[color=#808000]Q: Are there any rules or guidelines I should follow?

A: Yes. In addition to Bungie's Terms of Use and Code of Conduct, there are specific forum rules pinned (stuck at the top of the forum for all to view) in the appropriate boards. Some forums are without the pinned rules, so there you are expected to follow the Code of Conduct and rules from other forums. An annotated copy of the general rules is located here.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: What is spam?

A: Spam is, basically, unnecessary posts that flood the forums with junk. It can be off-topic, stupid, offensive or generally unwanted material. You are not to spam.
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: What is flaming?

A: Flaming is the act of aggression unto others. It includes attacking, threatening, violent, unwelcoming or offensive posts. Flaming is disallowed.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: What is bumping?

A: Bumping is when you deliberately post so your thread comes first on the topic list, in a manner that does not continue the (allowed) discussion and looks for attention. Often, bumping is when you post directly after your previous post on the same topic (AKA. Double post), but can be you helping others to bump. If you spam to bump your topic, that's even worse, so make sure you do not.
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: What are moderators?

A: Moderators (or mods) are individuals selected by Bungie to moderate and help keep order in the forums. You can tell a moderator by their special title (Forum Ninja or Master Forum Ninja), and in some cases avatar (image) which has the word 'moderator' printed on it. They have authority in the forums, so listen to what they say.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: What are trolls?

A: Trolls are rule breakers. You are not to 'feed' them (provide them with material so they can continue their offensive acts, even a simple reply to a troll can cause this). Ignore, do not feed the trolls.
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: How do I deal with spam or flaming?

A: You don't. As in you don't respond in any way, form or fashion, instead follow the following procedure.
You can find helpful alternatives here and here.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: How do I report spam and violations of the rules?

A: You may report spam in the Moderators' chapter, or by PMing (Private Messaging) a moderator or Bungie employee. Be sure to include a link or board (forum) name.
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: What are newbs?

A: Newb is a banned term, which is designed as an attack at new people who don't understand things or make mistakes (or indeed, as a flame). You may find variations on 'newb', such as n00b, noob and newbie. If you see any posts using the word, report them.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: What's this 7th Column I hear so much about?

A: It is a collection of Bungie fanclubs. You can find all you need to know about it here.
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: How do I apply effects to my text?

A: You use the Text Markup Tags at the right hand side. Basically, you surround your text with the tags, so locate the desired effect, and replace the 'text' with your desired text. However; you cannot have any spaces when applying tags (also called BB Code), so Hello would not appear as Hello, but removing the spaces would make the text italic. To make a clickable link, such as http://www.bungie.net, merely surround the link with the [ url ] tags, and to make a link where you can customise the display text like: Bungie, use [url=http://......]Display Text[/url].
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: What do the Forum icons represent?

A: The Green Plus indicates a normal topic. The Yellow Exclamation Mark indicates a topic of interest that is pinned (and therefore a sticky). Finally, the Red image symbolises that the thread has been locked, and no replies can be made.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: What are all of the diferent colors you can put in text?

A: Essentially, you can choose any colour that you wish. In additional to word colours, you can also use HEX colours, like [color=#000000]. A helpful site to find the right HEX colour for you can be found: here.
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: What's a Gamertag, and what are Groups?

A: Groups are part of the Seventh Column -- read the FAQs provided in that link to learn more.

A gamertag is an XBOX LIVE "dog"tag, learn about XBL at XBOX.com.
[/color]

[color=lightblue]Q: What about custom avatars/signature images?

A: The only ways to get custom avatars are to:

a) Become a moderator (highly unlikely);
b) Become an employee (equally unlikely);
c) Create a 7th Column theme that gets approved by Bungie for general use.

You cannot get signature images.

Otherwise, idiots will post vulgar images and so on....
[/color]

[color=#808000]Q: What's a theme, and where do I find them?

A: A theme is a set of colors and pictures for a 7th Column Group/Chapter. As of now, there are only a few themes available. But there should be more coming in due time.

To select a theme for your Group, click on Group Settings and select your desired theme.

To make your own theme, go here, and everything is explained for you.

Saved this slot for Slang Dictionary. Bungie slang that forum members should Know

[color=white]Bungie Forum Slang[/color]

Note: The Word Noob or any Variation of the word is not allowed on bungie forums.

Blam! - You may have noticed The word Blam in peoples post. Or when you visit the bungie main page it says "Welcome To Bungie Studios: Blam!". Well there's a Meaning to this word and why you may see it so much.
First when you see it in a post like "-Blam!-", that is a word censor for Bad language. For Example: Your Such A Stupid -Blam!-!

The Meaning of Blam: Bungie Software's association with the word blam or blam! can be traced back to 1995. More recently however it was the code name for Halo. Also blam is commonly used by Bungie folks as "an exclamation upon decisively killing someone in a net game". Here is a Link to more info Linky

7 - The Tru7h, The Whole Tru7h and nothing but the Tru7h!

The 7th Column - As Bungie's official fanclub and Underground Army, the 7th Column is at the heart of the Bungie fan community. With thousands and thousands of members across the world, the Column provides a central meeting place for Bungie fans of all ages.

For More Info Click Here.

Also Read the Post on the top of this page about The 7th Column

Tru7h - Quote by Hamish Sinclair, the man that knows everything about Marathon.
Where did the word tru[color=lightgreen]7[/color]h come from?

I first used it back in July 11, 1997 when commenting on the M2 for Windows map changes and whether or not they were a hoax. While I coined the term the idea of changing a letter to a number isn't new. I got the tru[color=lightgreen]7[/color]h idea from the film The Fifth Element where one of the trailers ends "The Fifth Element... it mu5t be found". You can see my first attempt at trying this on July 9, 1997. Of course "mu[color=lightgreen]7[/color]t" didn't work so "tru[color=lightgreen]7[/color]h" was born. Why tru[color=lightgreen]7[/color]h? Well it sprang naturally from Bungie's propensity to use the number seven in their games and the fact that their games have a cryptic like quality where the truth has to be uncovered. Indeed some would say that the Story page attempts to uncover the truth (or surpress it). The green of course is the color of the terminals in the first game and Durandal's signature color. The word is now part of Bungie fan culture and indeed used by Bungie themselves.

Soffish - * This Soffish do not eat.
* Soffish will be woken up by water and look so alive!!
* Soffish is Missing! If finding please return to Bungie Studios. Do not eat!
* The ONLY Water Stuff Item!!

Thanks To Reiginko for some info.

how do you people know all this

As you can see by our member since dates, we've been around the site for a LONG time compared to others, and know practically all the little secrets there are to know about it.

Well, THAT, and we actually press all the buttons to see what they do or where they go. And for the some of us, coughPsychedsneeze, have actually pressed the unleash ninjas button under our own names in the group forums.

Ok, this is a cacheing problem. To solve it, just press Ctrl + F5, to clear the cache, and it should show up.

Or if it is there, and comes up with 'Topic Not Found,' then it has been deleted.

5 Step Guide to a Successful Chapter
By: snowmanaxt

Step 1: Purpose
The number one thing your Chapter needs is a purpose. Whether you chapter is dedicated to Bungie General, just Halo, or just your Clan, it needs to have this purpose, and this purpose must be obvious. You don’t want people to join your Chapter about your Clan thinking it’s a Halo Chapter. The best way to make your purpose apparent is to add it to your Group Description or Motto.

Step 2: Dedication
Not only does your Chapter need to have a purpose but you yourself must be dedicated to your Chapter. An active Administrator sets an example for all the other members in the Chapter. Not only that, but it is up to you as an Administrator to keep your Chapter on track. With out your presence your Chapter may fall apart or even become a Spam magnet. It is up to you to keep your Chapter on track.

Step 3: Moderators and Staff Members
Even the most dedicated Administrators have failed in their Chapter because they refrained from gaining dedicated Staff Members. Staff Members and Moderators are just as important as an Administrator or content. You are going to need help keeping your Forums and News in Check, because no matter how dedicated we are, things come up and some days we are not there. That’s where Moderators come in, they will help to make your Forum and enjoyable place. You should not give Mod Powers lightly though, you don’t want people who will abuse the privilege. When you give powers make sure you trust who you give them to.

You are also going to need to gain trusted Staff Members; these members will help you with maintaining your Chapter. Not only will these members help to moderate the Forums and News but they will also help you with content, including new thread and news stories. You should also take caution who you give powers to here; these people will have a direct effect on your Chapter.

Step 4: Content
One of the most important things about a Chapter is Content. Content is what brings members to your Chapter and keeps them there. Content can come in many forms, from news to new threads to polls and contests. The one thing you need to focus on is gaining exclusive content, coming up with brad new ideas for your Chapter. Going to other Chapters and stealing there successful polls and such is not a good idea. Members will notice and it will effect there opinion about you. Not only that but it will deter new members from joining, if they have already seen this in another Chapter then what is the point of joining yours.

Step 5: Recruiting
All Chapters at sometime will need to recruit in one way or another. Now constantly PMing people and posting in the Classifieds is not the way to do this. The best way to recruit is to PM only the people you know and think you will join, posting in the classifieds every so often, and posting a link into your signature. What ever you do, do not post Ads in other peoples Forums or in any other main forum other than the Classifieds. It will bring the appearance of your chapter down.

Well there is my 5 Step guide; I hope it was informative and helpful to some of you. If you have any more questions please PM me personally of Check out the Articles over at Chapter Founders , they have a lot of info all Founders should know.

A “What Happened to my Thread” Guide
By: snowmanaxt

Countless times have I seen those words posted on every single Forum. And Countless times it is answered the same. So I created this guide, in hope that most will read this before they post another of these threads.

If your post has been locked or deleted it is with good reason, Mods do not delete threads just because they do not like you or just because you flamed Bungie. I have seen countless “Bungie Sucks” and “Halo 2 Sucks” threads flourish and never get touched as long as they never broke the rules. Contrary to popular belief there is no conspiracy by Bungie to cover up all bad feedback.

If you post was nijafied in anyway at all it is for, and always will be for, one of these reasons:

Reason 1: You broke the Forum’s rules. Every Forum has rules in it; you may want to read them before you post anything, so as to know what you are and are not allowed to do.

Reason 2: You broke the Bungie Code of Conduct , you know that little thing you agreed to upon signing up on Bungie.net, yea, maybe you should have read that.

Reason 3: You posted it in the wrong Forum. Every Bungie.net Forum has a description; its right underneath the name of the Forum, if you post a Halo 2 thread in a Bungie old school Forum then it is off topic, you should expect it to be deleted.

Every single Ninja act falls under one of these three reasons! So, next time before you go Flame the Mods and making other useless posts telling everyone about it, go read the Rules and the Code of Conduct , and make sure you’re in the correct Forum. I am sure your stay at Bungie.net will be much more enjoyable if you do so.
