Subject: Why not let us decide?

Alright, Bungie is constantly working on, editing, updating their game to make it better than what is was before.

But pretty much every time something happens, everyone is suggesting that Bungie should have done something otherwise. So, why not let us decide?

Before you update something, edit something or even add something new...Bungie could host a poll.

Example: A few days before THC was put into MM, Bungie could have asked these simple questions-

Do you want to see your teammates in your radar?
Do you want no radar at all?

Do you want equipment?
Do you not want equipment?

So and and so forth.

Or before the Mauler situation was changed-

Do you want less Maulers in MM?
Or do you want to keep it the same?

Because personally, everyone was -blam!-ing about the Mauler / Melee combo, not the number of them. I think your choice of a quick fix was not the best way to handle the situation. The least you could have done was address what you were planning on doing and then looking at the community's response to the plan for the reduction of Maulers in MM.

----------------------

I know Bungie is always looking for ways to make their game better, they are always listening to our ideas and most of the times, changing those. (Adding THC which was demanded by everyone, etc...), but why not fix the problem, BEFORE it happens. Ask what the community wants, and then make your updates based of that.

Right now, you are altering the game based on people's reactions to the updates, not updating the game based on what we want. Based on what your fans want. Personally I think that's doing it backwards, which only causes more stress for you at Bungie.

I hope you consider this, thanks for reading.

Because, overall it's Bungie's game. If they want to make play lists that include all the new stuff they worked tirelessly to add to the game before it released, then that's completely up to them. If they feel like making a bland, BR only game type with no radar or any of their new equipment, they will. But it seems like such a waste if they're going to play what would be the equivalent of Halo 1.

Erm, not everyone wants what you want. There are actually very few people complaining about the Montion Sensor and Equipment. The motion sensor is useful because it is much easier to coordinate with your team, which is what THC is all about. Actually the main complaint was the ammount of maulers on some maps, so they did actually fix that, but you always have people complaining no matter what you do.

Not a poll like,

Do you want THC?
Do you not want THC?

That is way to vague and it puts too much responsibility to the few people who visit these forums versus the entire Halo community.

I agree with you that it's Bungie's game and they will add what they want, but re-read my post. Doesn't it seem that they are fixing a lot of things based on the community's responses? I'm willing to bet you that in the future, the Tripmine is going to be fixed based on the Tripmine thread in the Halo 3 forum.

So why not poll for minor things. The things that Bungie are changing based on our reactions to the game and to the updates. Once again, fix the problem, before the problem happens.

I think they do listen, more so than any other companies. Even minor changes need checks and re-checks so not to make other parts of the play bad. They know and the gameplay will always change and evolve. As for polls to decide exactly what should be done, and what everybody likes, it's a good idea for fan satisfaction sakes, but I think the polling majorities could also be wrong.

Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Why don't they ask us?!

Do you always inquire about what clothes you want to wear? Do you ask other people if the food you eat is what they think you should be eating? Do you often beseech other people if the music you are listening to meets their standards?

Bungie doesn't ask because they shouldn't. Halo 3 is their game, not ours. We don't pick and choose what we want, we vote with our wallets after the game's been made.

That's a rather naïve view, I think. They don't just do whatever the hell they like because we've already bought the game... At least, I would hope, because they like their fans and at worst because how they handle us now will affect future sales of new games. [:

Personally I like most of the decisions made... the reduction in Maulers was a godsend, I prefer it to any fix to the way it works. Guardian is now habitable again! The team-mates on your radar thing, I played a few customs like that and it is really confusing. I can see the benefits though, teamwork and strategy will be easier if you know where your team-mates are and over Live that's a workable solution. It just remains to be seen whether it's worth getting used to or not, now.

You just repeated littlerat's post, saying the same thing. I KNOW its Bungie's game. I don't expect them to ask us how their next game will end or if the main character will die, which is what you all seem to think I'm suggesting.

No offense, but your examples were poor. My clothes that I wear, or the food that I eat have no interaction with other people, moreover, people aren't buying the clothes that I wear and the food that I eat, to wear and eat it themselves.

If I was a Chef, I would want the suggestions from my consumers on what they would like and more suggestions after the product is made to make it better. Yes, I already stated that Bungie is ALWAYS listening to the community and updating their game based off of those suggestions, but why not cut out the middleman sort-of-speak and make it easier on them. Let them know what we want before they update the little things.

Actually we did have a say in it, in the Optimatch forum they were discussing it for months with ferrex (Lead MP designer)

People didn't want the friendlies radar but they decided to put it in anyway... along with vehicles... and large maps... *facepalm*

That friendlies radar drives me nuts. False sense of security for the lose.

.

This is a very shortsighted view on matchmaking updates. B.net's population is probably less than 5% of the entire Halo online population. So changing matchmaking parameters voted on by a very small percentage of the actual Halo population is not fair to the other 95% of players who don't frequent this forum.

The changes taked into account data received back from the ENTIRE online population. Why did VIP and shotty/snipers get reduced or removed from matchmaking? Because the stats show that the majority of people veto these gametypes. That's fair and accurate, not asking the few to decide the fate of the many.

Stop sending me group invites -blam!-s!

If Bungie let us decide then we would have "Dewl welding sordz" and I don't want 12 year olds deciding what should be changed.

Sometimes the general public doesn't know what is wants. It may work fine in their head, but implemented in MM it's a disaster. It's like a 5 year old kid trying to pick up what clothes to wear everyday. In his mind green pants with a bright orange shirt looks fine, but adults know this doesn't match and looks ridiculous. The same logic applies here.

We gather feedback. But that's only part of the story. We also have to base our decisions on available data from the game (like veto stats, custom games being played, weapon heat maps, etc). Remember, the forums are a vocal minority of the people who play the game. Listening to only the group think present here is unwise. To be sure, there are lots of valuable insights present here, but at the same time, there are a lot of bad ideas too. Focusing too much on just this forum's feedback gives us things like Rumble Hardcore - a Halo 2 playlist that people played less than Team Tactical.

I think it's a blessing.

Because "us" are unable to agree on anything.

Hmmm...well said. I suppose I didn't look at it as a matter of 'agreeing upon something' rather then just simple voting, and the majority wins...on simple issues.

Yes, let the people decide! Bungie claims that the fans are important to them, let us see them put their money where their mouth is! The people must decide Bungie's course of action. Only then will Bungie truly prove that it cares about its fans.
