I've been hearing a lot about "circle boosting." I'm somewhat new to the community, so could someone please tell me what that is?

Suffice it to say that it consists of network manipulation. It is very, very bad and is grounds for a permaban from Halo 2 online.

I see...that's kind of stupid, isn't it? It's just a game, after all, but I guess people will do whatever they can to get ahead.

Bingo! For some reason, many people lose sight of the fact that Halo is merely a game. A collection of creatively arranged pixels made for our enjoyment. Cheating is quite stupid for several reasons. One of these being the inevitable ban from playing the game ever again (online at least). Another being that it is only a game, not life and death. It just doesn't make sense to break the rules just to 'win' a game. I think a poster I once saw sums it up nicely. The sign reads: "There are no shortcuts to any place worth going". I might be completely off base with my incoherent ramblings, so I apologize in advance.

No, that makes a lot of sense, and it's true. Why would you cheat, at the risk of being banned, having your name shunned, and people looking down on you--all to win a game and get a "decent" ranking that would have taken you two days more to get had you been legit? It makes no sense. I think that bans should be more severe (i.e. transferring over to Halo 3) because it really sullies the integrity of the game itself. Like how Barry Bonds can't get into the hall of fame because he juiced. That seems fair, right?

Fair is a word I grew up without. I'd suggest you drop the use of it, though you do have the right idea.

Since when do you get permabanned from halo for circle boosting lmao. They dont do perma bans anymore the only kind of ban you get is host banned, which is just like it sounds you are unable to get host in matchmaking anymore. This happens if you use real forms of cheating such as standbying team standbying and modding which can hardly be done in mm anymore. To me circleboosting is the least harmful of all forms of cheating as no one gets affected negativley. You basically fix the server to where you can only get paired up with a group of your choosing , usually your friends using a firewall program on your computer, and you take turns winning, and losing. It goes in a cycle you get 3 wins for every loss, this affects no one outside of the circle so its really not as bad and terrible as was mentioned but it is cheating nonetheless. I just thought it was funny that he said you permanentaly get banned from matchmaking for circleboosting.

But you're still cheating the system no matter who it hurts. Besides, it still favors them unfairly, because their stats go up while the rest of us have to boost them by being legit. Cheating should not be tolerated under any circumstances; now I'm not talking about a permaban but at least have some punishments for people other than a host ban; who cares if you can't host? I know there's the whole "host advantage" but still it's matchmaking, am I right?

People who call themselves "Bridgers" have programs on there computers that shows everyone who is at a hotspot on there connection and controls who they can or can't play with using there firewalls and other stuff. They basically can control who they play in matchmaking and just play the same party over and over again so they get free exp. How it works is they get 5 people at the same level (usually high levels) and 3 people who will always loose. The go into matchmaking and one team commits suicide and quits and they repeat this until they get to the level they want. Its what no life kids do to get a meaningless rank in Halo 2. Why they do this IDK why

They do this because they can't prove themselves worthy in real life. End of story. Can't find the sniper? Because I'm the snipe!
