Yo, i don't know if any of you used Gevee Grab it was this awsome thing that allowed you to upload file share vids onto the net, i think more people would use this site if that was available. So vote for a brighter futre. (with me)

Yes, I would. If Bungie could team up with Geevee and we could get an 'official' version of the Grab software, that would be amazing. [:

You just read that other thread 3 threads below and decided to start this one didnt you? Im going to go with what i posted in that other thread, it would be cool but im not sure if it would be worth the trouble. Perhaps theyre already working on it, who knows? Im pretty sure that no one would turn down such a thing though.

I'll be on my own side.

Can someone give me a rough descrption of this Gevee Grab thinger? Does it actually let you stream videos?

File share videos? Don't they already do that?

Unless you mean like YouTube videos and such. No, we have YouTube for that.

Bungie.net...
a) Gets tons of visitors. They hardly have to try to get more people to come here.
b) The moderators don't always want to moderate people's videos. (Except Evilcam. I'm sure he'd love to go through mass amounts of -blam!-)
c) I lied about Evilcam. None of the moderators would want to do that.

I got this from their website: "GeeVee is a user submitted game-play video community." It looks kinda like the youtube of video games.

I'll be on my own side.

Think of the bandwidth that would be wasted on bull-blam!- like OMG SIK NO SCOPE LOL, a thousand times a day, on top of the millions of visitors they get already for the forums and all the stats they have hosted here.

The costs would be way too great.

So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

It would be too much. Bungie would have to spend lots of money for servers to handle the bandwidth. They already have enough traffic coming through here everyday.

What emulators....people have been trying to get an Xbox 360 emulator for thier PC since it came out.
You would need the 306 emu to get the halo 3 theatre emu to work...but first you need a halo 3 theater emu.

This is not like writing an HTML page...its serious HARD coding into the servers and it would require MASSIVE amounts of space.
the save films from the beta took up over 1TB of space...and that was only a month of films.

You do realize that gevee doesnt require the videos to be stored on servers right? You download an emulator that emulates the code from file shares. So the amount of data wouldnt be endless but it would require some extra work and maintainence.

Read up, the idea would be to have that linked to the file shares/halo 3 files forums so that when someone wanted to watch a video they saw here the actuall emulations and recording would be on their own computers and not the servers. So whats needed are these programs linked in a smooth way to b.net. Having it streamed directly from stored emulations on b.net would just be stupid and highly storage demanding.

We still need the emulators...they don't exist.
Creating them is not worth the time and money.

Is it really that hard to go turn on yours 360 to watch a film?

Yes the PC factor adds convenience...but it isn't feasible

PKF, it is obviously feasible -- it is already happening. Do you not understand how GeeVee really works?

Not all of us are sitting around our house all the time. I don't happen to carry a 360 with me to work, or the airport, or my parents' house when I go to visit. But maybe I want to watch some videos there. An emulator isn't necessary. Just hook up several hundred XBox 360s to capture cards, charge users a monthly or per-video fee to recoup costs for the 360s and bandwidth, and set it up on BNet.

I think that it's not only feasible, but a potential revenue gainer for Bungie (as pointed out by Recon in Sketch's sticky). Especially since it would massively divert traffic away from GeeVee-style sites and here to Bungie.net. With the new advertising ideas being tossed around, that would result in even more traffic for the site.

I like this idea, and I wonder whether Bungie will consider implementing it.

Sorry..as i understand it now it would be a link in the file share like download to my 360, but instead it would be download to my Geevee?

Edit:
If that is the case (which i REALLY missed) then yes it would be something to look into, people would have to understand that it wont be online as fast as a file share..may take a day or two for your order to be processed.

(i apologize, i was under the impression we were still on emulators talk form before.)

what emulators?

I get the impression that GeeVee is not using emulation software (otherwise they would have to license it from Bungie (MS actually) as it would require the Halo 3 models, animations, and graphics and some sort of rendering/animation engine). But is rather someone (or a group of someones) who download a submitted saved film from a published share and manually play it back (on privately owned 360's using personal copies of Halo 3) and capture it. Of course there are legal issues of using that configuration in a for profit enterprise as well.

The Opening Post in that thread doesn't give any technical details, just the procedure for someone to use it.

If thats true Recon then its hella stupid. i got the idea, from the little google and the site had to offer, that they had cracked the code and were able to get a stream from the file share codes. There´s no way in hell that they can provide a high demand service like that, it would require an endless amount of 360´s, computers and employees.

If the service was run for profit, then the cost of having a software engineer write code that would enable automatic capturing and upload of videos would, in the long run, be profitable. The number of 360s and computers required would not be "endless." It probably would not require more than a few dozen running specialized streamlined software designed specifically for this function. Add in a place on the site for users to upload their own edited Machinima videos, and you're pulling in even more customers.

Considering the massive income potential for, oh, say, a million (if it's only one out of every 5 or 10 players who purchases the service) users paying $5 or $10 a month for the service, I think that this would be a no-brainer.

Regardless of all the legalities, and whether or not it is possible to reverse the code or what ever technical slang you can throw out. I would have to say yes, yes it would be cool to have that.
