How about a mode where all the players would be on one team, and they would have to defend a hill and prevent enemies from reaching it. You could pick whatever enemies you wanted. First, only one enemy would attack, then it would add one each round (you could of course change these number), and you would try to see how many rounds you could survive.

Sounds fun to me, good for a sniper map...

Ya, kinda like in Unreal Tournament 2004. That would be sweet. I REALLY hope they have something like that.

First of all, welcome to the forums, Second, this has been posted before, I know, because I posted it! Third, it'd be like a survival mode, where you are on top of a base, ia building in the middle has an unlimited suply of weapons,. ammo, and health. One each corner of the base there are minigun turrets, you have to defend the base from wave after wave of Covies, it'd be tight

Sounds fun... but I would end up killing myself with kamakazie tactics.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

Here you go!! <-- That's a link. And HBO is down.. Ughh.. Too bad.

Try to take notice of how quickly you become bored.. Don't get me wrong.. It would be awesome.. but after a while, you'd just be doing the same stuff over and over.. You and your team would fight for 30 minutes, kill blank # of enemies.. Then start over. You would have to replay the first 15 minutes again to make it to 16 minutes in.. Then you'd have to play another 14 minutes of the same stuff just to get back to the 30 minute time limit with blank number of enemies killed.. Then you'd have to start over and go through the same stuff ONCE AGAIN.. Just to try and top your score and stat sheet. THEY MIGHT AS WELL JUST HAVE ONLINE COOP WITH A FREAKING SCOREBOARD AND STAT SHEET.

Scratch rockets, energy sword, health packs and anything else suicidal.

Instead of defending a hill, what about if it was a huge man hunt of any kind of covenant chasing you down in a level and you have to find the weapons you need, or if you had to get somewhere through a thousand covenant to a ship or something and you could have vehicles and crap...

Sorry if this was in the link, it wasn't working for me.

It'd still be awsome fun. Everytime I get a PC game with an editor, I make levels that do the exact thing, and they're always tonnes of fun.

i'd change it just a little like have it like starship troppers were you're in a little base and have thousands of Grunts or something just keep attacking untill you die or only have it as one hundred grunts and you have to kill them all and you'd have turrets and all to kill em with.

Louis needs to get his forums up and running. It's a link to a minigame brought to us by BOLL. It's a simple flash game where you fight off what seems to be an infinite number of Grunts with the warthog's LAAG. It's awesome, but yet so boring. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that this same mode, presented properly in Halo 2 would be just as boring, but it would, and could, get to that point if done completely wrong. So far, based on all the suggestions I've seen on these "Grinder" modes, it would be boring.

If they added hidden characters that were in Halo 3, then it could be .01% cool. Like say, if you and your unit made it to 1 million KIA's, then the next character would spawn down from a Covenant ship, and it would be a secret Halo 3 character!!! OMG!!

btw, I like your idea about "defending" stuff. In Halo, it seems like we were always on the offensive.. I'd like to take a stab at defending a hill, prophet (?), artifact, human jackass named twelve large, or the space station that the Covenant are trying to capture.. lol

I hope bungie is trying to increase the epic nature.. That linear point 'a' to point 'b' stuff will no longer cut the mustard.. Anyone seen the xfactor vid?

So, could you elaborate on this Grunt Siege, Commander Andy? Pick whatever enemies you wanted? Would it just be Covenant and Flood? Or could you mix the two? Or maybe just pick Gold Elites?

What if we made it to round 50? Would the framerate drop to zero? j/k.. But why would I keep playing? What type of reaction would you be looking for from gamers that played this game mode?

I'd look for an "OMG.. We just got our asses kicked!!.. But I can't wait to see what happens next!! Let's play again.. " That type of reaction.. How could I make that happen with a Grinder mode? I never got that reaction from playing any other Grinder type game.. I usually know what happens next.. but that's usually to be expected when there's an end.. Without an ending.. Anything could happen next.

Hmm, I'd definatly enjoy this difficulty mode. Maybe an entire wave of gold elites? Half with swords, half without?

What I would like is a small fortification / hut to defend, along with a few different mounted guns and weapons. It is overlooking a beach and heaps of grunts just keep coming. So much that, they eventually get past your onslaught. They go around the back way and try to breach the door. There is a ramp with a blast door leading down to the front of the beach. There is also a single warthog. Your escape vehicle. You head off left and get away from the grunties. But then heaps of hunters have just been deployed and are about to fire when you have to run them all over. You see another fortification / hut and head over. You open the door. It is packed with enemies, you dive and pick up a flame thrower turning around to see piles of smoking grunts and elites. Then you call for evac. A pelican comes in with the chain gun ablaze you hop in the back and mount the RPG / .50 cal. The pelican keeps circling until the enemies are toast, you pick up the warthog and head home. Lame? It would be cool if there was a vey small island just off the beach. Player two has a sniper rifle and can see all thats going on. They can pick off foes but will risk giving away their position to banshees. If you still dont like this idea you could have a 4 player game with 2 rocket jockeys on a cliff somewhere. Cool idea? Have I wrecked you expectations of the best game in the universe?

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

What if you and your unit had access to Sketch Factors gun at 2000 kia's? pfftt..

In case you didn't know, this gun would shoot out infection life forms across the map that would attack the covenant and kick their ass.. But then they'd come after you.. damn.. hmm.. Okay, then you and your team jump in a hog and let them chase after you all the way to the Covenant spawn point, like a bunch of energy beems the Covenant use to beam down from their spaceships.. Then, if you make it long enough.. You could have access to one of the ships.. Just teleport up ..and fight through the ship.. Then you find out that the ship has arrived at another location.. And you have to beam down to another map and fight off another group of baddies.. I don't know..

What if it was kind of story based, action based, enviornmental destructive based, ..If you can get a reaction like an "omg, I want to play that mode again just to see what happens next!!", then you'd have a kick ass game mode, imo. Now you just have go in reverse and see how you could get that reaction.

It sounds like a campaign/story mode. lol I've just seen these guys like x9one9x pimpin' this grinder mode.. And I thought I try to add some flavor the usual Grinder mode.. It would be very repetitive in that you would have to start over from scratch every time you died.. But the fun would lie in the fact that anything could happen next.. If you were willing to sit there and play for hours.. And keep on pushing to make it further into a never ending game.. lol

It's relatively the same idea as "Starship Troopers" from StarCraft (which I enjoyed). I think there is certainly some undisputable potential in the idea, but without perfect execution, I agree that the game would become rather tedious and monotonous.
