exact #? Uhh. Lots. Because they all (i think...) connect in a big array wiping out galaxies at a time right? Lots.

If you mean the games, there's already a topic.

If you mean the rings, maybe 4-8.

I don't think anyone will ever know, until halo 2, or even farther.

Another poster went and did all the math. He concluded it would take 13. One for the central core of the galaxy and then the rest of them to cover the spiral arms. It's a bit hard to calculate because there's a significant amount of overlap due to the Halo's spherical radii.

I would have to say around 3 to 5 Halo games at the most since by Halo 3 the Master Cheif will either be too old, dead, or burnt up by plasma wounds to fight again.

Bungie did say that the Halos had a 25,000 light year effective radius. Since we know the dimensions of the galaxy we could calculate how many it would take to destroy all life in the galaxy.

How many Halos were actually finished before what befell the forerunners... now that we don't know.

Remember what the halo's are for, Flood. The rings just destroy all life in a certain part of the galaxy right? So the rings will just go far enough so the Flood can't feast on a planet then move on. The forerunners built the rings to only destroy a part of the galaxy so the Flood can't move on to feast from planet to planet. I don't know if this makes sence but its too hard to explain so.

We don't know what the Halos are for. When Cortana was talking to the Master Chief she was emotional, and was referring to how the Halos would stop the flood. She didn't explicitly state that was what they were designed to do.

The flood spread far too fast for the Forerunners to build the Halos as a defense against them. If it wasn't for the the marines and the Master Chief blowing up the Halo then the Flood would have been off of it aboard stolen covenant cruisers.

No, I think they were built for another purpose, possibly as a general safeguard against any threat like the Flood.
