Search for spyware(or Spybot?) Search and destroy. It is a good free program that got rid of 13000 spybots on my old comp.

Get the following programs(links provided):
HiJack This
SpyBot: Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware

Then reboot your computer, and as soon as it begins to start up, hit F8. You may have to hit it repeatedly. A menu should come up asking you which mode you want to start in. Choose "Safe Mode". This means the operating system will only load what it needs, so the screen may look different because the video card drivers aren't loaded.

Run HiJack This, and select programs that look suspicious(it's a list of all programs that start when you boot up your computer normally) by looking at their "program path". For instance, you may want to keep something from \Program Files\Symantec, but not something from \Program Files\SearchBar_404\. Then click "Fix". Don't worry, it is possible to select every item on that list and click fix and your computer won't be damaged, but you may have programs you want to have start up.

After this, it is smooth sailing. Run SpyBot and Ad-Aware, then reboot your computer without hitting F8. It'll boot into normal mode, spyware free. I've never witnessed a piece of spyware, no matter how terrible or vicious, get past this.

If you have a suspicious EXE, I'd run a virus scanner.
