So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.
While I have been shot through a wall on one occasion, I have to say that Halo 3 has some of the best web code I have seen yet. Yes the melee system seem a bit odd but it keeps the server from having too much of an advantage. In the end Bungie made Halo 3 the way it is because of what they learned from Halo CE and 2. People constantly praise Halo CE for its multiplayer but soon forget that it's LAN code and not web code. Web code has to deal with so many more issues it's truly overwhelming. Latency, lag, changing IP addresses. It all must be managed so that the game can run at all; let alone smoothly.
Yes it's true the game isn't perfect but it is well balanced and runs smoothly. If not being shot through a wall on a very rare occasion meant the lost of some perform then I'll take one for the team.
On the other hand you could always put your money where your mouth is, download XNA studio, spend the next two years writing your own web code and multiplayer game, test it and debug it for about 6 months, and show Bungie up buy not complaining and doing it yourself. BUT something tells me that's not going to happen.
