We really don't need these ranks, and they really have no significance at all, but it is fun to watch yourself rank up and get new titles. Also, it is a treat for respected members to gain high member status such as Legendary and Mythic. Also, thre prefixes are just for recognizing certain aspects of a members trust and other such actions...

Sup, rokker, what I said was a joke not a question, you wouldn't get it, you don't have the script for it :D
Sorry if I confused you :D

I noticed that Tom and Batzer jumped to Mythic just now.. and just now is the 1st. Coincidence? I think not.
Yeah that came as a surprise. I was Heroic not more than two days ago due to lack of activity (read= vacation). I guess two days of hardcore posting payed off.

Yeah. I think that on the first of every month, the system judges what kind of activity you have had and ban history/warnings you have received. If it is bad, then you either stay or go down. If it is good, then you go up. Already today I've seen a lot of rank ups, a few demotions, and a lot of new preffix titles...

I wonder how much people got promoted today(or demoted).
I got promoted!

I think Lord Snakie is right. He says that after a ban, it takes 6 months to return to your previous title.

I got banned in February and now it's August.

Spot on old chap.

ooga booga boooh

So far, I think I've been banned around 5-7 times, been here a year, and have had 2 warning, and I just became Heroic today. There must be something wrong with the system.

It might depend on the ban because I've gotten my titles back in less than six months, I believe it took 5 this time around but that's with much less activity than I usually have. One time I didnt even lose the title, well it was gone during the duration of the ban but as soon as the ban was over it was back to normal, in that case Legendary, again.

Pretty much anyone before September '08 that posts alot can get Heroic, warnings/bans or not.

I joined November, so hopefully I will join you Demigods soon ;)

I became a fabled heroic member two minutes before I was banned.

I kept my Fabled part even while I was banned though, which was weird. I thought you become a straight up member when you get banned.

Yeah the prefixes are acting a bit weird. I've been jumping back and forth between heroic and legendary ever since my last ban and it has felt like it's been a reflection of activity. I have however never lost the fabled prefix despite that it's said to be a direct reflection of activity. My conclusion is that the prefixes are less affected by activity than the titles, even the activity related prefixes. It could also be that the prefixes are more affected by long-term activity while titles are based on our month-to-month records.

A lot. As I said above, I was a normal member last night. Today, I am heroic, after 5-7 bans.

Yeah, interesting. Yes, I was banned last week (3-day), and I was active a lot on Sunday when it ended. I then went on a vacation and returned with the "Interpid" prefix. I think we can conclude that after a ban, prefixes come back before new title bars. Also, I am sure that the length of the ban effects how long it takes.

WTF?! I had a Member bar color yesterday, and now I'm Mythic???

Strange system indeed...something's gotta be wrong

Also, if anybody has any solid proof about some criteria for prefixes or a title, create a post with said proof.

The Scientific Process doesn't prove things, it can only disprove them. It would be impossible to prove anything about the Member Title system using observations alone, which is pretty much all we've got. However, I can post a list of all of my observations about the Member Title System that I've previously posted through out this thread over the past year or so.

I've been studying the Member Title System for a very long time now, and in regards to your concern about jumping from "Member" to "Mythic Member" in just a day, here is my belief as to why that happened. I posted that in April and so far there hasn't been any evidence that goes against that theory, however there has been plenty of evidence that supports it.
Posted by: JBSpudster
I too noticed that a lot of member titles changed on the 1st, but there is something different about the majority of the members who had their titles changed....You said you noticed a decent amount of members who jumped straight to "Legendary" and "Mythic" from "Member", right? Well that can only happen if:

1.) They are all long term members who all had a sudden increase of activity after a long period of inactivity.
or
2.) They are all long term members who were banned at one point or another and are finally starting to regain the system's trust.

Scenario #1 seems unlikely to me because the odds of 10+ long term members suddenly becoming very active at the same time are rather small. Scenario #2 seems much more probable to me since the member title system is automated, thus individual member titles are more likely to change along with their "similar" peers if you will.

Like I hinted at the beginning of my post, I noticed that the majority of the member's who had title changes on April first were previously banned users. This may just be a coincidence, or it may mean that banned users regain trust starting on the first of a given month, X amount of months after their ban (depending on the severity of the ban). I am curious to see what happens on May 1st. ^_^

As for the Prefixes, I made a list of what I believed to be the criteria for each Prefix, as of February. So far there hasn't been any dissenting evidence to those theories.
Posted by: JBSpudster
I'm pretty sure that I've figured out the criteria for almost every prefix by just watching people's prefixes change over the past couple of months or so. Here's what I've found:

-1 year without a ban = Honorable
-2 years without a ban = Noble
-3 years without a ban = Exalted
-4 years with a non-recent ban history = Veteran
-5 years with a non-recent ban history = Senior
-6 years with a non-recent ban history = Elder

(I say "non-recent ban history" since it takes awhile for a member to regain a prefix after a ban.)

The Intrepid and Fabled prefixes are a lot harder to determine what it takes to gain them, but I do know that they require a lot of forum activity and are unaffected by a non-recent ban history. My guess is that it takes a certain daily or weekly post quota sustained for a certain period of time, maybe a month or so, to gain the Intrepid prefix. In that case I think that the Fabled prefix would simply be either a larger post quota over the same amount of time, or the same post quota but sustained for a longer period of time, I'm not too sure though.

As for Base Titles, well they're a lot trickier than what most people think they are, and coming up with deciding factors based on observations is very difficult. However, from what I've seen, an individual's Base Title is largely dependant upon 3 factors; Join Date, Posting Activity & Immediate Peers (Ordered by influence from most to least).

A member's Join Date seems to be the largest factor in determining their Base Title, not Posting Activity. The reason for this is that I have observed, on many occasions, very long term members who have only posted a few times anywhere on Bungie.net jumping straight to an evelated title within a day, while there are plenty of very new members who post in the double digits every day and don't have any sort of elevated title. If Posting Activity was the larger factor, then practically every member on the public forums would have an elevated title, since the public forums are basically a display of the currently active members.

The way I see the Base Title System functioning, based off of observations, is that each member has two trust values; a maximum trust value and a true trust value. I believe that a member's Join Date is the deciding factor of their maximum trust value, and with each day that passes that maximum trust value increases by X incremental amount. So, as an example, a 3 year member would have a much larger maximum trust value than say a 1 year member.

Now this is not to be confused with a member's true trust value. I believe that a member's true trust value is derived from their Posting Activity and other speculated factors, such as sign-in frequency. In any case for any individual, the true trust value can never be greater than their specific maximum trust value, it can only be less than or equal to. So, basically a member's maximum trust value is determined by how long they've been a member and staying active is a way of ensuring that their true trust value is equal to their maximum trust value. This would explain as to why a new member will not gain an elevated title, even if they post a thousand times a day, until their maximum trust value allows them to.

Ban observations can also be explained using this system. For instance, when an individual becomes banned their maximum trust value becomes temporarily lowered by X amount (depending upon the ban severity), and so their true trust value is also stuck at the new lowered maximum. X months later, their maximum trust value returns to what it would have been if the individual hadn't received the ban, and so their true trust value also increases to the new heightened maximum once they recover from the ban.

This is all completely speculative, but it's the best answer I have. Sorry if the last 3 paragraphs or so are hard to understand. I had to rush through them, but if any one has any questions about it I'd be happy to answer later. ^_^

What a great write up! That was very informitive, and I think you hit a lot of ideas right on the mark. Well done. I am hoping that it wont take as long for my maximum trust value to go back up, considering the ban I received last week was only a 3-day ban...

Locks don't affect your title. (As far as I know of)

The only thing that effects your titles are bans and warnings.

Thats not true. Its been proven that posting on the forums and being active(even in private groups) effect your member title. If I were to go in active for a few days, I would lose my Mythic status.

Edit:

@ Duardo
Does the fact that when I took a few days away from Bnet my rank went to Legendary prove that sign ins, or Posting effects your rank?

I've been here about 2 and a half years with a little posting, and no bans.
But I've been posting more frequently since I got my Noble Member prefix back in April, so hopefully I'll be surprised with a promotion sometime in the future.

This is all really helpful information, btw.
