Ok, so I have a major issue with connecting to Halo 3. Here is the story.

1) I replaced my PCX5000 gateway with a Netgear CG814WG v2.
2) The gateway will allow me to log onto Xbox Live. It will allow me to get into a Pre-Game Lobby then as the game is loading it up... All players are set, the map and game type has been picked, the display "Disconnected from XBox Live" comes up. At this point, my internet and console will literally kick me off of XBL completely and take me to a Custom Game lobby where I have to sign back into XBL.
3) I have called 1-800-4MY-XBOX and they couldn't tell me what was happening. So I am posting here.

Please note that I can log on to Xbox Live and play Call of Duty perfectly, it is just Halo 3. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Does this happen in just matchmaking, or custom games as well?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

So long as you know how to use a computer, which you should if you are coming here, following this guide may help you.

It allows a system to connect straight to the internet with minimal roadblocks. While this isn't necessarily the best for PC's, it's safe for consoles.

I will check this out prometheus. I am not sure. I was gonna have my cable company come out and figure out what is going on with it. I have an 18% packet lost which I think contributes to this.

Two above, it is in MM.

Go to the Xbox 360 Dashboard and do an Xbox Live connectivity test and let me know what your NAT is. If it's Strict or Moderate it could be contributing to the problem.

I think the root of your problem may be stemming from something else, but it's worth checking out.

The NAT is Open. The real root of the issue was that I had a Strict NAT and changed my gateway to this new model, the CG814WG, and was able to get an Open NAT without opening up ports. I went ahead and opened up the ports, but after this problem initially occured.

I was once playing around with my Router and I opened a Port (no doubt the wrong one). After that I would be signed out within 10 seconds of signing in to Xbox Live. I managed to fix it though just by deleting all my custom rules and starting again. If your Router has any custom rules, you could try deleting them.

I can play call of duty 4 fine and even better now with my new gateway than my old gateway. It is H3 that cuts me out and disconnects me from xbox live the moment i go into a game. I mean it will go all the way to separating the teams, getting the game type and about to start playing when i am disconnected from XBL and left with losing EXP. I am losted and flustered.

I'm having this same issue right now and created an account here to try and solve it too!! I'm having the EXACT same problem, NAT Open, same Netgear model and everything...I can usually start a game though and even play on roung, but when the second game is about to start I get the boot. It only happens with Halo 3, no other game.

Is this possibly a hardware issue? I heard some rumors of faulty discs.

I have this same problem.

I've spent days researching it, and the problem is your Netgear gateway. You may be able to update the firmware and get it working that way, but I was unsuccessful in figuring out how. I've asked a comcast rep who set up digital cable in my house, and he told me that comcast only carries the netgear model of gateways.

At bestbuy a new residential gateway's about $120 bucks. Of course, you could just get a new modem and router for around $90... but as far as the CG814WG working, i don't believe it will.

CoD's still cool tho!

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Problems such as yours are best solved by calling your ISP.

Usually, your ISP support center is more professional than Xbox Support, so you'll probably get up and running by talking to them.
