I'm going to be getting a few servers from my school when they clear out the older yet stilll very usable servers.

I'm also going to be getting my own domain and my own website. I have a friend who is a pro website developer =p.

I am really thinking about doing something similar to GeeVee, where I would capture the videos and then store them on my servers and have them available for people to download.

At first I wouldn't charge anyone, but if it gets going really good, which I expect it too, then I'll need to talk with someone who has some authority at Microsoft/Bungie to work out a deal on sales and percentages of who gets what.

I'll need to talk to someone who has the paygrade to deal with expansion and new services.

My service would look something similar to this:

Upload any video 10 MB Max.

Cost - free for now.

Available for download to anyone.

You'd half to create an account though with instant registration. None of that having to go to your e-mail and activate bs.

Also maybe forums to tie into it. idk yet still planning.

I just need to get a few SATA Terabyte drives =p.

I can hook up servers and run them and completely manage the whole site myself.

Might need to bring some people on board to help with the capturing part of the videos.

Lastly I would like to see somebody, anybody have a reliable and pretty fast as well as big service to provide this.

I have a lot of resources and people to help. I can get things as I need them such as more bandwidth and space.

I'm 20 and this could be a very good opportunity for me and microsoft to make a ton of money.

More to com e Later

Thanks. Pyro

1 more thing.

As soon as I get a good capture card I'll begin doing this for free right away to see how real this is.

I got 180 GB free on this laptop atm so I can host a ton of videos as it is. so thats 1,000 videos at 10 mb each.

A terabyte drive is only 400 bucks, but I can find them cheaper.

I can get 500 GB drives for only 80 bucks.

I also run Zonealarm Pro - so no viruses or anything like that.

Also If i charge to belong to the site only, then is that a copyright violation?

If it gets worked out it could look som ething like this - 20% to microsoft - 15% to bungie - 15% to more server space and upgrades - 50% to the people who do the capturing.

Over at HFCS we're constantly hard...

Wait...
What?

In response to your subject, yes, you can start a Halo 3 Hosting Site, though I doubt Microsoft would want to make any lucrative deals with you unless your site became extremely popular. There's also a few other important details you need to know:

1) Who is going to program and code all those webpages? To keep people from breaking your site, you need rock solid coding, but effective and flashy enough to look modern. To design a site like that would cost hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars, and any of your friends, unless they're a complete moron, wouldn't do such a large job for free.

2) What if your stack crashes, the power goes out for extended periods of time, or your ISP goes down? No one will be able to visit your site and your sponsors won't be able to advertise. You need redundancy plans.

3) Are you aware of the cost of a T1 line? It's approximately $250 per month, which gives you approximately 32 connections at 3 Mbps. If your site booms, your looking at 3 or 4 T1 lines all running into your basement.

4) ZoneAlarm is great and all, but It won't stop anyone serious about crippling your network. You need to protect yourself and your data from everything from network attacks to time bombs. Software to handle all of this is usually very expensive and requires of team of people to keep it running effeciently.

Bottom line, have a major ISP host your site at their building. Not only will upgrading bandwidth be convenient but your site will remain secure.

P.S. - Hosting the videos on your laptop is a reckless idea. Not only do you not have enough bandwidth or processor power, but it would leave your system vulnerable to any malicious person.

Yes I know I wrote this pretty fast just trying to start the planning/brainstorming part of it fist =p.

also my ISP virtually never goes down as I don't invest in garbage internet.

I could burn them off onto DVD's and mail them to people.

I am alitttle worried about the power issues. rofl.

Maybe I could do it free and have a donation button? lol

with enough money I'd rather go for a T3 line.

I lokked it up once and it would cost $540 a month for a T1 line to my basement.

If I had 50k ppl, The internet wouldn't touch profits so no worrys there for now at least.

Also generators keep all power problems fixed for the most part.

I know it would cost a lot of money, but it would make a ton of money also.

I'm already in the planning stage to make another business - a web site development and networking buisness all in 1.

Also this would be easily popular, I really don't doubt that.

Also negoiations can be made where neccasary. - with microsoft, bungie, ISP's can get a cut and so on.

Also were going to be going to 10 GB internet before too long, so T1 's price will come down bigtime.

I can get a T1 line for 80 bucks a month also.

I'm just a person with a few dreams, and if I pull some resources together I might be able to pull this off.
