With a gun lowered, He can probably run somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 mph. I read it somewhere on the Bungie Site.

The engineering Power suits which is almost staionary can make a normal human run up to 30kph and lift up to 5 to 10 tons. So the MC can run maybe over 45kph,and lift a whole lot more than this.

P.S. Think about how fast Kelly can run.

Page 73 of The Fall of Reach.. Mendez speaking to Dr. Halsey.

"Your Spartans can run at bursts of up to fifty-five KPH," he explained. "Kelly can run a little faster, I think. They will only get quicker as they adjust to the 'alterations' we've made to their bodies. They can lift three times their body weight--which, I might add, is almost double the norm (it says later he weighs about 120kgs.) due to their increased muscle density. And they can virtually see in the dark."

So that's before they're completely used to their enhancements, and most notably, before they get their suits.. which it says roughly doubles their strength.

Actually, those MJOLNIR suits slow them down. you're are talking a half ton of armor and circuitry plus the weight the SPARTAN in the suit. Im guessing around 1250 pounds. maybe more. Even if there is actuated (small motors at the joints in the suit) assistance theres still a limit with all that metal and bulk. Of course it looks like the Chief runs so slow in the game because of a number of things but according to the Fall of Reach, the chief broke his ankle and has numerous injuries else where. Although i really dont know if thats one of the reasons why he actually does run slow in the game but again i think he runs at just the right speed.

Where does it say that? I'm not doubting your logic.. but I had no indication of that whilst reading the book. However it doesn't directly reference their running speed.. merely their reaction times. While they say the armor + spartan weighs a little under half (edit: orginally i said a ton.. i was wrong) a ton.. my impression is that the suits hold themselves up.. the spartans don't feel the weight at all.. in fact it makes them stronger, so I have no reason to doubt it makes them run faster, too.
Actually, I just thought of a part of the book which is relevant to the fact. When he gets the upgraded armor with shields, and has just narrowly avoided the missile (awesome visuals at this point of the book) it says..

"He could feel his Achillies tendon tear, but he didn't slow. He crossed the half-kilometer stretch in seventeen seconds flat and skidded to a halt."

Now, I'm really bad at math, and to be honest.. am just too lazy to work out how fast that is.. but that's extremely fast. Maybe someone else could figure it out. Please? When I was in school I did 100 metres in 13 seconds.. 500 in 17 is quite something.

Okay, anyway, at this point I'm taking the book way too literally. The sprinting feature in Halo 2 is going to be awesome, there's so many parts of Halo I wish I could sprint to close distance, or get out of a bad situation fast.. or hell just walk from one part of the map to the next.

B.W.O FTW

it cant be faster that 55mph because thats how fast the warthog goes at top speed, and since you can run over someone running at full speed easly then he prbly runs 20 mph in the game

Converting 34 sec to run a Kilometer times 1.6 gives 54.4 seconds to run a mile; 3600 seconds per hour divided by 54.4 seconds gives 66.18 MPH (although his top speed would be faster, since this is the average speed from dead standstill until the end of 500 meters).

You're right about the power of the MJOLNIR more than making up for its weight.

You can find out how fast Chief runs in Halo 1 by starting up an oddball game on Sidewinder (a flat surface on the ground, unlike Blood Gulch) that has the blue objective indicator with distance to object indicator on. Then place the skull 1 Kilometer (that's the units they use, if I remember) from you and time your run towards it. Conversion factor from Kilometers to Miles is 1.6 (1.6 kilometers equals 1 mile). I think I read it's 15 MPH in the game.

hunter77th, wrong, all wrong. the MJOLNIR SPARTAN battle suit is about a half a ton according to the book first strike, or 1000 pounds. the MCF ways about 120, so it would be about....1120 pounds. but even with the armor on, the armor feels like its as lite as a silk robe to the operator of the suit when activated of course. he can run up to about 27 mph, like i said according to the book, the first strike.

Before you go correcting people, make sure you're correct yourself. A ton isn't 1,000 pounds.

Argh! Metric system, people. I like that the book and the game use the metric system.. if not for realism, just because it's easier for me to understand.

A related fact: 1 kilogram is equal to 2.2 pounds.

I can't even imagine where that warthog speed thing comes from. Figure it out with the sniper rifle and a straight piece of land? Not a bad idea, actually... if you're really bored.

Oh, yeah, that would probably be easier: sight a target on the ground @ 1 kilometer in Sidewinder, then run and time it. I forgot there is targeting data in the scope when you snipe and have one sighted (not that I ever use the data, but it's a cool detail).

There's 3 Halo books at present. A prequel to Halo, called The Fall of Reach.. a book about the story of the game, called The Flood.. and a book that takes place between Halo and Halo 2 called First Strike. I only bought FoR and FS.. I didn't see the point in buying a book about the story of a game I already have.. but from what I've seen other people say about it, it seems worth buying too.You have to buy them seperately unfortunately.. but they seem like really good books with lots of insight into the story of Halo. They're only about 7 US dollars each... I wasn't able to find them in Denmark, but they're available from Amazon in Germany if you're willing to buy things online.

Unfortunately the target details are only in Single Player though, aren't they? So your original idea was a better one.
By the way, thank you for taking the time earlier to do the calculation. I meant to say thanks before but I forgot your name and I was just replying to the bottom post.. heh.

That Mjolnir armor makes their reflects faster. So they could take off faster than when they have it off. Signing off.
