I've noticed a lot of people, or maybe I just think I have, putting "Reported" in their post when they report someone's post, especially if it's a spammy topic. Isn't this just another IBTL deal?

I'm just pointing it out because it seems to bring bad topics to the top just like IBTL did.

Sorry if I sound a bit forum-coppy and whiny, but it's getting on my nerves.

I've noticed and reported them too , since they are breaking the rules by being 'off-topic' themselves.

Don't send me group invites.

Yeah, people really need to learn that replying to spam is just as much the problem as the spam itself.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I always chuckle to myself when I see that, knowing that they have not only reported the spam thread, but themselves as well.

And yeah, it's the exact same as IBTL. If the thread is worth reporting, it's not worth posting in. How is that hard for some people to understand?

Yep, you're all exactly right. Personally, I feel that some people are just trying to make others aware of their presumed "authority" over others by voicing their own dissatisfaction at a post or thread when really, they should be able to act as uninvasivly as possible. For example, there was one particular user on the Halo 3 forum last night claiming that almost every topic was spam. Even if the user had simply posted it on the wrong board unintentionally the reply was always the same: "Spam kills. Don't spam. Reported." Upon PMing this user about the issue they claimed that "nothing can stop my rain of justice".

This idea of exerting authority and "justice" on others is the reason why people reply when they report. It's almost a way of having the last word and perhaps even of sucking up to the moderators and the highly regarded members by proving that they are doing the "right" thing. It has definately become an IBTL trend but with a slight difference.
A forum-cop's paradise perhaps?

So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

I think people are saying that so that when it gets locked, people can see who reported it. I haven't been doing that. If it seems like it's breaking a rule that the poster is unaware of, then I will post and let them know what the rules are so that they know why when it's locked (I hate the term "Forum Cop"). However, if it's just pure spam or someone looking for attention, I report and leave and I'll check about 5-10 minutes later to make sure that a moderator got to it. If they haven't, then I'll send the moderator who's online a message and they'll lock it.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

um, they need to not feed the trolls. Is "reported" all their post says.... ironic how you could report them for spam >_<

...You now have the ability to report them and help to reduce the clutter, noise and abuse of our rules. But be aware, with these new tools come new responsibilities. Now that we are able zero in on problem threads, the one thing that we are seeing more and more of is the equally disruptive and far less helpful, "in before the lock", "you are so banned" and "reported as spam" replies.

Trust me on this. Posts like that are NOT helping. They are bumping and they are spam themselves. I go to a thread because of problem reports and in some cases I am blacklisting people who I know actually reported the thread. Why? Because they don't understand what they are supposed to do with the new tool.

If you see a bad post. Just click on "report". Don't respond to it. If the thread is bad, it doesn't deserve the bump, if the post is bad, it doesn't deserve the recognition. Report it and move along. Let us take care of it. And we will....

That's actually really sad. Some people can't just anonymously help out the forum, they have to let you know you're going to get in trouble like the brown noser in class. "Oooo, you're gonna get itttttt."

Yes I noticed it, I've warned and banned people for it this morning. I added it specifically to the Halo 3 stickies (where it seems to be most problematic).

I thought that Master Forum Ninjas were the ones that manage the blacklisting. As it says here.

I believe that master ninjas are the only ones with permaban power, and the regular ninjas can just hand out up to 1 week bans. I could be mistaken.

So, report the people who go into a thread and say "Reported". It's spam. Thus, it should be reported.

Problem solved.

Yah. I've noticed it alot as well. I've kinda overlooked it for now, but I may start reporting people for doing that. It is almost like saying "in before the lock", so I'm sure that the mods don't like it as well.

Good point and agreed, its kind of like telling a person that he/she is posting his/her clan recruitments in the wrong forum, in other words just making it last longer on page 1. Ive never felt an urge to post "reported" but i frequently PM users who has done something wrong to avoid bumps, sometimes to give them a chance to fix it before the mods show up and sometimes since i know that the mods wont add a cause in text to their locks.

Thanks Joan Evil for that link. I didn't even see that.

Just for the record, I can't believe I used "Report as Spam" in THIS thread....

Anyways, thanks for the reassurances. Before I wasn't sure if it was considered ok, although I had my doubts. Now I'm clear on it and will report people.
