On all the Xbox games I have, they all have the words NTSC on them. What is that for? What does it mean?

Short for National Television System Committee. The NTSC is responsible for setting television and video standards in the United States (in Europe and the rest of the world, the dominant television standards are PAL and SECAM). The NTSC standard for television defines a composite video signal with a refresh rate of 60 half-frames (interlaced) per second. Each frame contains 525 lines and can contain 16 million different colors.
The NTSC standard is incompatible with most computer video standards, which generally use RGB video signals. However, you can insert special video adapters into your computer that convert NTSC signals into computer video signals and vice versa.

Non-Terrestrial Space Corporation.
It is an extraterrestrial corporation founded by an army of super Lawn Gnomes from the fifth Dimension. Their leader is Santa Claus.

They use NTSC in Japan as well. However, being Japanese, and therefore technologically superior, they have to stick a J afterwards to form NTSC-J.

the ntsc version has 25% faster frame rate than the pal one.
But the PAL version has a higher resolution. Swings and roundabouts.

  • 12.27.2004 5:18 PM PDT

actually i prefer NTSC before PAL since it`s faster.

  • 12.27.2004 6:39 PM PDT

Like goweb said, PAL has a higher resolution.

Considering that our brains only process about 24 frames per second, anything above 24 fps is a waste. So really, the resolution of NTSC suffers for no real practical gain.
