It is crazy how much the clan scene has exploded sine the now approaching Halo 2 date is upon us. I was thinking about how much clans are recruiting right now, and that brought me to what I think is an interesting thought. Because of the fact that Halo 2 will be xbox live compatable and it will keep track of both clan and individual stats I think that there will be a market for mercinaires (forgive spelling) or basicaly "Halo 2 Free Agents" like myself for instance. I personaly don't have anything against clans but I much rather prefer to just be a "lone ranger". Well once Halo 2 comes out and those of us individuals start to move up in the stat brackets the clans will be chomping at the bit to recruit us. So I wonder if it will be possible for a person to join a clan for just a couple of matches or so. I have no idea what types of incentives the clans will offer to try to recruit the savy Halo 2 merc. But the thought is just interesting to me. Its like clans will be pro franchises trying to get all the good free agents while they can. Thoughts anyone?????????

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

In some form or another. But then, one must consider... how trustworthy are these mercs? In history... (as mercinaries are not really used to much in today's armies), mercs fought for the highest bidder. Most famous of these were the Swiss from the 13th to the 16th Centuries, IIRC. And I believe there was a treaty signed centuries ago stating no army could employ Swiss troops except Switzerland or the Vatican, (since they only have Swiss guards). They were badass soldiers and were wanted by all. Now, my point is this, in H2 Clan play... mercs could be a popular tool... but what incentive do they have to play for you? What will make them want to fight for you or someone else, or for that matter. What will make someone fight for you, against a clan who they recently fought for. There is ZERO loyalty, ZERO trust, and ZERO incentive to give it one's all. So, Mercs may not really become to big. I can see a team of 2-4 Mercs being in more popularity than simply one. Yet, who knows. We'll just have to see in 6 months.

Yeah the one big thing is how would pay or encourage them to play for you. Any ideas? But I think that it will be fairly big. I mean can you imagine the amount of recruiting there will be for someone like HP Darkman (Winner of Halo 50k Tourny).

Well chances are he'll be with his own team and no one else. Also... I'm sure there are better players than him. (Not trying to suggest me, cause... he'd cleam the floor with me). After all, not everyone can travel to compete in those Turnies. Once they hold a LIVE Turny... then you may see new people become the greats...

There probably are better players then him I was just using him as an example. I still can't think of anything that the clans would be able to offer the supposed mercs for insentives.

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

I'm going to buy up the rights to HP Darkman and the orges (SP?) and every other ranked tourney player.. Then I'll sell parts of their armor to companies like coke and nike.. Then we'll "tweak" their gamertags so they can share their name with other sponsors.. I'll cash in on all of the endorsements.. Muahahahahaaa

Meh, not really.

im in a halo 2 clan right now named First Contact and in my point of view i think the halo 2 clans rather take good clan members (that are good players and have there surten (don't know how to spell it) skills!
But it would really be cool to be in a clan i think, you can see the stats of your clan on the internet and you always have some good teamwork and some good players around you!!!
becaus you are talking about lone rangers, and some times those guys are really anoying caus they (in my eyes) don't even know what the word teamwork means, and that won't get you very far in a ctf game!
And you don't have 2 play with the clan all the time, you can go and do other matches and things like that (or go play online co-op with your clan, 2 player max, if it is possible for halo 2) And what's gonna rock 2 is that you can play with your friends on xbox live, with ONE XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT (they'll be in the game ass guests from your account)

I am glad to see a member of a clan chiming in reclaimer. First of all I would just like to repeat that I donn't have anything against clans. In responce to your comment about "lone rangers" like myself not being good at team work situations. In ctf games on xbconnect while clans are going at it I usualy can slip in and get the flag out. basicaly having someone deviate from a standardized plan creates a decent amount of surprise. I think that Halo 2 clans will become competitive over freeagents so that they can improve their clan stats. What do you think?

I think the lone rangers, or mercs, will be trustworthy... if they want to be hired, they have gotta have good stats... to do that, they have to win, and moreover, kill, and secure flags...

But personally, i think that mercs will egt no where... there are other games with clans, and i dont think they get mercenaries hired to win for them, because most usually they get people to join, and stay joined... (or most usually, people stay in a clan once they join it, and most people go in a clan)

Also, clan matches only have room for half of the total players... so if you (assuming it is 16 player LIVE ok... 8 on 8) have a clan of 9, and every one wants to play the war...., are you gonna hire a mercenary and let only 7 of your loyal clan play in it?

It would probably happen more when clans are first trying to recruit members. Like when they are on an odd number and they are trying to even things up.

it seems to me that form the video of the new Mp and the new features dicussed that teamwork is gonna be a big part of the game. now with the no driving witht he flag thing going into effect it will make sneaking into the base alone and taking the flag really hard to do because the maps will be huge and make no possibilty of an escape on foot. so with taht said it shud even futher diminish the need for a merc, i cud see them coming up more in TS based clans tho where teamwork isnt such a premium

Ive been a merc for many clans for reasons of my avaliability for steady clan play. Ill probably play on a clan for H2 or make one for people who cant always play every day but on some form of steady pace. Anyway theres nothing wrong with mercs just dont go out picking up a merc you havent played with before or are just playing with to see if they can play a match for your clan.

i think most of the time you die if you take it up against a whole enemy team, in my eyes teamwork is really important to have a good game and not going alone and betraying your teammates for a sniper and stuf like that!
where do you live, i have a uk pal, then maybe we can play xbc!!!
