"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

While I agree its contradictory, Im glad they did it. It gives at least an ounce of accomplishement to people who actually deserve it (being here for years on end). Sure, being a noob sucks. Hell, I have an account on here from early 2004, but I had to change it due to gamertag issues. Its just a title, nothing more.

I have no idea as to what's going on with these "titles" right now.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Achronos always said there will never be member titles and BOOM! There it goes, what's worse is that it's by join dates. I can see elitism in the midst...

Really though, why take out viewable in-forum join dates due to elitism then do something like this. This is just so unnecessary.

It's quite obvious, look at everyone who has a custom title then look at their join dates. Looks to me like a pattern.

This feature is shown on another site I visit, cheathappens.com

For every one year you are a member...you get a new rank.

And there is a report post function there too...

Neat subtle update Bungie doods!

Its more likely a combination of number of posts between groups/main forums as well as seniority. It would be dumb to give you Herioc Member if you just registered for browsing.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I'm not really that bothered about it. I am however happy about the 'Report as spam' button. Finally a quick and easy way to report off-topic\spam\offensive threads.

Titles based on join dates? You have to be kidding me. Why take out join dates from in forum viewable profiles, always talk about combating elitism, then give titles like heroic member, and legendary member? That is the dumbest most selfcontradicting thing I've ever seen. I am deeply dissappointed in any system that promotes elitism, but even more so in one that promotes elitism, based on time, not any type of contribution. Its simply stupid to me to see someone who has just gotten off a ban, and yet they are supposed to be "heroic." I find this to be really stupid.

That being said, I like the report as spam option, and I hope it isnt abused, or used in a pointless manner.
Agreed.

Today, we updated Bungie.net with a few new features. First, of course, we've updated the site with all the appropriate information to support stat tracking on the new maps. We also took the opportunity to fix a few bugs and add a major feature or two. You'll notice that there is now a "report as spam" button on forum posts and (if you have a linked gamertag) file share items. No longer will you have to PM moderators about spam, just hit that button and it will flag the item as spam for later review. Please note, however, that the system is smart enough to detect abuse, and there will be consequences for you abusing it. You'll also notice that everybody in the public forums got some new forum titles - in addition to the standard Member, there are Heroic Member, Legendary Member, and Mythic Member. These titles are automatically granted to users who maintain certain criteria. We also fixed a few other odds and ends, most notably the forum avatar/info box display for non-member posts in groups and tweaked the Heatmaps so their display is much more useful than before.

didnt say join dates...

If you dont like it. leave. Dont cry. You might just get the "Whines like a Baby" role.

Perhaps you should make sure you have ALL of the information ere you go jumping off of bridges, eh? It is clearly, simply, and easily explained above. It was easy information to find. Make sure you are educated before you get your feathers all rufffled and accuse Bungie of percieved transgressions.

Now that the system is explained there is no need for to be so upset. The good guys who have the titles won't be the ones bragging about said titles.

Your circular logic is intriguing.
I do agree.
anyone that uses their Title as a way of putting down someones opinion will likely not have said title. (afterward)
we'll see how the system turns out.
Twould be nice to have some lower ranks in addition.

Tom Achronos
Bungie.net Overlord
twitter: http://twitter.com/Achronos

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Your understanding of how they work is lacking. Join dates are not what is determining the title. Your trust rating is the determining factor. And that rating can be affected by lots of different things. Getting warnings, for example.

And after having the trust ratings being calculated for more than a year without them being used for anything, I decided this was the best way to start using them for positive reinforcement. Given that a glance at who has the highest trust does give me a list of people who aren't troublemakers, I'd say the system works.

I'm frankly sick and tired of the cries of elitism everyone also makes here. We've tried removing titles, removing join dates, banning the word noob, yet you people still create divisions like this anyway, be it on skill level in the game, using various words, grammar, etc. I've come to the conclusion that part of the problem around here is that there is no real incentive for people to behave well other than "you won't get banned." And even then, some of you just create new accounts and continue being jerks on those accounts.

So, we're changing tactics, something I was originally going to do last year but had to stop work on it because of Halo 3. So, this is the first of a few ideas I have for rewarding people who do well. And as for your cries of "elitism" - well, if you see it, you have a shiny "report as spam" button to report it. If people don't report stuff, now, it is your own fault, not the moderators' lack of coverage.
