Sorry about the other post, I think I posted in the wrong thread ;)

I loaded Halo Combat Evolved (single player) twice before with no
problems with all the bells and whistles going full blast and not one
screen hic-up.
Everything on my system is the same, but I have DirectX 9.0c
(instead of the "b" version that comes with the game) and the latest
N-vidia drivers ( WinXP unified)...Oh yeah and SP2 (which seems to be the problem?
Halo locked up, crashed, and now lags at about 1 movement every 3
to 5 seconds.
I've done everything I can find listed on all the FAQ's and
forums....Removing and reinstalling, downloading the updates and
installing them in the order listed (up to halopc106, changing game
settings, even changing my system video settings. For some unknown reason
Halo will not play like it did the 1st two times.
Other then the crashing and locking up on the load, Halo actually
played the 1 time I did get it to load (at all the top settings), but
then locked up at quit/ shutdown and never loaded after that one time.
After playing around with the video settings, I can actually get it to play great about once out of about 6 system boots....(And we all know how we love to keep booting our PC's over and over again just to play a game.)

I found some cheat codes with a game speed setting, but for some
reason the cheats refuse to work (tells me "cheats cannot be enabled
at this time").
Never have figured out the diff between the Custom Edition "CE" and the Combat Evolved "CE" Both are Halo CE aren't they?
Whats going on? Is Halo unplayable now SP2 is out or the newer
drivers won't work with it? Help !!! ;-)
Any ideas?
All this time and Bungie still doesn't have a patch that works?

Thanks...

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT HALO NOT WORKING, BUT I HAD SEVERAL THINGS THAT DID NOT WORK AFTER INSTALLING SP2. EVERYTHING WORKS FINE NOW AFTER UNINSTALLING SP2.

Halo Combat Evolved (refered to in all normal circumstances as "Halo") is the game that you buy in the shop and play the 1 player campaign and play a bit on-line.

Halo : Custom Edition (HaloCE) is a download from Gearbox which is on-line muliplayer ONLY and is technically a re-write of Halo. There is new multiplayer code which removes lag so that you no longer have to 'lead' when shooting someone, you aim at THEM and fire not 3cm ahead of them. It also allows a LOT of modding possibilites, one example being new maps or allowing the driver of a hog to aim and shoot the weapons of the hog on their own.

Halo runs perfectly fine for me on Win XP Home SP2.

Just a general query:

Which di you install first:

DirectX 9.0c? or your NVidia drivers?

AMD sempron 1.8 ghz (overclocked to 2.0 ghz)
NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 128 mb (overclocked, core:277 mhz, memory:477 mhz)
Win XP Home SP2
Directx 9.0c
80 gb 7200 rpm hard drive

Heyyo,

Hawk, you tried that HaloPC SP2 fix in the stickey thread? sounds like you need it...

If that doesn't work? well, check through that whole thread, cause SP2 sucks with HaloPC... infact, it just sucks cause lots of programs fail to work after installing it. :p

Yeah, HaloCE (Custom Edition) is better cause of the 'fast shaders' so the game's waaay less likely to kill off your framerate, which's nice... still not as smooth as its xbox counterpart (runs fine onna 700MHz Cpu, and 128MB GF3 videocard...). But the new stuff like server message of the day and settings button (F2) is cool, and the new way to show all teammates names (F3) is also pretty cool, so you can more easily coordinate your teamplay by easily always knowing where your buddies are. ;)

Thanks for the assit(s) gang, but guess this is as good as it going to get. Seemd to load and run perfectly (just like the 1st two times I loaded it on) but in case Bungie reads this.

Dell 2.43/ GB of ram...N-vidia Geforce Ti 4600 w/256 ram (latest drivers).... XP (SP2) (wheeee) DX 9.0c...........Game runs great if I load it averaging 2 to 3 times, the 3rd or 4th time it will play w/o dropping a frame, no lag, nothing wrong at all.

Trust me when I say I've tried about everything...many times with different settings ;) The last bunch of tweaks with the system video settings were the best (with N-vidia settings using the "GTF" setting and overriding the refresh rates on the game (instead of the setting for "allow program to select).......So Bungie you might start there ;)
I'm a semi retired independant game tester,(and have occasionally tested for several of the major CG's) so if you need more info on what I tried and found out.....well you all have my address ;D
