1: is it true that you can get the flaming helmet or the recon helmet by getting killed by a cone or something weird like that and showing it to bungie?
2: how would you show it to bungie?

It has to be something you've done that Bungie notices. Not necessarily getting killed by a cone, but by doing something new and innovative. If it is as good as you think, they will probably take note on their own. Don't do "I can has recon?" and be creative as you can. Just don't get your hopes up kid.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

No, this is not true.

The flaming head chest piece (it's a chest piece armor that has the fireball. In this way, any helmet that a user wears appears to be on fire) is given only to Bungie employees.

The Recon helmet is an arbitrary award for any accomplishment the developer deams worthy. While it is true that two individuals have been awarded for circumstatial suicides, one being by cone, this won't likely happen again. The Recon helmet is just there to be earned, and you won't know what for until you get it.

I'd meant to divulge the difference between being able to earn Recon and the Employee only flaming hhelm chest piece. Thanks for clearing that up prometheus.

No problem.

And just to be clear, "No, this is not true." was directed towards the OP; just don't want you to mistake that.

I know, I'm clear enough on it, and I actually saw a gamertag "Fry" with Recon about a week back when I was playing with BerserkerBarage and Achilles. we figured he'd worked for Xbox live(at least BB thought he'd seen his name from something relating to that), so maybe there are other occasions?

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Bungie decides who gets the Recon armor, as everyone else has already said. The criteria to get it are intentionally kept a bit vague. All we know about it is one must do something that impresses Bungie. Be it an interesting vid, interesting map, or awesome contribution to the community, the primary goal is to impress Bungie. How to do that...is a bit indiscernible.

Just do something, and if it gets noticed, awesome. If nothing comes of it, oh well. The point of playing a game is to have an enjoyable experience. Don't take that away from yourself simnply because there is an armor permutation which you might want.

The flaming pieces of armor is a Bungie only thing. The only way to get that is to be hired on to Bungie themselves.
