Bare with me. It's an easy wall of text to read.

I am extremely conscious of the rules on these forums. I follow them carefully. I may have had a couple of missteps along the way while learning the process but I pride myself in doing what is asked in the rules of these forums.

Here is my problem: (In a second I’ll explain why it’s a problem.)
One Friday a few weeks ago someone accidentally clicked the ‘New Post’ button instead of the ‘reply’ button. It was clear early on to everyone posting in the thread what mistake had been made.

The thread exploded with multiple pages of responses and had ZERO cruel intention. Everyone was having a light hearted, joking, good time no doubt due to “TGIF”.

After the thread put a smile on my face I couldn’t resist the urge to post, and I quote, “Seriously, how could you not post in this thread?” That was it. End of story. No harm done, move on with my life. The thread received another few pages of replies and everything I saw was very upbeat and joking.

I was blacklisted. “Spamming the forums”.

If anything I would say that the topic needed to be moved to The Flood, but blacklisted? NOT only me, EVERYONE but I think two people in the thread was blacklisted and their comments deleted entirely.

Here is why I’m bothered by it:
I come to this site daily to see thread after thread of excessive bumping, profanity filter bypass, cross-posting and advertising, showing no regard for any of the rules of this forum.

I’ll follow some of them over a few days and NOTHING happens to them. They continue to do as they wish and get away with it while I get the shaft for virtually nothing.

Why am I bothered so much by it? Because I feel as if there is a flag by my name somewhere in Bungie’s community tracking system that flags me as a troublemaker piece of garbage every time I do anything.
______________________________________________

Everyone knows of certain “gifts / awards / recognition” you can receive on this site just by following the rules, …and who knows what Bungie will come out with in the future. Not that the “gifts / awards / recognition” really mean anything in your day to day life, but to now have this “troublemaker” sign over my head really irritates me because I love to get involved in this websites community.

So thank you un-named Mister Moderator for giving me the shaft and letting all of the true troublemakers continue to contribute nothing to this community while showing no regard for the rules.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. After studying this forum and The Flood, my post seemed better suited here in lieu of sandwiched between “Brittany Spears sister is pregnant” and 20 CoD4 threads.

The "real" trouble makers will get theirs in the end. If anything, threads about bad mods will get you in more trouble. Especially because if they wanted to they could file this under "threads about an individual user" and "blogging". I ain't tryin to flame ya, just lettin ya know.

I inadvertently contributed to it. That was not my intention in the least.

Thanks for taking the opportunity to insult me by assuming I'm a loser. "...meet some girls and get laid." You know nothing about me.

Here you go: I'm 26, have a girlfriend and enjoy getting on this site when I am bored at work. Although I hate dealing with people on here that act like dick heads such as yourself.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Sorry for your bad luck, man. This is comparable to getting pulled over when you're going 60 miles an hour down a 55-mph-speed-limit highway and there are hundreds of other people going 80.

And you know what the cop would say if you said "but look at all the other people who are speeding even worse than me"?

He'd say, "Yeah, but I stopped YOU."

I'm not trying to be cold or mean, but I'm just saying that the excuse of "my violation of the rules wasn't that bad" is not the greatest one. Again, I'm sorry for your bad luck -- it has happened to many people here, but that's kinda just the way the cookie crumbles. Don't worry -- I don't think that anybody thinks you're a bad person. Even Qbix :-P

I understand what you are saying and I agree.

It wasn't my intention to contribute to spam but it happened. I understand that.

All I am saying is that it irritates me that I am now more than likely flagged as a troublemaker when I made an unintentional mistake while others are free of such labels even after committing "deadly Bungie forum rule sins".

I got a three day ban for posting that a couple of threads would be locked for all caps and lo and behold they did get locked so haow is my posting that to help inform people of the rules spam? I agree that these forums are cluttered but it does seem the ninjas can be a little harsh sometimes

Making a public spectacle over a blacklisting ignores these guidelines, undermines the process and results in an unpleasant exchange that never works out in the member's favor.

This was not my intention.

I followed the appeal guide to a T, but as it says "4: Don't bother appealing a temp ban."

I did politely ask what I had done. I was given an answer. I didn't realize I had made a mistake and therefore apologized to the Mod for making the mistake.

The only thing I am saying here is that it irritates me that I am labeled poorly now due to an honest mistake. I do my best to be extremely careful of all the rules. It's just frustrating and I apologize if this was the wrong place to post this.

Please Recon, don't try to make my thread out as a complaint. its a suggestion, nothing more.

As for the OP, I wouldn't worry about it, I have been Blacklisted for a Flamewar (By Achronos no less, sort of proud of that fact :) ) but it really had no affect on me. I actually took that time to get my rank in Halo 3 up and meet some new friends and also get some plans to get my Driving license. So blacklisting can actually be a good thing.

lol...once I got a 14-day blacklist for posting in a spam topic...I know EXACTLY how you feel. It seems that the moderators are out to get you and you alone.

BUT...now I know for sure not to post in spam topics...m i rite? Yes I am.

So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

Well, it appears as though you have a problem with a moderator. Now, before I post, I'm just going to say what the best thing to do in this situation is: simply send a Master Forum Ninja (i.e. Recon Number 54, Yoozel, Anton P Nym, etc.) a PM with your qualms, and it will be dealt with appropriately.

Now, on to the real business. What you did, was respond to a thread that was clearly not productive (I think I remember it. It was in the Halo 3 Forum, right?). What you do when you make a post like that, is you bump that thread up to the top. This is irritating because it causes all of the worthwhile threads to be thrown back to page two, where only a few people look. Since the forums move so quickly, this can cause serious problems.

Whether or not people were having fun is not the point. The thread was accidental spam, it was irrelevant and contributed nothing to the community. What you do is report it and leave. You can save yourself and many people a blacklist.

About your situation when you were blacklisted, you can always let someone know that you feel it was unfair. If you read the page that comes up when you're blacklisted, it will say that you shouldn't appeal for 7-day bans, but if you still feel that you have been wronged, then go ahead.

About the "troublemaker" sign, I don't really think that is possible. Yes, there is a trust rating and I'm sure that Achronos can look at it, but I really don't think that your past will affect present bans. A Legendary Member is just as likely to be banned as a regular member. The administration on this site is not elitist, so don't worry about that.

P.S. I would send the moderator who banned you a message asking for an explanation since you didn't mention his name and he won't know to post here or not.

Most of your suggestions of what I should do and what I did wrong have been covered.

Edit:
My concerns with the "troublemaker sign" don't consist of if I could be blacklisted or banned easier than other members.

My concern is that I will not be able to participate in the small "rewards" Bungie gives to those who play nice and participate positively in the community. (I'm not talking about any particular "reward". Just in general. I'm sure there will be other things in the future that they come up with.)

Perhaps the guys who also got blacklisted you just didn't see? Just report those people you see spamming, and justice will be served.

Complaining about it and making ANOTHER thread in the community forum... Ugh. Unproductive.

Not to worry.

While we ninjas do see all members ban/warning history, it is not visible to the public and we are not judgmental pricks.

The Trust system may calculate a value using bans/warnings as one source of input, but Achronos is the only person who see that value. He is not a judgmental prick either.

Lastly, based on his comments (those of Achronos), there is a "half-life" for those values as they influence a member's Trust rating. In other words, the system apparently "dings" for recent behavior, but tends to "forgive and forget" as time goes by.

Bottom line? As always, we ninjas and the members will make our judgments based on what someone says and does, not what they did. At least not solely on what they have done.

Well that is great to hear.

Thanks for the information Recon. You are always very helpful.

Sorry man, it was meant as a joke. A bad one though.
I'm just tired of people complaining about everything on this site, even when they don't really got anything to complain about. It's like children complaining about getting less presents this Christmas than they did the previous one.

One a more serious note though: I'm sorry for offending you, it was never my intention.

No.

This is the most civil and productive thread of all time on Bungie.

Question: I've heard don't appeal temp bans and don't appeal 7-day bans. What i the highest ban you SHOULDN'T appeal.

Probably perma-bans... I doubt you can appeal against those.
