I too noticed that a lot of member titles changed on the 1st, but there is something different about the majority of the members who had their titles changed. From my previous observations the titles changed roughly on a weekly basis, usually on the weekends from personal experience. This led me to believe that even if trust is calculated on a daily basis, it may only be applied to a member's title on a weekly basis, however this is all just speculative.
You said you noticed a decent amount of members who jumped straight to "Legendary" and "Mythic" from "Member", right? Well that can only happen if:
1.) They are all long term members who all had a sudden increase of activity after a long period of inactivity.
or
2.) They are all long term members who were banned at one point or another and are finally starting to regain the system's trust. My theory, some mentioned by others,
A few days ago (6-1-10) I noticed that over fifty of my friends where ranked up, a few of them posted in this forum, About there rank up. From JBSpudster theory above I gave a example of members being promoted on the first of the month, So with that theory a little bit more trust worthy we can put a few more peaces to the puzzle together for members log in time.
Over the last past 1-2 months I have been testing a log in time theory. I wanted to see if members could get ranked up faster by logging in around the same time each day and getting off around the same time each day. My account has been a member of Bungie.net for about four years and 7 months, I am only Heroic because I was not active on this account. Before getting my Exalted Heroic member I was a Exalted member, I tried to see if I signed in and posted around fifteen post a day, if I would get ranked up faster. Every day I woke up at 3:30 A.M and posted in the early morning, then I tried to get on in school and I posted around mid afternoon, then when I got home I posted in the early and late evening, and finally I got off around 8:00 to 9:00 P.m.
My results from this test is that this Might effect how many Trust Points you get in a day. I was promoted to a Exalted Heroic Member and I think (I will clarify when) I am nearing my Mythic title. I think the ranking system holds these date logs and gives you either less or more Trust points. Lets say a normal member who signs on about 4 days a week at random times, gets about 4 Trust points a day. Then another member comes along and signs on about 7 days a week, and logs on around the same time each day, that member could get 5-7 Trust points a day. (Just a Example and end of that Theory)
I also noticed from other post and my account that old members get promoted faster then normal members. When I was not active on this account and barley signed on I was losing trust points and ranks, then when I started using this account more I was put back to my original rank Heroic member. I think that when you are an old member and either don't stay active or get banned some how, that you are subject to your old title or your year title when you get back. (year title: By that I mean the rank that matches up to how many years you have been on Bungie.net, whether that be mythic or legendary.) Then when you are back and posting, I think you gain trust points way faster then before to get you back up to your original rank.
