but could a system detect post quality?

It is definitely a theory, that the more you post in your post, your trust rating grows just a little bit. So if you have some big theory in this thread or the Reach forums, or need quite a few paragraphs to get across your answer instead of "inb4lock" or something, your trust rating should go up.

However, this is just a theory, but it seems plausible. We should start running experiments with other accounts to test some of these theories.

Hard is good.

I would certainly like to run tests on how private group activity affects trust rating.

If 10 huge (1000+) private group administrators banded together and used an old account which is a member, then gave it a lot of power in each group, it would then be interesting to see how the account would fare

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

You mean avatars? If so, then yes. They can request their own special avatar.

So even with numerous bans, I can still rank up to like Veteran over time?

You don't kick a man when they're down, so don't teabag me when I'm dead!

This thread is a lot more informative than it was the last time I looked at it, but I still have one problem:
What does "active" mean? How active do you need to be? >1 post a day on average? A post a week? Visit the site once a day? Visit the forums once a day?

Technically speaking, you are active if you are not absent. You become absent by not posting for 2 months.

But to be regularly active for just a typical member, you are probably looking at 10 posts per day. More active members like myself are at about 30 ppd. Some people get crazy and go up to 50, but they are usually spamming within useless replies.

Also, it has been theorized, and pretty well proven, that activity comes from things other than posting. Just logging in and navigating the site might contribute the slightest bit to your trust rating.

Hmm, I could have sworn it only took 1 month for you to become absent. Thanks for the correction.

so I was banned twice this past year and still got my honorable a week-ish ago. Do you think this will affect my heroic that I should get soonish?

It will most certainly affect your base title. You should know, in case you don't already, that the times for achieving each base title listed in the OP are rough estimates of how long it would generally take a well behaved member to achieve those titles. Very few people probably actually get base title that quickly. Base titles depend on your trust. No one but the web team knows how the trust system works, but you can get a good idea if you read all of the links in the OP.

Just be active, follow the rules, post with intelligence and maturity, and you will eventually get the Heroic title. The length of the ban will vary the amount of time it will take for your trust rating to recover from the ban. I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here and say 3 months, assuming you exhibit the traits of an ideal member.

They were both 3 day bans and Ive been active since around Feb.

The bans will probably effect 1-3 months individually.

ALRIGHT! I'd like to give a little status report on this account, see if anyone can predict when I could expect a new Prefix/Title, and how long it will take to regain my trust rating.

This account is today 1 year old. Since it's creation, it hasn't seen much activity. From a few log-ins once every few weeks to a post in a private group here and there, this account was not active for a while. The first main forum post on this account was at the beginning of June, and it truly became active last week. Through this time I had received 2-3 bans on my old account (xo u2 rokker), which transferred into 3-48 hour linked account bans.

On this day, nothing happened to change my title. This is most likely due to the inactivity/lack of sign ins, as well as the three bans. When I could expect a title of some sort? No clue.

Some people get promoted on the first of the month. Just throwing that our there.

Yes indeed. I remember sort of co-developing that theory a long time ago. The "monthly boost" theory. I will definitely be looking into that as I keep up my activity over the month, and it would have been my 2nd month after the most recent ban.

  • 07.19.2010 6:28 PM PDT

A month how does that work?

If anything, you will only obtain a prefix due to the lack of inactivity. If you do achieve Heroic sometime from now until about 1-2 months later I'll be surprised.
