I've just seen this argument many times before and it gets nowhere.
Everyone agrees that the big guy with the Health Bar and that one exploitable weakness is just a horrible idea.
That whole concept is a tired old Nintendo thing. The thing is, in the last few years we've had "bosses" without health bars. Sure we've had Metal Gear Solid and it's had that tired old boss thing but we've also had Splinter Cell. It had the same setup where a named villain comes after you personally. That big russian didn't have a health bar and if you shot him he went down like any other human being. He just had an enhanced AI and some better weapons.
In essence, those Black Ops elites in the Cafeteria of the Pillar of Autumn could be considered bosses. They certainly fit the modern formula.
Now you have the guys who have the old thinking, then the guys who have the new thinking both arguing for pages and pages on the forum and they really all just want the same thing.
