my XBox is very old.. i got it when they cost $300. i really don't have the money for a new box.. but i need to get this one working before Halo 2 comes out.

the problem is when i put any disk in. it tries to load it, but then it says that the disk cannot be read. something like that. i think it might just be the lens.. but i don't know.. i think i might have to go out and buy a new one, and if i did, it'd definitely be the Halo edition one.. but i -really- don't have the money, and if i could get this fixed, it'd be awesome.

so.. any suggestions? anyone else had this problem?

on each side of the laser is a tension meter set at so many ohms (resistance) After so long they will adjust themselves. Essentially you would need to open the xbox and put a tension meter on that and literally turn the screws to a certain ohm. i have done this many times with xboxs on ebay. and made some money. I have the instructions if ya feel comfortable of opening your xbox. . .

i don't know how to wire a car cd player.. :D

if you have to write them out or something, don't worry about it, i can just find them somewhere else. but if it's just a link, then yeah that'd be cool if you could post it.

At least its happened now and not just before Halo 2 comes out. Now that would suck! Good luck with getting your XBOX fixed. I'd hate to know that a Halo fan has a broken XBOX and can't play his copy of Halo 2.

hahah.. thanks guys. i'm glad it didn't happen right before Halo 2, too.

i even have Halo 2 reserved, and paid off.. even though my box is broken.. heh. so i'll be sitting around, reading the instruction manual, if i don't get a new one.

I'm having problems too. My xbox loads slower than it used to and it also is having trouble reading DVD's even though I got the playback kit. I just bought Family Guy seasons 1 & 2 so i'm mad about it. Oh, it also has kind of a blinky screen once in a while, you know, like it is trying to watch TV on an old fashioned TV, except my TV is new. It also says that all of my discs are scratched, dirty, or damaged. I'm not joking. Please help me save my xbox before it is beyond repair.

hmm .. did you clean the laser with a cleaning kit ? that may help with your dirty disc error, with it acting all blinky..i would believe it to be one of two things. 1. your rca cable for the xbox are shot or 2.the inputs in the new tv. suck.

The older your Xbox is the crappier your disk drive is. If you look at an older Xbox like from the first few months of release you will notice that the disk drive is much different than the newer Xbox's one. So this may be the problem.
