There are too many exceptions to the rule for something like this to be fair here. If double posting were to be prevented, then many of the current stickies could not exist, nor could many of the fan fictions or generally longer posts.
Double posting should be dealt with the way it always is -- Report it.
I agree. It's similar to all these changes people want made to Halo 3. Sure they could satisfy a select group of people, but changing the operation of things will most likely piss other people off. However, I was just siting here thinking and weighing the negatives of both sides.
On one hand, leaving it like it is now will require newbies to the website to read stickies, which not many people care to do. I would consider myself a newbies to B-Net, but not by any means a Halo newbie. Still, I've been a member long enough to see how things are run and gain a general understanding of the basic rules of the community. The problem exists when people do not read stickies. Sure, keeping it the way it is now puts the responsibility and the consequences in the hands of the community members, however disabling them from making decisions they will try to "justify" later on may save them the embarrassment and frustration of a 3-day ban for something so many people get away with on a daily basis. It also saves moderators the hastle of having to shell out 3 day bans as fast as Angelina Jolie adopts children. I should throw in "selectively" banning, not by their intentions, but as a result of not being able to read every thread on the website and see every instance of when someone may bump. I may bump and get away with it while someone bumps right after me and gets a 3-day ban. I'm not campaigning for this change, just opening it up for debate. This has been a look at side A.
On the other hand, like Foman was saying, situations may exist where making this change just doesn't agree with the masses. I am sure community moderators and Bungie employees would be able to get around this somehow (correct me if I am wrong... I'm am not sure how the change/coding would be done), although I haven't seen many situations where moderators and Bungie employees have had to post more than one time in a row. From what I have seen, they usually quote multiple sources within the same post. Honestly, I am looking for feedback in this section. What are some situations where making this change may have a negative impact? I just can't think of many/any.
EDIT: However, with regards to your last statement about stickies, fan fictions and longer posts, isn't bumping considered bumping no matter how the "bumper" tries to justify it? I mean if the topic is interesting enough to keep it discussed, users interested in it will save it in their favorite threads and keep it up at the top of the forum with good feedback and contributions to the topic. Just a thought. What are some examples of what you are talking about? Perhaps I just don't understand. Thanks.
