To be honest, I think we need fewer statistics. Perhaps it's selfish or a lack of discipline on my part, but I can't help worrying about the stupid numbers when I play Halo 3, and how my performance will look when quantified and summed up at the end of the game. Far too many of my actions are influenced by my K/D ratio (precariously teetering slightly above average), tool of destruction, kill total, EXP, rank, average life, and on and on. This takes away from my enjoyment of the game. Remember in Halo 1 and the early days of Halo 2 when you could just run around and shoot and it didn't really matter too much if you died or missed? It was a hell of a lot more fun and seemed much less like work.
I suppose I could blame myself for caring about it, but after seeing some of my XBL friends refuse to allow people in the party because their stats weren't good enough (no kidding), and after seeing people ridiculed and harassed about their statistics constantly on these forums, I can't help but wonder if the blame shouldn't go on all of us.
