We all are startled by the recent changes, and many of us, upset. I was taken by surprise, and wasn't exactly pleased with the new idea, and I'm still not terribly keen to it.
But those matters aside, I'd like to address the "danger word", that seemingly everyone is calling on Bungie.net at this time. That word is, you guessed it: "elitism".
I get very tired of constantly hearing the word "elitism" thrown around so often whenever someone who isn't someone else gets some sort of honor (Recon armor, anyone).
So many of you claim that other people lord these honors over you. You whine about the fact that these honors are a vessel for someone to make you feel inadequate for not having those honors.
But face it. The problem isn't really that people lord these honors over you. It's that you lord it over yourself. It was Eleanor Roosevelt who said "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." Meaning, that other people truly cannot make you feel insecure. Rather, they can only bring your personal insecurities into light. How did I come to this conclusion? Because I'm the same way. Who can honestly say that they don't try to blame someone else for making them feel insecure, when the person is only forcing them to acknowledge their own insecurities? That's what I thought.
So, instead of blowing the "elitism" horn, why not take the time to consider that maybe you yourself are just insecure about something. And the sad thing is, it's something so trivial.
Chew on that for a minute.
