I bought Halo for the PC yesterday. I installed it without problems. Whenever I load it it says "Halo did not exit correctly". It offers me the option to go to safe mode. I do so. It sits at the menu screen as though nothing were wrong. Then it takes me to the desktop and says "gathering exception data" and after that "Halo encountered a problem and needs to close." Then it closes. It does this every single time except sometimes it excludes the first message and option to use safe mode.
My system specs are
-Radeon 9600xt 128mb
-Athlon xp 2400+ 1.8Ghz(OCed to 2.3Ghz)
-Abit nf7-s mobo with nforce 2 chipset
-512mb ddr400 ram
I have the v1.06 patch and my system is at fine temperatures.
I have tried everything the MS support site said for this problem and nothing worked.
What's wrong?

Hey, how's it going? Well, obviously not well.

As far as your system specs, there aren't any roadblocks or problems that I can see. I'm not very gifted with knowledge of athalon systems, but I know anything above 2 GHz runs Halo without problems. Your memory is good, although you may want to add another 512 just to be sure about next gen games. I have the same video card, and it can pretty much push the game to the max without serious slow downs.

Did you restart after the installation? Most people had the same problem you had and have posted on here, only to find that they simply did not restart after installation. It's critical for your game to function properly - otherwise it's doomed until reinstallation.

If that isn't the case...You haven't played campaign have you? If you don't care about losing save game data, uninstall the game, and make sure you delete the directory if it doesn't. Restart your computer and reinstall it. I'm almost positive that it is a corrupt game file that got messed either in installation or the setup process.

Heyyo,

Have you tried opening the game without patching it first? if not, try so. The new patch is pretty unstable, and tends to crash moreoften than the past ones. Plus, the game was never meant to start off with patch v1.06, so it might be trying to rely on files made when you first start the game, but the new patch fails to create them....

Heyyo,

Heh, np man. Most of the time when I try and troubleshoot probs it's just by self-experience, and just common sense. This time it was common sense. I think that's the most important part in fixin' comps... cause I don't have much school knoweldge yet anyways. :p

Heyyo,

Wait, so after reinstalling it, and running the game while on v1.00 it ran ok the 1st time? is it the 2nd time you try to open it the game crashes?

This problem seems to be coding, you can try M$ tech support and try to get an answer out of them....

Expect quite the wait, I had to wait 3 days for an answer...
