The problem is I'm not sure when to report something as spam. Its too vauge. I know that when someone advertises something I should report it. I also know that when someone clearly intends to break the rules I report them.

But what if they make an honest mistake, such as posting in the wrong forum. If I report them will they get in trouble.

* How is it that "Fat Chance" and "Slim Chance" mean the same thing?
* If you choke a Smurf, what color will it turn?

XBOX User Space profile

when it's off-topic to the forum, then it's spam.

If it doesn't follow the CoC, then it's spam as well.

doesn't get much simpler then that.

If they post in the wrong forum, then they should PM a moderator asking them to move it to the correct forum.

Its not a disagree button so use it with sense. Sense is in the case correlating well with the forum rules, ToU and CoC.

Hey Recon... while you're here, I have a question: How "serious" should a post be for someone to report it as spam? I mean, if I see a post saying "You're a n00b," should I report that as spam, or is it too negligable to bother with? What about posters who insult someone in their post? And, the most important point for me; what about posts that just keep repeating what people say, or have no real meaning or contribution? For example, in this thread, I'm pretty sure that the "eeh" post is spam; but what about the guy talking about how a bungie employee posted in the thread, or the three consecutive quote posts that contribute absolutely nothing?

Sorry if this is a bit inane, I'm just trying to get a feel for what is spam and what isn't.

Thanks in advance!

As Recon said previously, use your judgment. Report what ever you believe as being spam. For example, I may think someone posting 'Locked' is spam, while someone else may think it's just a fair warning for the thread creator. I report it, and leave. Then, a moderator will have the final judgment. Personally, I will honestly report spam, of any kind. Even if it is something as simple as a bump. Just keep in mind that it is your judgment as to what to report. If you think something is spam, report it.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

A few other things that have been on my mind about this:

Obviously, those that abuse the system receive consequence, but is this consequence automated or manually done from those that have the authority to do so? If a member appears to be legitamately trying to report spam, but their targets aren't necessarily the best of choices, are/would verbal, non-official warnings given to them, or at least considered, telling them to be less liberal on the use of the system?
