet cortana found its turrets working inefficently. she modifies them so that they are more efficient and more powerful. This also caused them to shoot a red beam of energy like the sentinals did.

Whats happening here? How does a human AI construct understand the forerunner technology better than the covies? (all the covie tech has been copied from the forerunners)

1. No one knows for sure if the Forerunner created the Flood, that's just a theory thrown out by someone.
2. Jason Jones stated in a magazine, that the Covenant have a long history with the Flood. So expect them to return in Halo 2.
And as for Spartan King saying the Monitor is crazy, you're probably right. He's probably grown rampant from being there for a little over 100,000 years all alone.

I've already read it all and yes I understand. It is a possibility seeing as how this is a Science Fiction game. The problem with alot of Halo fans and fans in this forum is that they're not open-minded, and Bungie tends to have broader meanings to everything. My advice to them is not to rule out any possibilities.

Let me just say that it is interesting, and there are many other theories similar to yours. There's alot of books outthere that people have read and believe that Bungie might've gotten ideas from it. Your theory is a possibility, but I'm not going to say that that is definitely it.

hey hey hey, i never said this was my theory, i was mearly trying to sum up what i have read on that issue. I do find some good arguments in this opinion but as you say it is good to be open minded and i sure hope i don't come across the right answer so its better when i finally do complete the game.

What if the forerunner created the flood a long, long time ago at the pinnicle of thier prosperity. The flood then became rampant like a lab experiment gone wrong, that could be why they look soooo ugly. At first it might have gone right but perhaps a certain group of forerunner (prophets) sabotaged the experiment. The forerunner then had a long war with them. (The prophets left just before the war). Then the remaining forerunner used their technology to contain the flood. They then held a grudge against the prophets and built all the halo's to destroy the galaxy with the prophets in it. The prophets however weren't as advanced as the forerunner but shared some of their technology that could be why their ships look similar to halo stuff. The remaining forerunner's then left the galaxy to rebuild their old empire.

As far as I've seen humans are much like the Forerunners. Bold, daring, creative, and destructive. Like us, the Forerunners created weapons of unimaginable destruction and either created or cultivated the deadliest species known in Halo - the Flood. That was their bad streak, which we have as well. They also made great architectural and intellectual works, which made up their good streak.

Humans and Forerunners have many of the same qualities and that makes me believe they are one in the same, only thousands, millions, or billions of years spaced apart - presumably thanks to the use of the Halo instillations.

(Sorry about the bad grammar, I can't type today...)

I think the Forerunners may be human as well. A lot of people assume the Forerunners are huge in size due to the scale of things on Halo. I have to disagree mainly because if you look at the majority of doors on Halo, they were all human sized. I think it would be hard for Bungie to explain that away if the Forerunners were bigger than humans.

I just don't think they can be humans......I mean I understand what yall are saying and all of it is true to a certain extent, i think. But if you read all of my posts youll see why I believe as I do.

Well in any case, who knows where they went? Maybe they just went off to visit nearby galaxies, maybe they're still in this galaxy, but are still living on the other side. Who knows?
Maybe we'll see what's become of them in Halo 2, maybe they'll make a triumphant return as friend or foe. Or Perhaps they just died in some climactic battle that we know nothing of. I guess we'll just have to wait a few more months. Hell the summer hasn't even begun yet.

All these ideas sound really good but I think im really lost. I have no idea of who the forerunners are. Who talks about them in the game? What is their importance to Halo? Also could they possibly make an apperance in Halo 2? Im just askin cause i really dont know who or what they are.

Hey everyone. To Mikey. The forerunners are the people who are believed to have built halo. Thus, the forerunners are a huge prt of the covie society, and a huge mystery in the game. Now I heard this before, but it seems that the Forerunners where masters with slip space, seeing as how they are able to put down exact locations. As said before, is it possible that they live in Slip Space?
