My question is there going to be a way that members can buy some ad time? I know lawyers and rules would have to be laid out but I can see some other community sites and members might want to promote on Bungie.net.

Brillian. Bnet is all about the community, so the community should be able to place ads here.

I hate ads myself, but if they were placed by bnet members it would be easier to deal with.

It does not justify the ads by saying other sites have them!!

No signature found. Click here to change this.

I don't mind an ad or two here and there, but few things piss me off more than when a website sells its soul to whoever is willing to fork over the most money, and subsequently begins making the ads the website.

No pop-ups.
No pre-page ads with a "Click to skip ad" button.
No ads littered all over the site.
No ads that distort the design of the website.

Provided there is a negotiation of some sort, don't let this happen:

Company with ad: We'd like it if you would endorse our product.
Bungie: We'll do it! What is it?

So many websites just take random requests, and before you know it, the Barney Fanclub is advertising "Hot Girl On Girl Action" without even realizing it.

That's how I feel. I don't know about anyone else.

The only thing I like about this site is the lack of adds. It has a simple, and aesthetically pleasing layout, and with all the annoying noobs trolling the forums, I would not visit the site if ads were implemented.

Sketch... are you serious?

I kind'a find it offensive that the idea was even thought up! I thought Bungie prided themselves with operating a free community without the media blitz of ads, annoying banners and side bar ads... and what the heck are with those things that float across the screen!?

I'm staunchly always going to say nay to any form of advertisement here (shameless Bungie plugs don't count) for the sake of the community that calls Bungie.net home.

If anything, how about membership fees? Wanna get off that blacklisting? 500 bucks under the table. ;)

Ads would be ok as long as the small ads were located below next to the ideal science logo.

Oh, you'd like that wouldn't you? Trying to buy a new desk so you don't have to work by the men's bathroom?

I believe that if Bungie is interested in monetizing the site they have every right to. however I think that they should take into consideration the target audience on the site ( Xbox user, Xbox 360 users, Xbox LIVE users, FPS fans, PC gamers, and of course Bungie fans)

I wouldn't mind Halo 3 DLC ads or ads for Halo Wars and I think these would be great places to start.
Also I wouldn't mind ads on the Bnet podcast

Maybe, I don't like ads, but if it becomes and important and more or less necessary part of financing Bungie, I'm okay with it. Whatever happens, Bungie must live on....

You've got to think crazy, of course, because you only get innovation by refining insanity. - Jason Jones

I don't know how I would fee about ad's on the website. On the one hand the site looks as good as it ever has with lots of new features. On the other hand, why would you guy's really need to advertise? Halo is just about a household name now around the world. I do not know what the implementation would be but would these ad's cause any preformance issues at all? I suppose as long as they do not get in the way, I wouldn't mind looking at them. I think it would be hard to fit them in somewhere without having to redo a page or clutter things up.

Don't let the replace forum banners, and don't do the IGN add system where you have an entire page devoted to a 300 x 300 advertisement. If the adds are going to be there, please keep them from being about food stuff, or things that are in no way related to the community.

Advertisements for games from other companies, or even from this company don't need to be there. I find them the most annoying; mostly because I already know everything int he ad.

Keep it relevant and low key please.

Actually, to change what I said before(quote is for reference)I would prefer that it mostly consist Bungie.net events. Maybe a little small banner on the bottom that said, "The new weekly update is online."

Community projects and other ads could also be done. Maybe advertisements about The Flood Fragfest or something of the sort. Group ads, yadda yadda yadda.

I say no to ads. They're annoying and they can give you trojans, adware, spyware, and viruses.

  • 01.12.2008 9:04 AM PDT

This text will appear with forum posts, groups and community files.

As long as it's nothing that you'd see on Myspace...then ads for this site, maybe at the bottom of top of the page, are ok. The community should understand that Bungie is a free company now, no longer under the wealthy clutches of Microsoft, and they must do what they can to keep themselves going, even if that means seeing a few small boxes on some pages.

one of the reasons I like this site so much is because it is ad free. But if you must gaming related adds would probably least painful for most peoples' eyes.

МОΛΏΝ ΛΑΒΈ

I am fine with ad's for the most part. You all have to pay the bills. As long as the ads are not intrusive. So no pop ups or ads in the middle of a forum, or those stupid hover over ads in text. Banner ad's and even the side banner ads are fine by me. You guys keep up the good work.

I'ma be honest. Fix your Ideal Science problem- namely it's oooooooooooooold. If that requires ad syndication, have at it.

You guys are like, 3 to 5 years behind common fansites running Vbullet, except your snazzy template.
Do whatever you have to for bringing in the cash, but make sure it's well spent.

I'm sure BeatdownDesigns could hook you up with some tight kicks! :P
Yes, I am shamelessly promoting LordGideon's crap.
Come to think of it, the manual runs that, so it's not crap. Hehehe, Giddy gon keel meee...

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

I'm fine with a few ads here and there, but keep them out of the Groups. More like Banners. The kind of stuff tucked away where they won't bother me. No flashes or shiny stuff.

And no Gaia Online ads.
