I think Intrepid is a cool title...

Anyways, tomorrow is the first. Let's see if there is another "boost"

*crosses fingers for Heroic back*

Yes, I can't wait for the boost!

Boost?

Yes. Trust and other unidentified things. It all accumulates up.

Yes, but it's going to get boosted up on Oct 1?

I doubt that creating topics would influence you title?!
Oh it definitely does. When i was on the border of member and heroic every time i would post a thread my title would shoot up to heroic. I did it multiple times, so it wasn't a coincidence. So long as you don't get banned, warned, or your thread gets locked, you should get a pretty big boost from posting a thread.

That's a pretty bold statement for only being based off of one sample point (you). Not to say that you are wrong or anything, because no one can be 100% sure about anything at this point, but how can you be so certain that your title jumps were solely attributed to creating threads?

Personally, I think that it is less complicated than that. I think that the system counts a created thread and a reply to a thread as the same thing, both for public forum posts and private group posts. This just makes sense to me because it would be a lot less complicated for the Web Team to design, and a lot easier to just link the trust calculator function solely to the "submit button" rather than a string of buttons. That's just my opinion though.

Also just to throw my own personal experience in, I've only created one public forum thread in my entire stay here, and that was over a year ago. I also have a relatively low public forum post count, so according to your theory and based on those two facts, shouldn't I have a lower title than what I actually do?

I'm also interested in this "boost", i've heard talk about it but what would its purpose be?

  • 09.30.2009 7:04 PM PDT

What's up? You can call me Phil. I love to play Battlefield 3!

A boost would be nice. I've been banned for replying to spam but I think I've learned my lesson. It's purpose would probably just be to let people that have been doing good to get their title up.

People keep calling it a boost, but it's really not. It's just that a lot of members seem to recover from bans on the first of every month, jumping and even skipping the lower base titles to the upper ones.

Chances are that if you are not currently under the influence of a ban, you won't recieve the so-called "boost" because there is nothing to recover. At least, that's what I've observed.

"Intrepid"?

What the hell...

:-\

Is that a good or bad thing?

Well, I was enjoying my Noble prefix. I've liked the look and sound of that more than most of the prefixes, and actually tried to keep my posting habits out of the "Intrepid range". I mean, it's apparently a higher-ranking prefix than Noble, but I still liked my previous prefix better.

Same. All intrepid means is that you post a lot. Not a very cool title. How does "Legendary member who posts a lot" sound for a title bar?

The strange thing is that I've actually been pretty busy with life, and haven't posted as much as I used to. Getting an activity prefix after slowing down in my posting doesn't make much sense, I think :-P

Then perhaps the title comes after reaching a certain milestone. Thousand posts, maybe?

I don't think quantity has anything to do with it. I probably have 2000 post, (I don't know for sure since they changed the site a while back and took out being able to see your total amount of post) and I havn't ever had a post related prefix.

A "boost" is a concept talked about commonly in this thread. It's been noticed that on the first of each month, there has been a jump in a ton of ranks over B.Net. Some people go up, some people go down. It all depends on how you acted the last month. Activity, trust rating, bans, etc.

There have only been 2 times where we have been aware of this "boost" when it has actually happened, and it will be interesting to see how it goes tomorrow!

The intrepid legendary title basically means you get all the women. Including Foman's mom, but that's not saying much.

That was really weird...

I lost my title yesterday, and just this morning, gained it back. I suspect the many antics of Stosh were involved.

And Fabled is the bigger, better version of Intrepid. Basically, it just means you're more of a nerd XD

The boost really won't effect you if you recently got a ban. I still think Achronos just pushes a button...

I'm so over all of this.

Keep an eye out on October 1st. That would be roughly 6 months after your last ban, and members seem to recover from bans at the beginning of each month.

I like popping in and seeing peoples theories. I noticed you linked one of yours a few pages back about "true trust ratings" and "maximum trust ratings".

I was thinking, maybe the maximum trust rating is upped every first of the month, along with a certain amount of true trust if the person was active that month, even if they aren't "recovering" from a ban. Of course true trust would still be earned during the month by posting or whatever gets you trust.

Durado, I think you can take the Superintendent off of the "Special Titles" section, the account tied to him has been deleted it seems.

That may very well be. It would be hard to find evidence for though since, if the system does if fact operate off of some sort of variation of the maximum / true trust values, only one's true trust value is shown (via title bar) and one's maximum trust value would remain hidden.

My point is that it's pretty hard to test theories about something that you cannot directly see the effects of (maximum trust value), especially when the effects of something else are masked over it (true trust value). All we can do is make educated guesses based on observations, which is what you did. ^_^
