They said in the forums that all of the origional weapons would be transferred. iwas worried for the AR, too. but it will never go away.
You will always be able to have it in multiplayer, even if it isnt in a mission.

I think the AR should stay as the standard infantry weapon. I mean yes we are at a last stand but UNSC HQ is in Africa. Which means we are poor. Plus having a completley new weapon requires extensive training. and the UNSC just doesnt have that capability. Plus it would put a horrendous strain on all of gun manufacturers as this new weapon would cost a tremendous amount of money. To me it kicks ass, add it in. But only say 1out of 9 marines should have it. Like a specialist with that weapon. That would add a unreal sense of realism to the game. and the AR was extremley good in close quarters it was actually the weapon-of-choice for me in most instances.

For starters the BR is not a new weapon. In the Halo 2 Announcement Trailer the longsword MC arives at Earth in has stockpiles of them and i dont think MC manufactured them on the way.
Secondly POOR???? just because of the geographical location happening to be Africa....i dont know where to start tearing that appart, remember the whole bit about the inter galactic space empire? sound poor to you? As far as we know thats not the UNSC headquarters anyway.

well according to books (so i have heard) the battle rifle is an experimental weapon. it's not that they replace the AR or something. And yeah, i want my AR back in halo 2, even if it's only in multi-player.

I would like it if you could take scope like in some other games that don't come to my mind right now. I would give you the option of either full auto or semi-auto.

I m curious the battle rifle has a scope, with would only make it good at medium to long range, with the dereased firing rate it wouldnt be my choice for close quarters work.

  • 04.15.2004 7:58 AM PDT

Watch the demo again. The ODSTs are clearly firing at a higher rate of fire than the single shots the MC takes.

The battle rifle looks like the new pistol. The SMG looks like the new AR. The pistol wasnt too bad in close quarters combat so i immagine the BR can only be better. Hopefully its aptly named.

The pistols goin back in, bungie said all the old guns are coming back. As far as the AR i mean come on, it had the accuracy of the klob in goldeneye. Im glad they replaced it with something more accurate

Well isn't it most excellent that Bungie have said that every weapon from Halo is returning in Halo 2?

Battle rifle kicks butt, but the AR is whimpy.
AR is an ass saver at times

Hmm and you've had a lot of hands-on time to draw this conclusion? =)

The Battle Rifle OWNS. Can you seriously say that the AR in Halo wasn't wimpy?

I liked the Assault Rifle since it could help you get out off a tight spot quickly, but since in Halo 2 there will be the Battle Rifle which is a souped up version of the AR, and the SMG which is just about the same as the AR but it has a different look, there is really no real point of having the AR in Halo 2. Since the AR has now its superior (the Battle Rifle) and its new and better looking equivalent (the SMG) it basically has been out done.
Unless the Assault Rifle had an overhaul with a better cleaner look, tuned up accuracy, and two different types of bullets; Shredder Rounds and Armour Percing Rounds, I would be happy to have the good ol' MA5B in Halo 2. But other than that it has been rendered obsolete.

The AR and BR do different things. AR is a spray gun no power or anything, while the BR is a scoped pistol. What I want to know is what is the differences between pistol and a BR.
They way you guys talk it sounds like they are taking the AR out of Halo 2 single player. Is that true? The loss of a weapon is like a loss of a familly member, you'll feel a hole in your heart.

face it the ar sucks really bad. its not to bad if you use it on easy or in campain but in multiplayer or harder difficulties it sucks to much for words. I say good ridence plus i'm sick of the old bring in the new. I'm guessing the br might replace the pistol. The pistol was by far the best weapon in halo 1 hands down. I just hope the br is as good so when i slaugter my freinds they won't call me cheap.

I just want alot of great new stuff for halo 2, so i think they should keep the AR. Hey, if you don't like it, don't use it. I think the bigger the selection of weapons, the better.

In with the new, but keep the old.

Just like everything else, the AR had a great number of uses in Halo Multiplayer. Sure, a hog-leg is a better weapon for close range, but you didn't start with one of those, now did you. And, if you play on any level where close quarters skill can heavily sway the outcome, like Chill Out, Chiron, Longest, etc., then you usually had to earn a shotgun. Good teams control the guns that can make a difference. If you have a good dance, and are skilled with the AR, then taking a shotgun from a dead corpse is no real challenge. All you have to do is make your opponent miss a shotgun shot, and he's all yours if you use the AR properly. A good hosin', followed by a nice double-smash from the butt of an AR, and that shiny scattergun is all yours... I will admit that the needler is useless, but that's because you don't start with one. Good AR skills are crucial to good play, simply because you have to use what's available, and a lot of times, the AR is what's in your hands when you (re)spawn.

I don't care that the AR is gone, but i want the pistol back. I loved and used that gun more than any. I like the look and sounds of the BR. I'm glad that gun is in Halo 2. And the needler could help a lot in mulitplayer, just too bad you didn't start with one.
