This thread has really gone down the tubes. It was a great thread early on, with speculations and theories as to how and why.
If you have not done so, I highly suggest you read the information in the beginning of this thread. There was a lot of info posted early on which will answer most of the basic questions everyone has. Well you wonder why users still ask questions in this thread, most likely they only read the requirements for titles/prefixes. Then they get confused and ask a question. (I would rather have them ask a question in this thread, than in the community forum)Questions are fine, just the "hoping" and "praying" for new titles is getting silly.I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way, but in a way Halo biggest fan is right. Yes, there is a plethora of information in the OP of this thread, but the problem is that few care to read it.
It's not that the information is not accessible enough. I, along with a few other people, set out to find as many official posts on the title system and compile them into a library of sorts about a year ago. There is also a multitude of well thought out theories that do a pretty good job at explaining certain aspects of the system, considering how little exact information there is to go off of. That library and those theories are both in the OP, and they have the capability of answering probably 90% of the legitimate questions asked in this thread.
The problem is that most of the questions asked here, by far, are illegitimate and unanswerable by the "general public". There is only a handful of people who have the ability to answer these questions, and they have made it very clear that they will not do so.
The fact that people still ask questions like, "When will I get X title?" or post poorly founded answers such as, "You need to boost your PPD in order to get Y title", is totally beyond me. I would consider both of those spam, and possibly even misinformation, but one of the problems with this thread is that it's such a large gray area that it is most likely very difficult to moderate with consistency.
This thread's purpose has changed from being a hub to discuss theories and observations, to being the designated toilet designed to prevent the same old crap questions from spilling over into other threads. It pains me to say that, for the most part, it's doing its new job pretty well.
I agree to an extent. Yes it can and does get annoying to see this thread once an important thread that once had such good use turned the other direction.
As you were saying, it is people and their laziness that lack ways of searching for information like back in the good ol' days.
I remember after joining Bungie.net this what one of the first threads I check out in the Bungie Forums due to I was curious about the whole system. After a good 10-20 minutes of some good reading of the OP and all of the Links to posts attatched, I had a good basic understanding of the title system.
And I am the kind of person that searches for their information before asking another for help. It is one of my mroals as a person just to help myself and do what I can myself. Many of these members that post in this thread asking questions as JB said are, in the most respectful way "lazy". I checked this thread out a few weeks after I joined Bungie.net and had gotten used to things. Some of these members, are long time members of the community who haven't discovered that doing a bit of reaidng maybe help to their advantage.
It even isn't just Bungie.net. It happens in life now way to much. Take school for example, I hear my classmates call out to teacher saying, "I dun know how to do this". Well instead if asking, they should do something and stop be a lazy peice of ___ and look back at the information given to you. Do some research and you may learn a thing or two.
Now, what I am overall getting at here in my rambling is that some people now a days do not have the courtisy to look for info themselves but depend on people like us who did our research and did soemthing to fidn our info. And then we see post like, "When will I get X or Y title as JB said".
Pretty much, it is people and societies ways of doing things which differ from what should really happen. We vcannot change societies ways but we can enforce the right ways by putting punishments on those who ask without even reading this thread.
