OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

I think Lord Snakie or someone had a theory that it was based on how much you post. I usually get all giddy when I see my title bar turn a dark blue and I just want to post as much as possible. But maybe the system thinks I'm trying to spam so it deranks me.
Nah. I don't think it is. Earlier on, some Ninjas and users said that it doesn't matter how long the post, just how in-depth it is.

Does anyone even read these?

An automatic system can't possible tell the difference between the two. Just sayin'...

Carpe Diem - Carpe Coffee

Astronomy Picture of the Day!

I just feel like I need to get this out in the open, seeing as this use to be one of my favorite threads due to it being more on the scientific side.

There are a lot of assumptions in this thread, some even outside of this thread, and too many "matter of fact" statements that aren't backed up by any sort of evidence. I don't mean to sound like an ass, but if there's an aspect of the Title System that hasn't been explained or confirmed by the Web Team, then there will always be an unavoidable uncertainty factor with that aspect.

Also, I understand that this thread has become more of a quick-stop Q&A station about the Title System, and there's nothing wrong with that, but this discussion isn't going to go anywhere if people don't take the time to listen to one another. I see a lot of talking in this thread, but not a whole lot of discussion.

I believe that this is mainly caused by people who impulsively post short irrelevant comments, such as "Yay I got X title today! Oh no I lost it again!", along with a slough repeat and/or vague questions. Not to discourage asking questions, as asking questions should never be discouraged, but the vast majority of the questions being asked could be answered within 10 minutes if the reader just did a little searching on their own. The short comments however do nothing for the thread except for derail current discussions.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that people should be a lot more weary about what they post, and that we all need to take a little bit more time to listen to one another, for the sake of this thread's ability to help answer questions.

No clue. Be kinda cool to know, but I guess we can assume two years.

I still wonder, even before I got banned, I should have been a Heroic Member. Plus there's nothing about if banned, that's taken away. I've been on the site for quite awhile, yet, I've never had a single promotion. Why?

It can, to a certain extent, just by the length of the post. Number of characters.

That would make sense, no?
It obviously can't tell quality exactly, but I think a longer post is usually a more thought-out post.

Yeah, I agree with this.
This thread is a LOT more fun when its all about theories and not-so-scientific science.
Trying to figure it all out.
Explanations.
Etc.

When enlightenment is the question. The Answer is Pain.
When Ignorance is the problem. The Answer is Blood.
When love is absent. Hatred fills the void.

It is a lot more fun but these theories can only really happen when the ideas strike them all other times I wouldn't imagine it to be filled with anything other than whats going on now.

(btw thanks JB for putting that link in, I never would have seen it otherwise)

I should have been a Heroic Member. Plus there's nothing about if banned, that's taken away. I've been on the site for quite awhile I don't know if its just me but Im finding it difficult to understand what (exactly) you are saying, I don't know how to help you.

All I can really say is create more topics and do more long posts. Seems to work.

Have we concluded that Group Posting goes toward a title bar promotion?

I wouldn't know. I rarely post in my only group. I wish I could find one that talked about school life and stuff like that.

Anyways, I'm offtopic, here's what I'm trying to say.

I didn't know that, thanks. But I got to find a group that has a similar interest to my own.

Can't be too careful with your company. I can feel the devil walking next to me.

Even with a 3 day ban and a warning in the same week, I retained the Honorable prefix. This means that it isn't based off of the last ban or it is something like this.

0 bans in 365 days means an upgrade to the ban related prefix.
So after 2 years without any bans, a user would get Noble. Then they get a ban, so they go down to Honorable. Then 365 days from the end of the ban, the user returns to Noble.

Also, I'd like to point out that after the warning, I only lost the Heroic title, and not the Noble. Thus, I believe that warnings are just a minor trust point loss, not affecting ban-related prefixes.

Say what you want on these hypothesis.

Very interesting. Maybe now we can infer that certain lengths of warnings/bans might have a "prefix time" penalty. A warning might be worth 3 months, a 3 day ban worth 6 months, etc.

I don't think that warnings have any effect on ban-related prefixes. Using myself as the only evidence, so I'm about to tell my title history after the prefix system was implemented.

11/13/08(Day the prefixes were implemented): Previously I had Heroic. I gained the Honorable prefix, even though I hadn't been there for a year. I had also received a warning the day before.
12/08/09: I move up to Honorable Heroic Member.
1/15/10: I change to Noble Heroic, which is one day before the b-day birthday. That reinforces my hypothesis that it is based on days, not years.
1/30/10: I receive a warning, and a result I lose the Heroic title.
2/6/10: I receive a 3 day ban, and lose all titles and prefixes for 3 days.
2/9/10: I recover from the ban. I still have Honorable, which is a ban-related prefix, after a ban.
Sorry if that is a bit bloggish, but using that data could help us figure out the system.

Its already been covered (I think) that prefixes work separately of the trust point system. So if you receive a warning or a ban your prefix won't be altered by it, just your base title.

Might I suggest looking at the link posted by JBSpudster to further acquaint yourselves with what has been discussed.

:| That's why I was hypothesizing. It hasn't been shown exactly how the ban-related prefixes work, and based off of ExquisiteDragon and myself, changes could occur on how these prefixes work. What is in the OP suggests that a ban/warning sets you back to step 1. What I have provided suggests that warnings do nothing on the ban prefixes, and that a ban sets you back one priority level, in the sense of ban related prefixes.

I know, I was just pointing it out, thinking it would be quite useful. Its helped me understand things better.

But yeah I agree with you, getting warned or banned doesn't alter your prefix but it may have an effect in that it could reduce the priority level of the prefix. I think it was also suggested that if one prefix has a higher priority than another that one then replaces the lesser prefix. ?

I know this it off topic but this thread has explained so much to me! I recently got a title and was looking around for an explanation and finally found this thread. On the fact that Group Posting raises your title, I don't believe it does. I was a part of a group about a year ago in which I was the top poster and had to have made hundreds of "Acceptable" posts which brought me to the highest rank a member in the group could achieve. Yet, my Title on the main website did not change until quite recently. I guess it may work in some cases and not in others, I am as sure as the rest of you on that though.

Why does the system hate me? I have been active(logging on every day and posting) for a while now and nothing... I was not very active before but still a bit. Another thing is that I have never been banned or warned. This is going on my seventh month on b.net.
