Subject: Spam report... A step in the right direction

We all know that the bungie community has its problems, there are many devoted well meaning fans out there, but there are also a whole lot of loosers out there. The new spam report function is a step in the right direction: one towards a community a little less driven by flame.

However, I think it can be taken a step further. Have you ever read an exceptional post (such as the "post something positve" thread made by Camoflouged Jew) and though to yourself, "man, this guy is really adding something increadible to this conversation," or to the community in general.

We can now "punish" those who spam, shouldn't we be able to "reward" those who are doing the very opposite?

Good idea, and believe me it has been discussed, many times over. I don't mean to lessen your post any, I just trust that its pros and cons are being weighed by the web team, and only time will tell. Personally I like the idea, but i also dread the spammers having forum friends + their posts. Like i said, I'm sure the pros and cons are being considered by the ones who matter.

Should I just cough really loud or what? Check member titles below their avatar. That's one (of the many) new perks good members will be able to get.

Good members are being rewarded. Still, reputation and trust takes time. A good member making some posts may be doing well, but if he's pretty new, you can't be too careful. (B.net has a small past history of some problems with over-trusting certain members)

It's equally likely that a spamer could have his buddies - people they get into fights with on the forums. I suppose we will have to see how the spam feature works out before anythign else gets added

This {omitted by snowmanaxt7} will explain everything about the new report feature.

Wow, that just has nothing at all to do with this post, way to pay attention.

I agree, thinking more on it, I like this method much more, its hidden from view, therefore less able to be manipulated.

the member status things are cool, but what other "perks" are you refering too? (this is Not now john btw... from my old gamertag)
does this mean that the account i am posting this reply with is "better" than my other?

Honestly, I could care less what title anyone has next to their name, what date they joined, and how many people have a quote from them in their sig. This title that we got is nice, would've been nice a long time ago when I had a thing called an ego on the internet, but not now. For people who live on the internet and need some kind of food so they can feel better about themselves, well they just got something, so they shouldn't be asking for much more. At least there will be a decrease in the amount of these threads, or will there?

At the rate of topics about the new title feature poping up all over the place, I think it will be a while till it settles down.
I'm not too clear on the new titles, so I'm going to keep quiet on what I think about it.

That is a good point, but I just think there should be a way for the community to say someone has done something worthy of extra note

An example of the negative behavior that is not cured by the new tools, simply treated more effectively.

And yet, nothings more effective than a good ol' fashion PM to a mod, eh Recon? :)

Well, when I get to those. But seriously, the new tool is awesome and means that my PM box will become my personal property again.

by all means, I think the new system is great, but hey... you should always keep shooting higher right?

Thats good. Your pm box must be stuffed to the limit when you get back online.

Apparently, yes. See, when you put some actual importance on an account, people are less inclined to make a bunch. (With exceptions, always..)

More perks? Achronos hasn't said, but he did say more is planned. Go read around the Community Forum threads with the gold symbol next to them and find Achronos' posts. He gives some good insight on what's going on around here.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -

But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Well, I've gotten a bit of milage out of browbeating TGP over irc. "Guys I'm watching TV =(". Pansy.

I prefer the fully automated process, to be honest. I think it would be nice to be able to have a feature that would let us give a nod to people who we think deserve it, but in the end it is simply to easy to abuse. Spammers and trolls not only have friends, but they could make mutiple accounts. Any system that is able to be boosted will be boosted, unfortunately.

You see, the only thing that worries me over this whole Report Spam button, is that the definition of what people find humorous and/or agreeable comes into play. Me saying this on today of all days (something I wasn't involved in I may add), seems hypocritical, but what worries me most about it is people misusing it because they have a different point of view.
