I actually wrote already conserning the Assault Rifle, but decided it should be a topic, so I am re-posting my thoughts on it and I want to know what everyone thinks about it after reading it. Thanks guys.

Assault Rifle:

I have only ever written into a forum twice, but I read them all the time on this greatest game being developed. I will from now on only write when I have to express something I think is important. I know alot of people are complaining about the AR not being in the sequel and people are getting sick of it. But I think it should really be considered by bungie. After looking at the SMG, it seems so small for a machine gun u just want to come in and absolutely pulverise 4 or 5 convenent m.f.'s at once with. Quote that, for real. If u look at any of the screenshots with masterchief holding and aiming the SMG, it looks so small and weak compared to him. I think alot of people will agree. The BR on the other hand looks good but could look better. Plus, its such a single shot rifle type of weapon (even though it has a 3 shot refire rate). It just doesnt have that "rat-tat-tat-tat" kind of effect. It is more a Rainbow Six 3 kind of weapon, a SWAT weapon. I used the AR alot in Halo and sometimes did get sick of it, actually, I got sick of it alot! I wished there was another bad ass marine submachine gun in the game, because I wasnt a huge fan of using plasma "science fiction, lazer guns". I love the "real military, bullet blazing weapons". It gives u a sense of realness and makes u feel like a Rambo type of soldier (Even though the Master Chief is our man, not Sylvester Stallone). Also, using the AR in Halo 2 would be like reuniteng with an old friend or comrade so to speak. Because many of us did become very Attached to it. Shoot, we had to, our lives depended on it. With this AR, we honed our skills over and over and over again for 2 years playing our favourite game, which isnt a game, its an escape from the real world. I wish someone from bungie read my post, because I would hate to get sick of using only one badass machine gun for a huge game like Halo 2 for years to come. Because we all know that this game will be even 10 times more replayable than Halo 1 and I have beaten it 6 times start to finish and I always go back to play selected levels for quick games. Tell me what you think? Also, bots need to be in the game, no question.

Bots:

I love Halo and I am addicted crazily. But the only thing that bothers me is I have only played Multiplayer about 10 times!! I have only played like 4 of the maps!! Not to mention when I have played, its was only with 2 other people on a small-ass screen, not much excitement with only 3 people on a map. Imagin playing on a big screen with up to 10 or 12 elites and MC's! I work full time, have a full time girlfriend, so I dont have much time for friends. And I only have 2 friends with xboxes. Theres's not much time for get together's for a Halo battle because everyone's so busy. Not every Halo lover is 14, at school, no responsibilities and gets the summer holidays to do nothing but hang out with all they friends playing video games all day. So many times I come home at 7pm after a hard days work and just want to play multiplayer. But no one to play with. My other two friends have jobs and responsibilities of they're own, live like an hour away and have families of they're own. I'm a popular guy, always have been. But, when I work 45 hours a week, there's not much time for buming around with friends, I really value my time. Broadband is so expensive for Live (I mite still consider getting it though, eventually) but not everyone has the money, I'm struggling to keeps up with my finances as it is. With bots in multiplayer, it would solve all my problems. A guy from EB games said "they dont even have to be that good, they just have to be THERE!" The xbox live fans dont need to bag the "bots" issue like they have been, they dont have to worry about it! 'Cause they never have to play with bots, it should'nt bother them one bit. They should be on our side cause they know how much we love Halo 2 also. They mite like it in the end anyway and be glad they're there. I love playing Unreal Tournament 2003 with all the bots. Its good for a 20 minute frag fest before I go to bed at nite when my woman's fast asleep. But you know what? Bungie is already considering a way to make multiplayer enjoyable for those without "live" so I'm confident they will tend to our needs. Tell me your thoughts.

Well, we could compare the Assault Rifle to the M-16(the urban one, i think it might be the m-4 i forget), and the SMG to the MP-5.

So I don't really think that the size of it bothers me, it is suppose to be a short range thing so small seems to fit it's size.

On the bot part, even if I am on live, seems like somthing sub-par in such a huge hyped up game would bring it down, although some people are right, it just has to work... and that alone is good practice and such. If they put it in I would probley use it, but I think right now I am voting against it.

BTW, have you ever played a on a LAN with 12+ people? It would be really hard to recreate that feeling... it is oh so sweet.

That was a great post for someone who doesn't do it much, more people should make topics of this caliber.

The Assault Rifle, the MA5B, is nothing like the M-16. The M16 is highly accurate, more like a hunting rifle then it is a machine gun.

The Assault Rifle is more like the AK47 which tosses more bullets with more strength but unlike the AK47 the MA5B doesn't have the power to back it up.

Oddly, the MA5B is mostly like a submachine gun and not like an Assault Rifle at all so I love the new transformation.

Yeah man nice post good statment on your part of the 45hour work week and all. Me I wouldnt mind bots but you do have more fun with killing friends but I myself like playing alongside my friends in a more co-op game and for you atleast the single player is well done each map different area with its own vehicles it dosnt feel like this level was better than the last there each there own. And the #1 thing that kills a game sometimes is other humans with cheats mods hacks and thats the way it is. I say they make the game on 2 discs one is for the single player/Co-op and the other with all the multi that way theres room for bots and all that, but whatever. Only thing I want in 2 is for Co-op to still be in there because me and my brother will never stp playing halo until 2,(if coops in there). But yeah sometimes I dont want to fight humans and take on some bots in the game, like counter strike its a good game and gots really good gun ballistics but I hate fighting people that play it 16hours a day its not even. Halos still going to be good but at times Ill want to play with only my friends so we can play it our way and rules. You cant host a server and tell the other person "hay you mind not using nades all the time maybe only on vehicles?" there going to tell you to go to hell.

i'm not too sure about the validity of need an assault rifle, in single player it's much more usefull than in multiplayer. And even in single player, i'd much rather use
plasma pistol and pistol
plasma pistol and shotgun
plasma pistol and sniper rifle
anything and rocket launcher

as far as effectiveness in single player goes plasma pistol can pretty much bring down everything decently, it's definately not the best at everything, but it's very handy.

grunts - go down quick to pistol head shots, point blank shotgun blasts, full charge plasma shot has a tendancy to make them turn tail and run three more PP shots to the back or a melee will finish them off, sniper rounds IMO are just waisted on grunts.

jackels - they show up frequently enough in many of the levels to want to have a charged plasma pistol shot ready to go very few jackels will continue to fight effectively without their shields.

elites - once again especially against the harder elites in the game the assault rifle just won't do clip goes way to fast, an over charged plasma pistol will bring down their shields and stun them temporarily, long enough to toss a plasma grenade on them at a distance, or switch to any human weapon and finish them off

hunters - pistol or sniper rifle is always the most effective.

flood - shotgun obviously, the pistol is nice when you have some distance between the onslaught and yourself, rocket launcher is great for a swarming crowded group of them, AR if nothing else is available.

sentinals - plasma pistol or shotgun again is the most effective

IMO the assault rifle has one strong point in the game though, against invisible elites in the silent cartographer, and the ones that sneak up on you in the two betrayels, the inaccurate spray makes them easy to spot, and without their sheilds you can mow down 3-5 without reloading.

the AR can be under rated, but with the inclusion of the SMG it becomes redundant, i see what your saying about the size and all, all i gotta say is pick up 2 of em :P
bots should definately be put in playing perfect dark with my bro against a team of 8 darks bots was always fun (if not always succesful)

I totally agree with Mane. I live in Wallowa Oregon about an hour at least from any other kind of civilization and dont have access to broadband. I mean why wouldn't you want bots? Although i agree that battaling against real opponents is way more fun what happens when you can't get on the internet because the phone is busy or someone else is using it. Plus lots of people dont have the money for broadband or Live.

i dont know my guns, but what about an M4...

Or a FAMAS (i might be thinking of the wrong gun altogether with the FAMAS)

Isnt that a good comparison to the AR

Reply to The1Duke:

Dont u think that being able to pick up 2 SMGs is telling us that it isnt really that powerful or "badass" on its own? I mean, imagine using 2 Assault Rifles in Halo 1. It would be way too powerful. Bungie wouldnt let that happen. And after the SMGs, what is there to use (as a Marine machine gun) that enables u to throw grenades, get through 75% of the campain mode in a badass Master chief kind of way like we did with lik the AR in Halo? Using just 1 SMG isn't going to be as powerful as the AR was mid range, even though it wasnt that accurate. But then again that's the great balancing that Bungie used in the game. I'm just saying that the Battle Rifle shouldnt be the "main" weapon like the AR was and I hope this isnt what Bungie are trying to do. Imagine hearing that 3 shots, pause, 3 shots, pause, 3 shots, pause over and over and over again for most of the long campain mode. Not to mention, scoping all the time. Its a great weapon no doubt for a change to mix it up. But not as the marines' or Master Chief's signature weapon. I want another machine gun like the M-16 or even a powerful UZI. Something tells me that Bungie are going to surprise us with the main weapon last minute before release. They will have a huge surprise. Also, they'd probably be itching for a new weapon as it is, seeing that they've been playing the game for a good year now.

I can only think of one reason to keep the AR. That reason is when you think of Halo, you see John, and John classically holds the Assault Rifle, it is the sterotypical Human weapon, and to be honest I like the design, even if it isn't a very good weapon combat-wise.

It's a classic weapon that helped you through your newbie days and even probably saved your life once or twice as a more experienced player. Each weapon has its purpose, and the SMG is honestly too pansy for a guy like MC to use.

Keep the AR damnit! Don't bury our Halo roots with a pathetic tiny replacement for it!

(Note: I'm not an Assault Rifle enthusiast, I just believe in remembering our Halo roots.)

Man Kulatu!! U said exactly what I should have added. It is so true. How can u have Halo 2 without that classic "60" in blue on the AR bobbing up and down as you walk? Plus, all the marines carried that weapon. So what now, we go down to earth and it just MAGICALLY disappears. You're right Kulatu mane, it needs to stay for sure!!

How about we start like a patition or something? We need to get people behind us so Bungie realise this. People may realise just how important it is to keep the AR. It's like they've forgotten it or something. I mean, yeah we get new weapons, but when they get old after the first few levels, we're going to realise that the AR is missing. Tell me what you or anybody else thinks about it and if yall want to start a "thang" for the Assault Rifle to make its much realistic return in Halo 2.

I think they should power-up the assault rifle and put it in. They should make so its like this so that it balances:

SMG alone is weaker than AR alone
Dual SMGS is stronger than AR alone

you would have to think: "Do i pick up the SMG so I can dual wield for powerful results? or do I use the slighty more powerful AR when alone with some grenades on the side?"

I loved the assault rifle and although I think the SMGs would rock, I'd also like to use that classic weapon. Its like the mascot weapon so it needs to be in...

To be honest i thought the smg looked rather large, when my friend first saw it he thought it was the new shotgun design, he doesnt follow halo 2, so he didnt know.

The SMG does look big when the stocks out (see wortwororthog for proof) but without the stock it looks quite small.
