Hey guys,

This is my first post here, I'll try to make it a good one.

As I hope all of you would know, majority of Asia has been hit by a huge tidal wave caused by an earthquake in Indian ocean, the tectonic plates have raised by over 30 metres (100 feet).

The whole american world stopped when 12 children were shot in Columbine. 12 children!

The whole world stopped and gave aid to America when the two passenger air crafts crashed into the twin towers killing almost 3000 people.

Wouldn't only be fair to stop all new years celibrations thru out the world in sympathy of those 100 thousand people who have died and the complete cities, COUNTRIES that have been destroyed?

As much as I would want too goto new years celebrations, I feel some guilt aswell.

Opinions?

The world needs something to be happy about. Then the people of asia would proberly think it was their fault or somthing. Happiness is the best treatment. This was my most meaning ful post yet..

People care less because they don't have something or someone to blame or hate because of this.

New years Celebrations should not be stopped because of this, life has to keep on going. I'm Australian, and some Australians were killed in the Tsunamis seeming those resorts were Aussie favourites. We should not try and stop the ball from rolling. But nethier should forget.

Kendoboy: I've donated as much money as I could afford to charity for helping those really in need in Asia.

The whole entire world stopped right in its track's when around 3000 people died in the WTC incident.

How is 3000 people dying worse than over 100 thousand people dying and homes and cities destroyed! Asia is a place that is very short for cash, this disaster absoloutly kills their economy making very hard for them ever to be the same again.

This is only the start, usually after such a disaster, usually another 75% of the names on the original death list is added on due to death by diseases' and lack of food.

Kendoboy, its not about the Aid, its about the respect!

If every city in the world just had one minutes silence just before the fireworks in rememberance for those who have died in the massive Tsunami that hit Asia would be more than enough.

EDIT:

KayJay: Ignorance in such a thing does not create happiness, it creates guilt, nothing more.

Tanikaze: No one to blame? You could blame all the war and poverty happening withen Asia costing them a huge amount of money, this money which could of been used to help for Tsunami detection.

It's not like it was Earquake then bam! Tsunami instantly, there was a large delay.

I am an Australian aswell, I live in Brisbane, and I have plans for New Years at Southbank.

How is it any different from the Columbine school shootings, or September 11th?

See, I never donate money to big stuff like this. I leave my money for the hobo in the dumpster at Ralph's and the sick kids in the hospital. I don't know why.

Not the economical view of it.

They had signs everwhere saying "God bless America" shops were closed, and I remember a few good Celebrations, stopped.

1 minutes silence is all it takes.

It's not about the economy, its about the respect.

Is one minutes silence too much for all those who were killed in Asia, with many more deaths to come.

Whole entire cities and provences are destroyed.

It will take them YEARS to rebuild it.

How can almost 3000 deaths get more respect than over 100 thousand and still counting and cities being destroyed?

For the reason I mentioned above.

No offence _Kung, but you are in poor taste. Yes, everyone was in shock because of the events of 9/11, but the whole world didn't stop, especially those of us in America. But I am not here to get into a political discussion.

If you want to help, make a donation at The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

dmbfan09: You havn't read the whole thread in depth havn't you?

Its not about helping, its about respecting those who have died.

There has been no sign of any silence, or any kind of mark of respect that is going to happen anytime soon.

After 9/11 the world almost seemed it were in a depression.

EDIT:

Kendoboy: But almost 3000 would?

I dont think people are relising the true devestation that happened in Asia.

How could 1 minutes silence before the fireworks on new years be too much for over 100,000 humans dying while 3000 is?

No it didn't. You're a little too idealistic.

You could be late. Anyhow, since you've cleared that up(sort of), I've got one rebuttal. Unfortunately, it's been used before by myself on multiple occasions. Oh well.

In the land of the not-quite-relevant, a rebuttal doesn't need to have anything to do with the opposing argument.

Its not about helping, its about respecting those who have died.

Without help, thousands more will still die. How about we respect those who are still living first.

dmbfan09: The aid is fine, I'm not complaing about it, and I'm not saying it should be stopped.

Aid and respect are linked, agreed. Just the thought of being able to party all night with not one short minute of rememberance for those who have died and those who havn't lived to Par-Tay as hard as you are is sickening and heartless.

Anyone and everyone can give money for the sake of giving money, but the true motive behind that motive is what counts.

First of Kung -- Bravo on a well meaning post. But the reason it seems to be different for the 300 in the WTC as opposed to the Tsunami, is because the Tsunami was a natural event. It's tragic, but it's not anybody's fault. You take those kind of risks when you live there, just like people in California take a risk living in an earthquake zone, and people in Florida take a risk living in a Hurricane zone.

Things were somebodys fault in the WTC incident. And in Columbine --

You can expect me to feel pity for them, it was tragic. But it was nobody's fault and there's no reason to feel guilty. That's the breaks when you live near a tectonic coastline.

GameJunkieJim: Thanks for posting something progressive.

If you really want to get into extreme detail, I'm sure there would be someone to blame for the sheer devistation of the attack due to incertainty of such a disaster too happen.

I could bring religion into this, but I think ill pass, not until i've been here a bit longer.

I know I cant really expect much, but I surely do hope that do atleast mention the tragedy for rememberance sake.

Thank you.

EDIT:

Tanikaze, if you did say what GameJunkieJim said above then I appoligize for misunderstanding,
