"There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe."

Is there something else we think is going on?

One thing I've often wondered is how much impact on your title does posting in groups have?

Reason being is that I know there are several members with higher titles that seem to never post on the main forums,or if they do it's rare.

I know a couple mythics who haven't posted since like October. They just hang around in a private group I'm in.

I think activity on Bungie.net is more important than posting.

You also have to take in consideration the age of the account, if its an old account then they don't really have to post much, they can keep their title by doing very little.

I have noticed this as well. If you where to log in every day, visit a private chapter from time to time, and maybe once in a while post in the public forums, you could still keep your title if you have been here long enough.

To let you guys think about this even more, I had taken a long break in mid-2006 and only came "back" sometime in November. During that time, I'd visit Bungie.net maybe once every 2-3 months, just to keep my account active (and post once or twice). Also during that time, the whole member title thing came to be. So, when I got back, I already had the title I currently have without even having more than 20 posts over a 3 year period.

I guess I just built up a ton of "trust points" prior to me taking my hiatus, and they obviously don't "expire".

I know I had a point to this post, but I really can't figure it out anymore.

I'm surprised to see that so many people are posting about this topic. Title increases appear to follow account length, posting, and not getting banned.

Is there something else we think is going on?
Actually, post length doesn't really play a factor. The main factor on how to get a better prefix is how on-topic and helpful the post is.

Someone could have a 1 sentence post with very helpful advice while another could have like 8000 characters the post is just spam.

Seeing as the system is automatic, I don't really see how it could distinguish a 'good' post from a 'bad' post. I also don't see why they would design a system that is based on how many characters someones posts have. Like you said, someones 6 word post could be 10x more helpful than someones 6000 word post.
Like Swayzinator said, I am not too sure how the system would differentiate a bad post from a good one, since that's rather subjective if it's judging solely on word content. However, Achronos has stated in the past that "Saying the trust number only takes into account quantity and no quality metrics is not accurate."

So there is most likely some sort of quality metric being measured from our posts, and if I had to guess I would say that it is somewhere along the lines of average character amount per post. That's completely speculative though.

Perhaps it runs a light spell check over your posts. A generalizing sign of maturity in a forum atmosphere is having good grammar, punctuation, and spellin as opposed to 1337 speek or whatever.

I'm a pretty average herioc member, middle 2008? The only reason I didn't go up higher is cause of bans, but I also never go down, so I'm guessing I'm not to young of an account.

Although I do post around 10-15 times a day.

It probably does, now that I think of it. I talk like what I said above constantly, but I'm a Legendary Member, so it probably has a very little effect, if any.

When enlightenment is the question. The Answer is Pain.
When Ignorance is the problem. The Answer is Blood.
When love is absent. Hatred fills the void.

Yeah that doesn't sound like it would have much of an effect....at least not if that sort of talk isn't used too often...

And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.

Thank you for this information!

I who walk alone in this world wrapped in the arms of the past not knowing what lies ahead of me. What am I? A soulless being to be beaten by the rage of those who hate me? Cutting my way past hopes and dreams. Sit in the window sill as I do every day and night resignations on my slate of who I am and what is left behind. Concealed in the words that chases my every thought. I who walk alone in this world…I am broken

This has to stay open. If this was locked there would be people posting threads theorizing about
the title system and eventually there would be a relapse in threads questioning the title system.
Its safer and keep the forums clean with this thread open.

Report and move on.
People may need some questions to be answered, or to theorize on the system so I think its better off being open.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it has no effect. Without actually reading a post to quantify the quality of it, I can't think of another viable method to indicate the relative maturity of a poster. It must be a pretty low weighted factor, as Achronos seemed to indicate, because while there is some correlation between good grammar and spelling, its most certainly not always the case. I see many people who I consider to be trolls speak very well in the forums.

I rarely ever log out, save for when my browser or computer needs to reboot for an update. I leave firefox and several tabs open around the clock. I tend to think that time logged in might be more of a factor than how many times you logged in. Though I could be wrong.

I log on about eight or nine times a day.

I doubt it has any effect. I've seen Legendary and Mythic members with atrocious spelling/grammar.

Also, keep in mind that English is not a first language for some of the high-titled members here (like Verachi). Restricting titles based on a spellcheck would make it very hard for those users to rank up.

On another note, there's one other thing I've always wondered. I know that there can only be 200 Mythic Members, regardless of how high their trust levels may be. Are there similar caps to Legendary and Heroic Members?

I was under the impression that they had gotten rid of the population cap. No?

Oh and I've heard that good looking members are getting "higher" titles. This might actually be true because I was told, by a quite reliable source, that the Mythic Members chapter also acts as a model agency.

Not active enough, I'd say. Aside from today's and yesterday's posts, your last post was July 19th, 2009.

You must have been given a warning or ban sometime in the last year, since you should at least be an Honorable member by now.

Titles also depend on how long you've actually been active. I joined the site right about at the time that you did, and I've seen plenty of Legendary and Mythic members who have been a member for less time than you have, so they've obviously been more active.
