I disagree. I've never seen something like that on TV (unless you're counting PPV and separately-purchased movie channels).

I guess I should have been a bit more specific. Have you seen some of the humor used on Comedy Central? Sometimes its ok but occasionally it gets a bit to borderlined. Its been a while since I've seen anything on Comedy Central so I'm could wrong about this :P

This thread does not make me happy. At all.

Same. I'm a bit astray on this issue right now, mainly because I never though about such a problem until this topic was posted.
I can understand what both sides are trying to state, but a few people on each side are displaying their opinions rather harsher than what I would have expected to have seen.

Well not that I agree with this thread (because I don't) but you would be surprised at what people complain about. I don't know what the author of this thread was trying to accomplish (maybe just trying to make a point) but I think it has overstayed its welcome.

I am 95% sure if your game doesn't have "-blam!- Themes" or "Mature Humor" you can't add that to the game itself, w/o being sued by angry parents, and angering the ESRB. If something like this had been DLC, there would have been, a big ass problem. You can't add extra stuff.... not already in the content descriptors. ---SNIP

From ESRB.org
Content descriptors provide an additional tool which consumers may use to help them determine if a game is appropriate for members of their family; however they are not intended to be a listing of every type of content one might encounter in the course of playing a game. They are applied within the context of the game's overall content and the rating category assigned, and are there to provide consumers with additional information about elements in a game that may have triggered a particular rating and/or may be of interest or concern relative to the age appropriateness of the rating category assigned.
Yes H3 was rated M for Blood and Gore, Mild Language, and Violence. Does that mean that there are not any "Suggestive Themes"? No "Mature Humor"? No "Tobacco References" ? No "Drug References"? IWHBYD comes to mind

It's the principle of the matter..... it's rated M. M=Mature

You quoted me earlier when I said:
If you are mature you are mature... usually this happens by 17 sometimes earlier. Your parent/guardian can make that call.

Bungie should publicly apologize for this travesty. So I take it since Bungie obviously approves of posting this kind of content on their website, then we can do it too? They are not setting a good example for the world's youth, which is a large portion of their fanbase. I guess in their next article if they post a Meatspin link that's ok too. The line must be drawn here!

Glass Galaxies - a theme for bungie.net

Per audacia ad astra. Halo Reach | Destiny

I'd be happy if, whoever posts a link to that sort of content, in this case Frankie, would add some sort of warning in the same post as the link.

Do not link to adult content or to sites that contain information on any type of software piracy.

When I logged on today the First thing I saw was a post by frankie, saying to go check out this cartoon thats funny. upon watching it I see that its not only NOT funny, its full of sex jokes and stupid remarks. It was very adult, and I would hate to walk in on my kid watching that.

That would be a forum rule.

The video was on the Bungie homepage. Therefore, not bound by the rules of the forum.

Feel free to post whatever you want on the MAIN page.I however, find it rather unlikely you are able to do such. :P

But it doesn't, as Newgrounds is full of that.

1. If your kid is influenced by hearing a swear word he/she is pretty ****ing stupid
2. Even a six year old has heard stuff this before.

The arguments against the OP are ridiculous.

First of all, this was much more than a minor reference. It was blatantly obvious. Even the worst shows on TV aren't allowed to make those references that obvious. I remember an episode of Family Guy where they were trying to imply that same thing after a man gives a woman a diamond in a fake commercial, with the slogan saying "Diamonds: She'll pretty much have to," and in the director's commentary Seth MacFarlane was saying how they were arguing with the FCC on exactly how many frames of the girl moving down they could show. In the end you wouldn't even be able to tell without the slogan at the end.

Also, it's not about how much kids already know. Sure, most young kids already know about stuff like that. And yes, the parents should be protecting their kids from it. That does not mean that ratings or anything else shouldn't be there. That's just a ridiculous assertion. Content should still be filtered to try and protect children from that kind of thing.

Honestly, I would have been fine with this video if Frankie had suggested that there was some blatant -blam!- themes in the movie. The Halo games are rated mature, but Bungie.net is not. Sure, there's that M sticker at the bottom, but that's not even visible unless you scroll that far down, and that little sticker is there to show Halo's rating, not the rating of the website.
I also think that -blam!- references are worse than violence references to children. Violence has been shown to kids even in shows like "Tom and Jerry" and really don't transmit the urge to commit violent acts oneself. -blam!- references are much worse and just don't do good things to kids' minds.

The point is, the video WAS posted on the front page without any warning (or even a description). Which I don't agree with either.
The argument that it's the problem of Newgrounds because they linked to a neutral content page doesn't fly with me. The video is actually embedded in the page that they linked to, and there's no obvious warning on Newgrounds either. You mean to tell me that Bungie shouldn't have to do anything because the video is on Newgrounds? They still linked to it! People have some sort of strange perception that when a site links a user to a website, it is okay as long as the first page contains no direct explicit content. That's not true. A site who gives links to a page that even indirectly shows content like that (i.e. external links, ads, etc.) should be held responsible for those links. And I know that it's how Bungie monitors links to content. I've seen a few people indirectly link to bad stuff here through an otherwise neutral site and they were treated the same as the people who directly linked to it.

The point is, I don't agree with it, and I don't see how you can argue that it's fine because other forms of media show it and that the parents should take part in censoring their children's material.

I completely agree. While the game is M, the site is not (ESRB rates games, not forums). If anyone should know better, its Frankie. Something with the content this video had has no place on the front page of Bungie's website. Try and at least think about the people visiting this place. If its on the front page, ANYONE can see it, not just members or a few select forum goers. Anyone who just felt like browsing one day can click the link and be instantly put off. It should be more representative of Bungie as a whole, and so far this doesn't paint a pretty picture.

So if they are doing it with clothes on, then it isn't adult?

And about the "Bungie's site, Bungie's rules." They broke the very rules they set up. If they don't follow them, what incentive does that give us to? Breaking your own rules just shows that they don't give a damn about the community or how it works.

The Frozen Minority; Bungie's real underground. The oldest members, the deepest controversy, walking infamy.

My word, listen, if you aren't mature enough to view that news story, you aren't mature enough to be a member of the internet.

So clam up and don't draw attention to yourselves, or learn to laugh. Because if there is one thing I hate, it's discussions like these. They make me angry. When I get angry, people lose posting privs. Locked because immature people don't get to discuss immature matters on Bungie.net.
