Just like everything else, the AR had a great number of uses in Halo Multiplayer. Sure, a hog-leg is a better weapon for close range, but you didn't start with one of those, now did you. And, if you play on any level where close quarters skill can heavily sway the outcome, like Chill Out, Chiron, Longest, etc., then you usually had to earn a shotgun. Good teams control the guns that can make a difference. If you have a good dance, and are skilled with the AR, then taking a shotgun from a dead corpse is no real challenge. All you have to do is make your opponent miss a shotgun shot, and he's all yours if you use the AR properly. A good hosin', followed by a nice double-smash from the butt of an AR, and that shiny scattergun is all yours... I will admit that the needler is useless, but that's because you don't start with one. Good AR skills are crucial to good play, simply because you have to use what's available, and a lot of times, the AR is what's in your hands when you (re)spawn.
