If the avatar system could be reliably tied into the Trust Rating, so that a dip below (for example) the Mythic title threshold would result in a change back to a stock avatar... then perhaps.

If that were the case, then a member with a custom avatar would be wise to not risk their trust rating and the additional value that it has added to their account.
If it could be, that would be a perfect set up methinks.

Change Mythic to Legendary and I'm with you. Why spend time implementing a system where only a handful of people can participate? (most of which don't even post anymore).

Agreed. Such titles should be attainable, however, by the average member here rather than only the extraordinarily loyal. It would be completely pointless to make custom avatars available only to Mythic Members as a method of encouraging better posting by the average member, considering that a 6- to 7-year time period in which you must generally be perfect is not much of a motivator for the average teenager who is unable to look that far into the future.

Perhaps Legendary and Mythic status could both have custom avatar privileges. If, that is to say, the custom avatar is meant to be used as a figurative "carrot" to encourage better posting.

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

It would be nice to have additional perks based on you trust level. A custom avatar could just be one of them.

Agreed.

For example (don't know if it is possible) but a Bungie.Net playlist on Halo 3 that was for trusted forum members? Hell, I could even imagine the Bungie guys coming into that mix.
Maybe I could finally get a Linktacular medal that way...

As a side note, I would love to play with some of the Bungie employees and moderating staff. Y'all seem like a pretty cool bunch.

I imagine a playlist like that would be only temporary. Getting enough trusted members together for the matchmaking system to work on a consistent basis would be a tough feat.

They are, right up until the point where Recon commits suicide and TGP betrays you so he can grab the Banshee.
