Subject: Building a better Bungie.net member

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I think whipping them is a good start.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

He hasn't. You're both completely off the mark. The most memorable members are those who made utter tits of themselves, such as Twitch and Toast.
I think elmicker hit the nail on the head here. :)

That fact that everyone knows who Pillage is is evident of that. Memorable members are the ones who are unique. That doesn't make them good or constructive, just memorable.

Who exactly is Pillage? I've heard of him, but I've no clue who he is.

As for what makes a good member?

Constructive posting.

It doesnt matter if it's a positive post, or a ridiculously blatant troll, if the post is done in a constructive, logical manner, it promotes constructive and logical responses. Not posting or non-constructive posts are what makes a bad member.
Ahh not always true. See I count Twitch and Toast as some of the best members this site has ever had. Simply because they changed this place. That's why they are memorable and that's also why they're good.

They might have caused some trouble but you can be sure they made this place more fun than the members who just post boring suggestions in the Septagon.

Who are you talking about when you say "...Twitch and Toast..."? I think I know the latter (but I don't know what he did), but I have never heard of the former.

because if seeing is believing,
then believe that we have lost our eyes

I think by not spamming and being a bad member automatically makes you a good/posotive member. It's a if you're not on one side, you're automatically on the other situation IMO. There's no neutral party.

But to be a legendary member, I think that involves more community input, which I never have time for.

Its hard to add to this, everyone has summed it up pretty well. Showing all around maturity def. stands out to me, someone who can accept criticism in a positive way, has constructive views, contributes daily etc. I dont even acknowledge "in before the lock" posts anymore, and " yay i has 1st page" posts are beyond rediculous. Some members just stand out more than others, like ghandi or foman. And its not just because of the Foman Tower either

I for whatever reason read that in an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent.

As for your question, Twitch was a real character. He really did add a lot of life to this website with his very thoughtful (if not completely atrocious or otherwise) posts.

Toast is now a retired moderator.
Because I'm too lazy to type, I'm just saying that those two members added a lot of color and life to these forums.

I guess I did too. Anyone care to elaborate?

As to the question, I think the ideal member (and I'm sure he'll be hesitant towards admitting this) would be x Foman123 x. He's a great thinker, and one of the best posters the community has. He posts nothing but wisdom, respect with occassional humor.

The most important qualities to a member would definetly have to be someone who can play devils advocate, post intelligently, be respectful, have a sense of humor and one who reads others posts. Nothing makes me more mad then creating a well thought out post just to see it completely ignored. Someone who not only puts out, but receives (there's that humor I was talking about) can be an equilizer and essential member to the community.

Be nice and kind to fellow Bnet members, even when they flame you. I do that. It takes restraint, but it feels good once I reported them and see them removed from my threads! =]

Do that, and your a good member.

You're right, if by "ideal" you mean "Horribly long-winded and offensively knowledged".

Purpose.

The most memorable members were doing something bigger with their time than just firing opinions. Whether hat be a goal to improve the community, enlighten the newer members or even destroy the place - the memorable members had a bigger goal.
People who destroy the place? Tell me more lol.

In regards to the topic, there is no perfect member. Everyone makes mistakes. Some people write 3 pages when things can be summed up in a few words, others just post "tits" and giggle like school boys. Even the webmaster wears a gorilla suit for heavens sake!

Respect seems to run in short supply often over on the H3 forum. It baffles (and worries) me how someone would set up a thread to stimulate conversation but publicly destroys anyone who disagrees with him/her. Having an opinion is great but just going around looking for someone to start on is a daft waste of time.

I really miss reading Ojjoopggjjpp's posts. Er... or whatever his name was. You know the one. Opjooogjip.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Now I know he has gone a bit off lately and is waiting to make his return, but I feel Impy is a great member. I have seen some of the most original topics ever come out of him. If I had the link I would show you the M&M thread. All his threads and posts seem to stand out amongst the rest of the "post your fav" threads in the Flood. Also he tends to be pretty well loved by a great many people in the community.

I know I am waiting with anticipation at the return of the Dinosaur.

I like impy because even when he was a mod he had a little troll in him, and I mean that in a good way. If there ever was a member who's name personified his personality, it's impy.

A good B.net member IMO is someone who creates memorable threads and posts, and isn't afaid to push the boundries a little. Someone who puts a smile on your face, causes you to laugh or sometimes even changes your opinion.

Anyone can be a model forum member..........telling people where to post, how to post and stand in a straight line. But the truly great forum members are the ones who impact our days with something they wrote.

All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.
