Subject: Bungie Breaks Their Own Rule On Adult Content Linking!

Wow, you can have blood, gore, violence, and strong language, but the second you get a minor -blam!- referance, you freak out? reinds me of an article in PC Gamer. In California, there are four high detail statues of naked women in a public area, but the governent/ESRB decides to ignore it and change Oblivions rating from T to M because of a user created mod that makes nude characters. you must willingly download it to see/use it, yet these statues are out in the open in a city. We have violence, people run their mouths with stong language, and you can see blood on a kids channel, yet whenever someone says ANYTHING even if it's NOT intended to be a -blam!- referance, people suddenly point and shout "0H MI G0D U MONSTUR!". Pathetic, really.

-edit- Face it people, do you really think a 12/13 year old kid doesn't know what breats are? do you think a child that gae doesn't know what a -blam!- looks like? And even if they didn't you have to willingly click on that link, and they arn't scarred for life. They arn't going to die, infact, they only learn a little about human instinct a little younger. France allows waist high nudity on public magazines, and guess what? Their underage sex/AIDS rate is ten times lowe r than the U.S. Little factual info for you.

I thought Frankie went a little too far with that link. Yeah, Halo is an M-rated game, but it's not rated M for the sorts of things posted on Newgrounds, or even the sorts of things contained in that particular Flash video. It'd be fine if Bungie actually discouraged kids from using the site, but the fact is they make no attempt to discourage people of all ages from coming here, and so they need to behave accordingly. No, they aren't everybody's parents, but the content of this site is deliberately kept pretty clean (even bad stuff on the forum is pretty swiftly stomped out), so if they're going to link to something on the front page, they should be careful about what that something is.

Right, whos not prepared for the rigors of parenthood raise your hand? By that I mean, actually paying attetion to what your kid is doing. If they end up here, on a site about a M rated game. You should ask your self what they are doing here before questioning what is posted here. Little do you realize your over zealousness about companies not watching over your kid for you does infact ruin the enjoyment of others.

Wow... extremely insiteful. Thank you for your opinion... *Raises hand* o.o

I don't care about mature content. I've probably been watching R movies since I was like 3. I remember Robocop I couldn't have more than five.
I thought that movie that frank put up was a waste of time and not funny at all. The guy said it took over a year to make. He probably sat there and giggled each time he ran through those lame ass jokes.
*Locks Blood in a box* Robocop was good for its time. I haven't watched the video personaly but I'll have to see for my self before I agree or disagree with you.

hell yeah robocop was good. But remember how grusome it was I was only like five. Anything with a super hero like character I was gonna watch. Can you imagine if robocop came out today. It would be like PG or some crap like that.
What I was trying to say is content kids view should be the resposibility of the parents not the publisher

Do not link to adult content or to sites that contain information on any type of software piracy.

When I logged on today the First thing I saw was a post by frankie, saying to go check out this cartoon thats funny. upon watching it I see that its not only NOT funny, its full of sex jokes and stupid remarks. It was very adult, and I would hate to walk in on my kid watching that.

No kidding... compared to what you see now on T.V... They show police tapes on Spike! And alot of other stuff like that and its rated +14 o.o scary... But I think if Robocop was continued today they would make it 18A Cause I think they would make it extremely gory... Like AVPR o.o So I don't know what everyone is getting bent outa shape about the animation... (Still haven't watched so don't judge me!! *Runs off crying*) But yeah its the Parents fault... They should be complaining to themselves not the game creators. Read the lable next time you critizizing pricks of parents!! *Shakes fist*

Yeah, what IS the big deal anyways? They have sex on Spike. (They don't show exposed body parts in a show rated 14, but it's evident and clear) I've seen plenty of CSI episodes where they show a couple in bed going at it, albeit without the "inappropriate areas" in plain view, but it's clear what's going on... It's really not even a big deal.

So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

Remember, you have no rights. Bungie can break those rules since they aren't bound to them when they sign up. If it was a moderator, that would be a completely different story.

Play nice!

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

....This has nothing to do with Halo 3 or Halo at all. The game is rated M for mature which means 17+. Anyone under that age shouldn't be playing this game and as a parent you should keep a better eye on your kid.

Yay! In England you're allowed to play when your 15 :P

About the movie, I think the link is kay. As soon as you click that link, nothing mature comes up. As soon as your on that site, Bungies rules are out thie window and Newgrounds rules come into action. Even so, the movie doesn't actually contain any -blam!- (Which is basicly what Bungie meant). Yeh, theres one piece of dialouge (Spelling Error :S) that contains the word 'bone' with an 'r' and a plack silouette of something. *Ahem*. Anyway, you see the guy holding milk so it could've been anything :)

BTW, you should look around Newgrounds, go to the Halo section, they have TONS of funny parodies. There's Something About Halo is probally the best :P

The arguments against the OP are ridiculous.

First of all, this was much more than a minor reference. It was blatantly obvious. Even the worst shows on TV aren't allowed to make those references that obvious. I remember an episode of Family Guy where they were trying to imply that same thing after a man gives a woman a diamond in a fake commercial, with the slogan saying "Diamonds: She'll pretty much have to," and in the director's commentary Seth MacFarlane was saying how they were arguing with the FCC on exactly how many frames of the girl moving down they could show. In the end you wouldn't even be able to tell without the slogan at the end.

Also, it's not about how much kids already know. Sure, most young kids already know about stuff like that. And yes, the parents should be protecting their kids from it. That does not mean that ratings or anything else shouldn't be there. That's just a ridiculous assertion. Content should still be filtered to try and protect children from that kind of thing.

Honestly, I would have been fine with this video if Frankie had suggested that there was some blatant -blam!- themes in the movie. The Halo games are rated mature, but Bungie.net is not. Sure, there's that M sticker at the bottom, but that's not even visible unless you scroll that far down, and that little sticker is there to show Halo's rating, not the rating of the website.
I also think that -blam!- references are worse than violence references to children. Violence has been shown to kids even in shows like "Tom and Jerry" and really don't transmit the urge to commit violent acts oneself. -blam!- references are much worse and just don't do good things to kids' minds.

The point is, the video WAS posted on the front page without any warning (or even a description). Which I don't agree with either.
The argument that it's the problem of Newgrounds because they linked to a neutral content page doesn't fly with me. The video is actually embedded in the page that they linked to, and there's no obvious warning on Newgrounds either. You mean to tell me that Bungie shouldn't have to do anything because the video is on Newgrounds? They still linked to it! People have some sort of strange perception that when a site links a user to a website, it is okay as long as the first page contains no direct explicit content. That's not true. A site who gives links to a page that even indirectly shows content like that (i.e. external links, ads, etc.) should be held responsible for those links. And I know that it's how Bungie monitors links to content. I've seen a few people indirectly link to bad stuff here through an otherwise neutral site and they were treated the same as the people who directly linked to it.

The point is, I don't agree with it, and I don't see how you can argue that it's fine because other forms of media show it and that the parents should take part in censoring their children's material.

So you click a link that leads to a video that has a few bad words and connotations to it. This makes you furious?

If you are going to complain about this and the similar sort, then I suggest you tell your parents about the kind of stuff you undoubtedly watch while they are unaware. It's only just and fair, no?

But of course you wouldn't, 'cause that'd get you into trouble, and not some other person or group that you want to push your own personal responsibility onto, right?

Take care of yourself while you can. If you don't begin taking personal responsibility, then what reason is there for anyone to consider your view point?

And, more on-topic, I didn't find that cartoon funny at all. The animation was good, but the humor was too ... Not my kinda comedy.

Newgrounds, on that page, states that the video is for Mature audiences (17+) and contains "Excessive Violence, Explicit Audio, Mild Adult Themes". If that doesn't raise a flag for those who are truly concerned about/against/for this kind of material, or what it potentially might be, then what should?

  • 12.19.2007 12:59 PM PDT

I had a bigger problem with Frankie telling us the video was funny (when it wasn't), than the content.

Hmm...I do see that now. I didn't before. But I suppose that the placement of that warning brings up a whole different argument that I won't start.

Nor would I, really.

I would say, though, for anyone wanting to argue that the placement of the warning is too small or mis-positioned, it's consistant with all other content-advisories that the site has, or those that I have seen. And to argue that "It's not big enough for the first-time visitors", I would find it quite difficult to agree with someone who said they spent enough time searching for an adisory and they couldn't find it. It's not big, but it ain't invisible either.

What should we give you, if that's not enough?

So you're saying that you think Bungie created this forum to keep HBO from being "contaminated"?

If that's true, you should know better than that. Bungie.net is far older than Halo.Bungie.org. The employees didn't choose for Bungie.net to be regarded as the crap chute it's viewed as by other sites. Blame the members, past and present, for that.
