I bought my friend Halo PC awhile back, and he just got around to getting it installed properly. He went straight online last night(waking me up to ask me what game to join) and I didn't have any clue what he was talking about. I asked him this morning and he said he wanted to know what room in multiplayer to get into. He tried some, but all the matches were with Rocket Launchers and a couple AR starts. Now, I've played the original Halo on the Xbox, so I lack the knowledge of PC's multiplayer, since it never had XBL to play there.

I've tried telling him Halo is an acquired skill and that he can't throw the game in and be as good as he is at Doom. He might do better if he plays through campaign, but I don't know how much that'll help him. So I was wondering if anyone could offer a few tips or tricks that will help him learn the PC version? All my knowledge and tips apply to the Xbox version, and as far as I can tell some item spawns have been changed or replaced, and there's new weapons to look out for. Any help for him?

Keep playing. It's not like you can master it in a day. If you want a game like that, tell him to go play Call of Duty 2 through 4.

that's great and all but I was kinda hoping someone who's played the PC version could give tips that'll help someone adjust. I already told him if he keeps playing he'll get better.

Is Halo 1 or 2? Sounds like 2.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

It has to be Halo 1 PC since H2X/V didn't have ARs in it.

Learn to lead. That's the number 1 skill to survival.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

At least explain leading....

Due to the crummy networking code, you have to shoot ahead of a moving target to hit it. If you hear the weird little beep noise it means you're scoring hits. If not, adjust your lead farther until you start scoring hits. I personally suck at leading but I know how it works. I lead about 2 person lengths away from a moving target, which probably isn't exact but it's close enough I can score some hits.

If you use the pistol leading is easy, adjust one cross hair in front of him.. Plasma weapons are easy too, you can actually see how leading works using those.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

The best way to learn is to beat the game on legendary, then start playing online.

In any event, teach your friend the 3 basic rules of shooting in Halo PC.

1. Aim directly onto the enemy to get red dot

2. Lead based upon ping.

3. With a very steady hand, lead and shoot.

People that think it is all about leading are wrong. I can show you perfect leading without hitting many shots. You have to get the red dot first. The funny thing is how forgiving the game is and how much magnetism there is. As long as you get the red dot and use a steady hand, you don't even need to lead that well to get hits.

Halo 1 PC: No auto aim. Small amount of bullet magnetism.
Halo 2: Loads of auto aim. Loads of rocket bending magnetism.

Don't know what you mean about getting a red crosshair first either

Halo CE forever!

One more good tip: watch fragvideos in YouTube, Halo community want's to call 'em montages though.

Actually, there is still auto-aim, I found it out because my bullets kept swerving to the left and the right like I locked on to them. It said in HMT " Auto-aim range = 25, Magnetism range = 25, ", theres only a tiny amount, you can also see it with a spartan laser in CE.

Halo PC doesn't have auto aim because it was removed for mouse and keyboard. But Halo PC certainly has bullet magnetism and VERY friendly hit prediction if you know how to work the system.

If you don't understand about the red crosshairs, then I can't help you. Play more, do more experiements.

TIP: compensate for laggggggg. if your ping is under 100 you dont have to as much, but 100 and over every 10 you should shoot about a mm infront
