I really hate putting "official" in as a topic header, but if this thread is stickied, i think we maybe put an end the wave of posts pertaining to the question we've all been asking:

Is Halo 2 going to be released for the PC??

Im gonna take a stab at the question, but if we can all try to limit our questions to about the possibilty of Halo 2 PC to just this post, i think it would free up alot of space and on the forum. I know this is just another topic about it, but if this gets stickied (please?); my hope is that we can all sit in one thread and talk about it and draw some conclusions as apposed to asking random questions that have most likely been answered, asked, or discussed in a previous post.

now to the question....

I think its most definite that Halo 2 is gonna be released for PC. Here's why.....

1.) Microsoft LOVES Money

With the Release of Halo 2, Microsoft pulled in quite abit of cash, with the selling of the Xbox and the game alike. With preorders I believe reaching 1.5 million copies, Microsft knew that Halo 2 was gonna be a gold mine for their Xbox industry. In anticipation for this, the day Halo 2 was release, Microsoft raised the price of the Xbox to accomidate the people who were buying an Xbox for Halo 2 (a $200+ investment for just one game). Many people went and bought an Xbox for Halo 2 just as Microsoft thought and cashed in on it just as they had hoped.

But they didnt stop there....they knew that the holiday season was close and that if they announced that Halo 2 was coming out for PC....it would have taken away alot of $$ from the Xbox industry. So they decided to wait and milk the Xbox sales of Halo 2 as much as they could (and still are). My geuss is that Halo 2 is already in development for the PC and will be announced in 2005 (early, mid, or late) so that they can get as much Xbox profit as possible.

2.) Halo 2 is bottlenecked by the Xbox

Halo 2 is very much so bottlenecked preformance wise by the Xbox. I've played both Single and Multiplayer and have noticed quite a bit of chopiness in the gameplay as well as cutscenes. Its just to hot for the Xbox to fully handle. This is where the PC comes in. As we all know, the PC is the most powerful gaming console right now. It will not only play Halo 2 without slowdown, but also play it at higher levels of detail and resolution (AA and AF too) . On top of this, Halo 2 PC is something that pretty much all of the the Halo PC users want. Halo PC was very successful for the PC and microsoft did notice that. So for Halo 2 PC, microsoft will be able to draw from the existing Halo PC crowd for this game...a plus for them. Furthermore, Halo 2 has attracted quite a few newcomers attention to the series who never even played Halo. Halo 2 PC will allow them to join the crowd and buy the game (another plus for microsoft). Furthermore, some people who own Halo 2 on Xbox will probably buy Halo 2 for PC for improved gameplay, gfx, and of course some new weapons that Bungie will add for to further spice things up.

3.) Halo was originally meant for PC!!! (I think)

Although i am not sure (probably should as a mod), i think Halo was originally meant to come out for the PC first. However, Microsoft needed a flagship game for the Xbox and Halo, in all its glory, was it. Even if it wasnt originally meant for the PC, Halo 1 and 2 are made on an engine that doesnt need much of a conversion at all to PC. This allows for Microsoft to make a cheap conversion and copies of a game that will have a terrific production/profit ratio for them

All these things being said, i think its quite obvious that Halo 2 will be released for the PC. For me, Its not a question of if it will, but of when.....time will tell.

aSandWich I totally agree with you!

Halo was first made for this PC yes, until Microsoft took over and announced it as an X box title. Bungie always promised that Halo Would be realsed for the PC as it did not want to let it’s dedicated fans down.

So what now bungie your going to let us down on Halo 2?

However my concerns are that X box 2 is coming out, so Microsoft will be pushing Bungie into making another game for X Box 2. Therefore they will forget the whole idea about Halo 2 PC.

Bungie has made Halo 2 link directly to their site, if it was on the PC it would go through game spy. So I doubt there would be anything like that

The PC allows for updates however since now Halo 2 can be patched…

So the real question is no one knows really! But there is one thing, Bungie will let a LOT!!! Of people down if they don’t create it for the PC.

As for Xbox 2, i've heard about a Halo 2.5 that will basically be Halo 2 remade for the Xbox 2. No doubt they will add a few new things here and there and of course up the gfx abit, but this just goes to say that MS needs another flagship game for Xbox 2. Halo 3, which is already a year in the making, wont come out simultaneously with Xbox 2 like the Xbox 1 and Halo 1 did. therefore the remake of Halo 2 is whats next. If MS is actually willing to remake the game for another console, i dont see why they wouldnt do it for PC as well.

But for us PC users, as you said, MS and Bungie would be very stupid in letting down all of us down in not making Halo 2 for the PC

i hope halo 2 pc comes out because im not paying $300 for halo 2, xbox, and xbox live. theres just no way no matter how much i love the game, however i sure hope that one of the bungie.net staff reply's to this post because i have tried everything except calling or knocking on their door and they don't reply to me.

While I fully agree with all that's been said, it's kinda been said a ahundred times before. I feel like banging my head against a wall every time I see a Halo 2 on PC thread. I seriously don't know if Bungie will release it on PC anymore because they're taking too long. No one will give a -blam!- by the time it comes out because there will be better games. There already ARE better games on PC, more to the point. From this point forward I officially don't give a -blam!- if it comes to PC or not. For other people's benefit, I hope it does. I will only take a personal interest if they make up for all the mistakes they made, like make it possible to turn off all the new features which make the game worse than Halo 1.

I beg to differ Skippy,

Pretty much every other Halo PC player i encoutner feels that Halo PC is the end all be all best FPSer out there. Even with the release of Half Life 2, Doom 3, and FarCry, i still have freinds saying they like Halo PC better. I just got back into the game a few weeks ago and wow! While i like the Half Life 2 GFX and Single player just as much as the Halo one.....Halo Multiplaye IMO, totally beats the crap out of the HL2 online option (CounterStrike: Source).

Just look at the Release of HL2....it was delayed for almost a year and everyone was really upset. But Valve squeezed of a few hundred thousand pre-orders and even more in-store buys. They totally cashed in.

With something like that happening for the Half Life series...im sure the Halo series will be similar if not better on the PC

Thing is though it's not the amount of sales that counts. Record numbers of people bought Halo 2, and record numbers of people were disappointed with it. I'll admit Halo PC owns most FPS's, except HL2's single player, and some other game's graphics. But I agree about multiplayer, that and CS are two of the best MP experiences out there. My point is though, there are better games than Halo 2 on the PC, Halo 1 is most deffinately one of those games. Sure, millions of people will buy Halo 2 for PC thinking it'll be great. And sure, millions of people will yet again be disappointed. But think about it: how many people come to these forums saying they can't run Halo 1 on PC very well, if at all? Chances are every one of them, and hundreds more will not be able to run the more graphically demanding Halo 2 for PC if and when it comes out, since the majority refuse to upgrade or don't understand that new games need more power than older ones. I know people who think HL2's graphics are terrible, and you and I both know that's the result of their PC, not HL2. So maybe I was partly wrong, there probably will be a Halo 2 for PC, and it probably will be a financial success. But I stand by my claim that there will be better games for PC by the time it's released, if not already, and I'm sure that there will be even more disappointment over the PC release than there was over the Xbox version.

Yello

well, I think that if it does come out for the pc, the fact that they havent announced it yet is no supprise, beacause it took em 2 years to port the first one to the pc, so it (hopefully) is just a matter of time

It only took 9 month to port it to PC. It took 2 years for Microsoft to decide to port it to PC or not. Everybody should get this fact inbedded into their skull since look at Chronicles of Riddick, that was ported only like some 6 months and it came out as a well polished game for the PC and it runs faster then Halo PC.

As for everybody else, I think I'm going to step back from Halo PC because the game represents Microsoft's atitude toward the PC community. A rush job game that was slapped with Halo on it with the words invisible to the eyes saying "if it doesn't work on your PC, too bad, you paid what you get". Well, off to play some Riddick, now THAT is an excellent port of a console game and every company should take note of what Starbreeze and Vivendi Games did, unlike Microcrap and EA screwing Gearbox.

Heyyo,

Actually, it was for Mac's first! (credits to Ekul for pointing out something I should've known)

Think about it, Bungie started off as a game company for Macintosh computers, so why would they go to PC and abandon their roots? well, to sell out for a sweet profit. I don't blame them, I myself would've done the same thing. Why? cause I'm human, and I want money cause I'm broke. :p

As for Halo2PC? no doupt. But I doupt it'll happen until like, at least 10 months after the release of Halo 2.5 for Xbox2......... Who knows, by then I might be over my Halo facination due to neglect of their PC fanbase....

[EDIT]
Oh, the next big game I'm waiting for release is Quake4. I grew up on Q3A, it's my best FPS, and I loves it a lot. I know there's no news on Quake4 release... but I bet it's still gonna beat Halo2PC by a longshot, lmaoz. :p

If ya wanna see how Quake4's turning out?

Heh, it does kindof look like Doom 3 remade, but as long as it keeps that Q3A feel? I'll game as a happy dude. :)

Its true that M$ is not to considerate of their PC gamers, but they are aware of the cash in out pockets...theyll but the game out....will the make a good port?....Hopefully....

Is Halo 2 going to be released for the PC??
The answer is...maybe. No announcement has been made either way. You'll just have to be patient.
Actually, it was for Mac's first!
It was actually intended for both PC and Mac, back in its RTS days. And it was developed on a PC.

If it was released after Halo 2.5 on xbox 2 (assuming that's more than just a rumour) then I seriously think that'd be a mistake, since xbox 2 isn't meant to be coming out until 2006. Who's going to wait a year and a half for Halo 2 on PC when it's already been released on Xbox? The hype is already dying. And no amount of advertising or false promises will ever re-gain that hype for the PC market. As far as a relase date goes, the sooner the better for everyone's sake (apart from poor Bungie or whoever it is who'll be forced to convert it and publish it under a tight deadline, and then suffer a barage of insults from retards expecting to run Halo 2 with everything turned up on a 486MHz celeron from 1998).

If Halo 2.5 even exists...and comes out before the Halo 2 PC version in 2006....I'll be done with M$ for good. That would be the total let down for the Halo PC gamers.

As for the system requirements.....if you have a celeron.....get rid of it if you want to be playing any of the newer games at decent settings

I play Halo at 1024x768, with highest sound quality; Textures Medium; Shadows off, and everythng else on high (no hardware acceleration). thats all topped of with 2xAA; 4xAF. I get about 85fps in calm zones and 40-50fps in really big big battles.

Thats with my P4 Prescott @ 3.02ghz

My old 1.8ghz Celeron.........same settings at 800x600 getting 30-40fps...

CELERON = SATAN!

For those of you that have cable, there's a channel called techTV; channel 241 or 19. On that channel, there is a show called X-Play which is a totally awesome show that reviews, previews, and goes into depth on video games. Some of you may have already heard about the show, but they went in and got the inside scoop, and yes, it WILL BE COMING OUT. The official date has not been particularly set. Some say March 2005 others say 2006, but make no mistake within two years it will be out on PC.

Heyyo,

Rockstar is nicer than bungie and M$: confirmed dates for the relase of GTA: San Andreas for PC and $box. June 7th (North America) and June 10th (Europe) of 2005. Sure, far dates, but at least it's better than Bungies "not planned" by a longshot. Sounds like that's gonna be my next big game, and then Quake 4. ;)

http://www.megagames.com/news/html/pc/gtasapcandxboxconfirmed anddated.shtml

LMAO, ya know what? I bet we'll get Duke Nukem Forever before Halo2. And theyir release date is "when it's done"... that still whups a "not planned" anyday. =D

So time to reorder my future buying frenzy:

GTA: San Andreas
Duke Nukem Forever (< Truly my first FPS was Duke Nukem 3D, this would be diving back into my FPS roots, it'll be awesome! w00t!)
Quake 4
Halo 2 for PC..........

I think you guys are wrong when you say the "Hype" will be gone, because the "Hype" wasnt gone when Halo 1 came out for the pc.

and besides I think that waiting for something actualy enhances the anticipation, because you want it more and you cant wait for it to come out, in this case HALO 2

God bless

I personally dont see H2PC going too far. I purchased Halo PC because I wanted to play new people. Im not too big on PC games but I figured it was worth it to see how I compared to others. Well, now that Halo is on L!VE why would Bungie need to make a PC version? I know the PC people want it, but most of the PC people I talk to didnt like Halo PC. So, Im not saying its going to come out or not. I'm just saying I dont see it bringing in as much profit as Halo PC brought in.

i'm with ya all the way on this sandwich.
