Well I just changed the email my gamertag was associated with. The one I switched it to is my main email address that I let a friend use awhile ago because I wasn't planning on getting a 360. The problem is that when I switched to this one, I now have his Bungie.net username. This is causing some problems because now I can't edit posts that were with my Happythetic username and now I'm not the author of some of my files etc..

So basically what I'm saying is can I change this username back to Happythetic?

No, it's not possible to change your username. You could try getting a new Live ID, but I'm not sure if that'll work or not.

I don't believe you can do that but you might be able to shoot a pm to a ninja and have them help you. they know more about the system then we do.

It's really not that complicated.

No, that name is already taken by your other email account right? And if that's not the case, then the email that you are trying to use already has an account on it and therefore can't have your Happythetic name on it. It would be much more simple if you made an all new Windows Live Account and then signed up for bnet using that account. The only warning I'll give you is that if "Happythetic" is being used by another person, or by another one of your accounts, then you won't be able to use that exact name. You might have to throw in some spaces or numbers.

Nice, that sounds alot easier. Everytime I've seen one of these threads no one ever gave that answer. This should be listed in the faq area or something.

Hey guys thanks for answering my questions. But man this sucks lol. And for that matter my friend had to make this username in all caps which makes it 3 times worse. Oh well.

EDIT: Oh noes! I tried to change my association back to happythetic@hotmail.com but alas you can only change it once every 30 days.

Try PM-ing a Ninja or Moderator about this. I was an Admin on a website once, It wasn't too hard to change the name on that website.

It's not hard, you're right about that, but if Achronos started changing names for a few people, soon, just about everyone would want their user name changed. I have personally seen Achronos change someone's user name once, and that was for a moderator.

Give Bungie a few days to register the change. The information has to travel through multiple servers before it can show up on this site. If it still doesn't work after a few days, try asking again.

Weekend traffic won't help the change process go any faster either.

Hope this helps.

This has been asked for before, and even mods aren't allowed to change their usernames so I've been told. It's just something Achronos doesn't want to start happening I would assume. Aside from "change it for one, change it for more" it presents the problem of recognizing a user after their name has been changed.

The web team could easily implement a system where user's can change their own name, it would be just as easy to limit it per x Days/ Weeks/ Months as well. Hmm. *Aureole has an idea for a poll.*

Ok then, imagine if you could change your name once a month. Imagine the forum chaos that ensues. That's roughly 1 million active people who could just change their names, and no one would know who's who, as well as allowing formerly blacklisted accounts to ditch what they've done (at least in the public's eyes, I realize account numbers wouldn't change so stats would stay and the like).
People wouldn't ignore them, or know that "Oh you're ____. I don't want to have anything to do with you"

They could make it where each account is limited to 2 (for example, could be more or less) name changes. Period.

Then people would only use it if they really needed to (especially if each account was only allowed 1).

That's still well over a million name changes. It's just not a good idea. Identity is something that is to remain solid.

Because all one million active users are going to change their name? I bet there'd only be a few hundred who actually wanted to change it. But in the end something like this is, of course, up to Bungie. I'm just saying.

I wouldn't underestimate it, a few hundred isn't likely, more like thousands.
